I hope everyone is having a great summer. Retro Metro OKC resumes its monthly meeting schedule with gathering next Monday, July 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the atrium room at Coit's Drive-In, NW 50 and Portland. The restaurant's co-founder, Jesse Coit, will be sharing photos and a history of the restaurants she and her late husband Don started more than 50 years ago. Folks, Coit's was put up for sale a few months ago, and one of the three restaurants, the one frequented by Capitol Hill old-timers in the southside, recently closed. This is essentially a chance to catch a glimpse and enjoy what may be the last remnant of another era when there were no McDonald's, Burger Kings or Wendys, but instead locally beloved restaurants like The Spot, Spartan Drive-In and Shipman's. Please try to join us Monday if you can, and feel free to buy a Coit's root beer, hot dog or hamburger to enjoy while we hear from Jesse Coit and get a first glimpse of photos that will soon be added to our website. The meeting is free and open to the public.

fantastic. At age 90 Jesse Coit is still sharp as a tack. Room was packed - about 30 or more showed up. We took a video of it.

great to hear...on a sad note, noticed that another Oklahoma landmark is closing this Friday. Ballard's Drive-in in Pauls Valley, the guy is finally retiring at 91...they already have the auction set up and it is going to become a tractor supply place or something like that. :-(

We went to Ballard's one last time on Tuesday. The peanut butter shake was decadent as ever. It will be missed.
