My friend Molly Rushing is playing Princess Maria! I'm so stoked to see her in her first lead role out of school. She'll go on to do well in New York, so pay attention to her :-)

Your friend was fantastic in her role and has a beautiful voice. The whole musical was a lot of fun. It is obviously a little dated in some ways but a very talented cast really brought it to life. We enjoyed it immensely.

I thought Molly did really well for her first paid role, as did most of the cast! It was a treat to see Beth Leavel really take the stage by storm.

That being said, I didn't really care for the show. Good performances of Good music (and good dancing)...but thought the plot was incredibly mundane. I left wondering how that script made it to broadway. I'm a pretty big fan of everything I've heard of Berlin's but admittedly it has usually been in a one song setting. If this show is representative of most of the work he's done, I would be disappointed.

I'll have to do the research on Perle Mesta...I've never really heard about her, and thought that was an interesting link to the show for us Oklahomans.

Perle Mesta was born Perle Skirvin. Think Skirvin Hotel.

As for the play, I'm sort of reminded of "Li'l Abner". It's fun but is basically a relic of it's time. Remember that many musicals of that era didn't worry that much about plot and dialogue.
