View Full Version : Skip Bayless - does anyone here actually like him?
We're always so proud of our native celebrities here and we're all quick to point out that Mr. or Mrs. So-and-so is an Okie, but does anyone actually claim Skip Bayless as one of ours? His brother's cool as hell, but I cringe anytime I hear Skip talk about how he was born and raised here. You're not doing us any favors, Skip.
What say you?

What say you? Remember that just because one was born an OKIE does not mean they are proud of their state. I was born in OKC and raised here, however OKLA is very average to me and not the most exciting place. Thousands of OKIES have left for "much greener pastures" without ever looking back. Granted, there has been OKIES moving back from other places. Once you leave the state, one realizes that their is much more to life than being from Oklahoma and one begins to see just how much Oklahoma needs to work on becoming a better state.

So I'm gonna go ahead and mark you down as a yep.
kevinpate 06-25-2012, 12:38 PM Sorry. Had to google him to know who you were asking about. That seemed 1-3 levels below the meh option so I dinna vote.
Bellaboo 06-25-2012, 12:38 PM Not really, Mark Cuban ripped him a good one the other day....... just another ESPN talking head.

Sweet. Thanks for posting.
MikeLucky 06-25-2012, 12:41 PM I bet his brother likes him... I think he posts here, actually. lol. Used to anyway.
EDIT: after a quick search it appears that his brother hasn't visited the forum since June of 2010... so he probably won't chime in. lol
onthestrip 06-25-2012, 12:52 PM Skip is just another blow hard that picks a stance on a subject (usually something ridiculous) and just shouts on and on anout it. Not sure how Stephen A Smith can put up with him on a daily basis.
adaniel 06-25-2012, 12:55 PM I actually didn't know who Skip Bayless was until the Lost Ogle reported on his exaggerated "accomplishments" at NW Classen. I then tried to watch him. I could stand about 10 minutes of his show. He represents sports reporting of the lowest common denominator and all that is wrong with journalism today, in a nice, annoying package. His ripping of the Thunder, specifically Russell Westbrook, has probably cost him the few fans he had in this area. I think I caught a blurb about him in the Oklahoman and he mentioned he may move back here one day.

Not entirely sure what this has to do with Skip Bayless, but as long as you're happy, I guess.

Average......??? It is what you make of it. I have been to about 8 major cities in Europe and Western Asia in the last 3 years, and it feels good to come back home. Pros and cons everywhere, If you want exciting, you need to go to Rome, Barcelona or St Petersburg Russia.....
Maybe your exciting is a little different than anothers.
ou48A 06-25-2012, 01:23 PM Skip Bayless craves the attention. He has been nuts since his Dallas day’s.
Skips dear friend Craig Humphreys of The Sports Animal is who feeds Skip information about OU, OSU, OKC & Oklahoma.
I don't like him. I don't like any of the talking heads at ESPN except Stephen A. Smith and Chris Broussard, but Skip Bayless is undoubtably at the bottom of my list. I enjoyed Mark Cuban tearing him apart and it proved just how little Skip actually knows about basketball (and how much Mark Cuban does know).
BlackmoreRulz 06-25-2012, 03:57 PM I used to enjoy his column back in the mid 80's in the Dallas Times Herald. Since he joined ESPN he just seems to thrive on the outrageous.
Logan18 06-25-2012, 09:26 PM I like him when he talks good about Romo and Durant, and talks bad about LeBron. I don't like it when he talks bad about Westbrook or the Thunder. Overall, he's annoying and generally wrong.

Probably fine, for the format of the show they both need someone to argue with. Plus if Skip makes him look better by comparison, just reason to want to continue.
SoonerBoy18 06-25-2012, 10:25 PM I like him, he has good view points on a lot of things such as the Thunder. He isnt biased like most Oklahoma City Thunder Supporters which is a huge ++

Skip hasn't got a clue... go watch the clip where Mark Cuban rips him over basketball knowledge on how the game is played at the NBA level.

First thing, everyone's biased, but Skip's bias is his love for his own opinions. He knows very little about basketball. He has little concept of offensive and defensive sets, positions, or any type of advanced statistics. Instead, he uses anecdotal evidence to support his ridiculous opinions. He's a joke. If you don't think so then you're not very knowledgable about basketball either.

I saw this yesterday, but after reading it again today it has absolutely nothing to do with the question he asked other than you saying Skip isn't proud to be an Okie, which he may not be. It's almost funny how you went in on that for no reason. LOL
Roadhawg 06-26-2012, 10:01 AM He was on Morning Joe this morning... Had no idea who he was and wasn't real impressed.
dskadoris 07-05-2012, 02:53 AM Visited with him at the Finals. He was gracious and asked about my sister who went to NWC. Nice guy.
Laramie 07-05-2012, 08:23 PM Skip is full of controversy; he's most likeable and most disliked, no in between. He will not always tell you what you want to hear--he does back up his opinions with logic.

I agree with you. Although, I have never met him, I think Skip may be a whole different person on a personal level. Most peoples opinions of him are probably based on his comments, opinions, and mannerisms in the media.

Admittedly I stopped paying attention to Skip many years ago but I have never seen Skip use much logic in his opinions.
It always was more like venom and hey look at me shock jock stuff.
dankrutka 12-22-2012, 02:24 AM Yeah. Skip uses selective facts to serve his ridiculous, predetermined arguments. I wouldn't call that "backing up facts with logic."
JohnH_in_OKC 12-23-2012, 09:34 PM Yes, Skip Bayless is a boviated talking head, but that is what makes his show popular -- outrageous opinions. Even I listen to his show once in a while. But on the plus side, Skip Bayless is very smart & he claims to have watched every OU game & almost every Thunder game. I laugh with him as much as many people laugh at him.

He's an outrageous liar...he claimed to be the same calibur of Pistol Pete Marivich, then they exposed him to just being on the 'B' team at Northwest Classen.
