Many of our younger posters probably don't have a clue about Gore Vidal. He has sort of faded into the background as he aged. During his prime he was known as a brilliant and controversial commentator in both his published works and public appearances. There was nothing better than Gore Vidal vs. William Buckley.

34 considered too young? Cause I've heard the name, but I don't have a clue who he was.

Not to be confused with Vidal Sassoon.

That's very amusing, Matt, but it really says nothing at all about Vidal. This is more about my earlier point.

Interestingly enough, Gore Vidal's namesake is Oklahoma's US Senator Thomas Gore who is buried at Fairlawn Cemetery in Oklahoma City.

Sen. Gore was Vidal's maternal grandfather with whom he lived for a period of time. Here is a hilarious clip of him on the Dick Cavett show engaging Norman Mailer. Good stuff.

I'm reading Burr at the moment. A very good read.
