Speaking of where there should be gas stations….i feel like there needs to be something near the airport. Returning a rental car last weekend and I found it interesting there isn’t a decent gas station easily accessible to the rental car return.

That may be by design, the car rental companies would hate to lose that "additional charge" fee for filling up the tank on site.

However, my pick is the OnCue on S May and I-240, and then just taking SW 59th back to Meridian. Spits you out right at the rental car facility and very little traffic.

OnCue could easily build another on the east side of Classen somewhere around 30th.

That 7 Eleven at 31st stays very busy even though it is complete crap.

This would fill in a long empty spot. I wonder if 7-11 might even decide to go over there and build a bigger/newer location and close the old one?

Yeah SW/C of 31st and Classen or NE/C of 33rd and Classen would be good spots.

So I'm glad to see this is moving right along.
Any idea if they will plan to remove those awful-to-look-at medians on May in front of this area to allow for both directions of traffice to access this OnCue? They're crumbling, they let weeds reach human height in the summer, and just all in all look very very bad.
I would assume so, but I'm not certain if those are city owned and it'd have to be done by the city?

SEMIweather

I would hope that they keep the medians, both sides of traffic will be able to easily access this OnCue from United Founders Boulevard but allowing traffic to turn left into and out of this location directly to/from May is just asking for a traffic nightmare with how busy that stretch of road gets.

The site plan above shows a left turn bay on May for Oncue.

This looks misleading, the arrows are all the same plot darkness. They don't show a new curb cut on the existing curb median on May; they also have right only for the south bound drives onto May.

The medians along United Founders appear to be left as existing per this site plan.

... They don't show a new curb cut on the existing curb median on May...

It probably is too close to the May/NW Expressway interchange for that median change getting approved, so if their customers want to go north on May would have to go via the light at United Founders Boulevard.

It's hard to tell from the posted site plan but after downloading the drawings and viewing the plan at full size, the arrows on May are slightly lighter than the arrows on the OnCue property. Existing median on May is to remain.

I can't tell by the plans, but are they planning a retaining wall on the west side of the property? They seem to be digging that way.

Yes, there is a good slope from west to east, so the plans show a retaining wall along the western border and then about halfway down both 13th and 12th.

That's more in my neck of the woods, so I was at least aware of that one! Something as big as an OnCue, one would think I would notice that. But I rarely ever get that far south on May in my normal daily activities. Once the OnCue is finished, I'm certain I will frequent it, though.

Still haven't been in Fuzzy's yet, but my girls loved going to Freddy's, so that was very much on my radar when it changed hands.

For some reason they just refiled their building permit application for NW 13th & Western.

Looks like they are gearing up to finally start. I suspect the delay has been due to coordination with the City regarding reworking that intersection.

It looks like they submitted old plans for the road changes. The timing diagrams didn't reflect any of the new lane modifications that Classen has undergone. Also, the Traffic Management has issue with the timing plans. Namely, wondering why split-phasing the 13th-Western directions (only 13th has green lights, then only Western has greenlights) when right now, those directions are Concurrent.

And that little sliver of sidewalk that goes into the OnCue property on the southeast corner doesn't meet ADA requirements since the "improvement" should be in either the right of way or a dedicated easement.

That always seemed a bit of an odd location for a fast casual restaurant. Nearer NW Expressway, Britton, or I-44 would have had an easier time drawing a wider customer base. As it practically was as far as could get away from a freeway interchange as they could get on May.

There’s a pretty large population surrounding it and May has a big traffic count. I think the location suffers more from being set back and not very visible.

I've been curious about the same thing. I live in Mayfair and although I've been surprisingly happy with how Domino gas station turned out, It'll be nice to have another one near by that isn't across I44.
(although I'm already dreading the traffic cluster it might cause for people trying to turn Left into the new OnCue while heading North on May)

I think there's a median there so left turns can't be made from northbound May, they'll have to turn left at United Founders Blvd to get in. Whoever wants to do that should probably have just stopped at the Domino on 50th. :D

Oh I totally agree. And even that turn lane "storage length" and "bay taper" (thank you Google), can't be more that 3-5 cars right there. Most drivers won't care that their a** end is hanging out into the road from that turn lane.

Near my house, there's an HTeaO and an OnCue across the street from one another, and the HTeaO happy hour causes a traffic nightmare at the corner. The OnCue doesn't seem to cause nearly as much snarl as the McDonald's and HTeaO.

This is the 'travel stop' concept similar to the one on I-44 where there is a second detached canopy for the diesel lanes. They built that canopy first. The main canopy is going up now.

Yeah, unfortunately I see that happen every time I'm out, and can't really blame the driver, but I personally hate to have any effect on anybody else while I'm driving, so I try not to do that unless it's absolutely necessary. I also almost never turn left out of someplace onto May at any point, fool's errand most of the time, usually quicker to just turn right, turn left into someplace, and then turn right back out again. We might just have to take back ways up to Sprouts on our regular Sat shopping trips (we already do sometimes from right past there, turning on 57th), since it's usually a cluster from there on north to past 63rd.

And it's not going to be a quick fix. A few articles I read have it becoming a diamond interchange.

Other proposed improvements include:

reconstruction of the on- and off-ramps;
new traffic signals for a new intersection at the crossover traffic point;
building a 10-foot trail along the center of the bridge; and
adding ADA-compliant sidewalks, bridge rails and traffic parapet barriers.

Does May Avenue see higher traffic counts than any other road along NW Expressway? I always wondered why this is the only non-interstate related bridge.

I would like to see a SPUI or a diverging diamond if there going to build another bridge.

Sounds very nice, hopefully it won't get value-engineered down to what it is today and they just literally replace the bridge itself. Glad we have Villa and Penn as alternate routes and don't really live right near it (we're at 36th/May).

I think most (if not all) the other streets from Rockwell over to Penn are pretty much residential leading for a long while up to and after NW Expwy, but May is not residential before and after between 50th and Wilshire, so yeah, it probably does have higher traffic counts. No idea what the situation was when it was originally built and why, though.

I believe that May was a state highway but was long ago decommissioned and returned to the City as a street -- same with NW Expressway.

It's pretty crazy how busy May is, especially north of NW 36th all the way to Memorial. The traffic often backs up even past the Sam's gas station; I have to make sure not to go to Sam's between like 3 and 6 because it's so incredibly hard to get in and out.

Having lived at 67th/May when I was a kid (4-5 decades ago), we rode our bikes all over the area and walked all over, so it's really nice to be able to know how to get places by back roads. Confuses the hell out of my wife, though, when she's driving and I tell her how to get somewhere by using them - "turn left at the 2nd street, now curve around and then turn right in 1 block, then turn left again immediately, ...." and then she finally says "Oh, yeah, I know where I am". :D

They installed them at Hefner and May and I absolutely love them. My ex-wife hates them. I'm so happy I don't have to wait behind people buying/cashing lottery tickets, deciding which cigarettes they want, etc. when all I get is a fountain drink. Feels like convenience stores should have been way ahead in the self-checkout game, seeing how handy it is to have it now.

Highway 3 used to turn south onto May and then east on SW 29th to McLoud - and, NW Expressway from LHP to I-44 used to be Highway 3A until 2009.

As far as I know, they have yet to file for building permits at that location. They have a bunch of other stores under construction, so I'd guess that site will be at least a year out.
