View Full Version : Drones in Oklahoma
ljbab728 06-29-2012, 12:29 AM The is a very interesting project and a great example of using technology developed for the military for civilian purposes. I can't wait to see the first drone flying overhead.

kevinpate 06-29-2012, 09:21 AM Opened the thread thinking it might be about the legislature now that primary season is over. Oh well.

If used for disasters/search and rescue, I'd rather not see one!
Dubya61 06-29-2012, 12:41 PM This is a great win for Oklahoma. The current federal administration has the goal to designate six areas for drone use / experimentation / development. If I read this right, either Oklahoma has won one of the spots (but why did the article mention seven?) or has taken one step closer to winning one of the six spots. Further diversification of Oklahoma's economy down this high-tech road will help this state.
Questor 06-29-2012, 08:50 PM Unfortunately I don't have a link handy, but I believe I also read about a year ago that a UAV corridor was being proposed in the Stillwater area. Although that one was much more academic-focused.

That's good news for terrorists.
PennyQuilts 06-30-2012, 06:21 PM Ugh.
Sorry - if I saw someone shoot it down I would whisper a quiet thank you.

BBatesokc 07-01-2012, 06:25 PM Excellent. Kinda surprised its taken so long to put these into practical non-military use.
ljbab728 07-02-2012, 12:12 AM An update.

Bunty 07-02-2012, 01:20 AM I hope drones are technologically advanced so as not to fly out of control and crash into a home, car, or whatever. The bigger they are the more damage they could cause.
ljbab728 07-02-2012, 01:24 AM I'm not worried. I have drone insurance. LOL
ljbab728 10-19-2015, 11:46 PM This seems to be a sensible approach to me.

What I didn't read is at what point the registration is to take place... Are sellers required to register the drone at point of purchase? Will software be used to prevent drones from taking off unless registered? Is the buyer simply going to be trusted to register the drone?
I don't have a problem with registration. I just think things that look good on paper need to also be realistic.
