Application submitted today to the Downtown Design Review Committee to add three additional levels to this five-level parking garage.
From the description, it sounds like the design will mimic the new Devon Garage, which you recall was formerly known as City Center West Garage, and was of the same style and size as this property Devon bought it and had it greatly expanded.
demolish existing roofs on existing stairwells of existing parking garage; construct three additional levels to existing five-level parking garage with dark grey perforated metal panels on primary elevations and light gray smooth faced architectural metal panels and curtain wall system & glazing on stairwells.

See the article at the top of this thread.
I'm sure this is just part of the downtown parking crunch. No way is there enough parking in this garage for Oklahoma Tower and Corporate Tower, let alone Leadership Square and City Place.
lasomeday 10-15-2013, 02:00 PM I thought it wasn't possibly to add more floors if parking to this structure?
warreng88 10-15-2013, 02:10 PM It's funny because I asked this to Steve several weeks ago:
Gary T - 11:21 a.m. Do any of the DT parking garages (besides Century Center) have the ability to add on to what they have like the one Devon bought?
Steve Lackmeyer - 11:21 a.m. Yes, but it's an expensive proposition.
I guess it is a big enough problem that they need to take on the cost...
I thought it wasn't possibly to add more floors if parking to this structure?
Yes, it seems at the time Devon was planning to expand the west garage it was reported that the same could not be done for this structure.
Obviously, that's not the case.

Article says only top deck will be affected during construction, which will start in January.
The project will add 336 spaces.
They are getting started on the expansion project.

Ya this is bad. I park there at night since it comes with my lease at Park Harvey. They are starting to block parts off at night. Kind of annoying.
In the mornings it has become a bit busier since it has only one lane to get into. I have noticed in the front that they poured concerte after they tore out the bushes (left one row). They are starting to put up scaffolding it looks like.
I'm really not sure how they are going to upgrade this? Is it from the top?

Yes, look at the rendering a couple of posts up. Adding three levels to the top.
I know the Devon garage was already getting maxed out and they moved a bunch of other company's employees over to this structure, so I don't know how they will be able to accommodate them during this construction.
DowntownMan 03-11-2014, 11:45 AM With this construction displacing Parker's and with the century center construction starting and parkers there about to be displaced...downtown parking is about to get nastier for a little bit it sounds like.
^
Yes, they have to redo the parking decks at the Century Center, although they can probably do them one at a time.
Parking in the middle of the CBD is becoming a huge problem.
I bet whatever happens on the Preftakes block comes with a lot of parking spaces.
FighttheGoodFight 03-17-2014, 11:46 AM Well it became a strange problem today. The have basically closed all visitor parking so it looks like people are kind of just parking anywhere.
I woke up this morning to my car being closed in by fence so I couldn't get out? I just moved the fence, got out, then moved it back. They were also blocking all entrances this morning to move in some more equipment. You would think they wouldn't try this at 7:30am in rush hour?
Crane is up:

Just the facts 03-17-2014, 12:49 PM Maybe the city should find a big vacant lot near downtown (Central Park site) and just offer a free shuttle every 10 minutes to some downtown stops while all of this parking garage construction is going on.
Or, talk to Nick Preftakes about better utilizing the old Auto Hotel on Hudson.
Is it even open? Even if so, it never seemed to house very many cars.

I'm not sure where all the people who used to park on the top are now parking? We never got any notices.
Must be a first come first serve?
Just the facts 03-17-2014, 01:13 PM Really it would be pretty easy. Just total up all of the parking that will soon be available - Main St, City Center East, and 123 - and just create that many space on a Central Park lot. As each garage opens just remove that many spaces at the remote lot until all 3 garages are done.
shawnw 03-17-2014, 09:57 PM Can we blame the apparent non-coordination on the leadership transition at COTPA? (probably not)

Mr. Cotter 03-28-2014, 01:28 PM Think it'll finish before the new Main Street garage?
I can see both cranes from my office. One is moving, the other isn't. Care to guess which is which?
Bellaboo 03-28-2014, 01:33 PM Guess the additional levels are out of steel ? Never seen parking garages built like that.
Guess the additional levels are out of steel ? Never seen parking garages built like that.
Yes, interesting. I'll have to dig up the building permits.
LuccaBrasi 03-28-2014, 02:55 PM In a situation like this, steel equates to a much faster construction time, creates less disruption on the existing day to day operations, and means a much faster turn around time.
shawnw 03-28-2014, 03:02 PM Ironicaly, the dowell garage is basically this type of structure (steel), only wrapped in cinder block and it's taking forever to build a second one...
They aren't messing around (from https://twitter.com/dtOKCbuilds):

Bellaboo 04-17-2014, 09:16 PM Are they going to pour a thin deck of concrete on the metal floors ?

JoninATX 05-29-2014, 09:31 PM Oh lol. Still looks great!
Plutonic Panda 05-29-2014, 09:52 PM yeah haha... I actually like it now.
FighttheGoodFight 05-30-2014, 08:36 AM I have noticed they are putting some new stone on the corners. It looks like it will stick out more from the corners going to the top.

shawnw 08-07-2014, 10:28 AM Was down there this weekend, guess I didn't look up. Was hoping for better integration, but that's not terrible. And it was fast. Which is what was needed.
Looks like they are getting very close to wrapping this up (from https://twitter.com/dtOKCbuilds):

FighttheGoodFight 09-11-2014, 09:04 AM They have started telling people they can park on the 6th and 7th floors.
Looks like they are largely complete (thanks to warreng88 for the photo):
