I don't understand why there would be community opposition. there isn't even a neighborhood back there. just those random apartments that front 15th

What apartments? Are you talking about Bridges at Spring Creeks or somewhere else? I'm trying to picture apartments there, but I may need to drive by.

I do know there are plenty of neighborhoods around there. I also know you have the effect it will have on Hafer Park, and the shifting designs, changes, and slipper slope this project has been on to blame for much of the resistance.

Ok, I think I see those apartments, looking at Google maps. Didn't even realize there were any there.

well maybe they are condos. Called Turtlecreek Commons. if you were just driving by you could easily miss them.

my comment about the neighborhoods was more in line of the fox lake residents literally having a walmart lot backed up to their yards. this would back up to Hafer Park on the south side of the creek.

has to be something going on behind the scenes

Or, they just can't get past the community opposition.

Seems like Reasor's was in pretty early on in this process, the issue has always been re-zoning and the site plan.

At an ICSC event in Tulsa last year the Reasors President was non-committal about coming to the OKC/Edmond market. I know there is some public opposition but Sooner probably cant proceed further until they have that grocery anchor. Once they have that, then we will most likely see the battle with the public.

Also, Whole Foods was once rumored as a possible candidate but Ive now heard thats off. Sounds like WF is sticking with just one store in OKC for now.

I can't say that I'm sad to see this development in limbo. Hafer Park is really nice, and the last thing that I want to see when I go for a walk in the park is a big box shopping center. Wooded areas around here are at a premium, so why is there the need to build right there when there are plenty of pastures to build on elsewhere? I'd rather the city buy the land and expand the park trail system onto it. I have to be honest--I don't think Reasor's is all that special anyway.

I can't say that I'm sad to see this development in limbo. I am. Any infill and more tax dollars as well as more options for shopping is never a bad thing.

Hafer Park is really nice, and the last thing that I want to see when I go for a walk in the park is a big box shopping center.Hafer Park is nice, but there is no reason it won't still be nice with a big box right next to it. Plenty of super awesome parks in Dallas(parks that are 100x what is Hafer is) and you don't even know there is a shopping center right by it.

Wooded areas around here are at a premium, so why is there the need to build right there when there are plenty of pastures to build on elsewhere?Wooded areas are no premium in Edmond and aren't really that special anyways. What other ''treasures'' were you thinking.

I disagree. This would be a great spot for a couple of high-end retailers(big box whiter spin you want to put on it) and a Reasors would be nice. Reasors is no better than Crest Fresh Market or nice Homelands.

Those are townhouses not apartments. People in the are just don't want the land to be developed.

Edmond is not hurting for tax revenue--if they can drop $90k on public art right now, then the coffers are not empty. I'm not anti-development--but just like the Stage Center development, I think there are much better options out there. I go to a park for peace and quiet, not for a close-up view of yet another shopping center. There are many lots on the north and west sides of town that won't require clear-cutting forest land, and there are also plenty of vacant shopping centers west of Broadway that would probably flourish if Reasor's went in.

They won't have to cut down anything. The site is already cleared and just waiting on something to be built on it. As I said before, the store can be hidden with landscaping.

I agree. I don't understand why the concept of seamlessly integrating development with the natural landscape is so foreign in OKC. Other cities don't seem to have an issue with this.
