Another post got me thinking about Heronville Elementary. I went there in the mid-1980s for several years, before my family moved Moore. I've been by there recently and they have updated the school and added on. I know it was much needed, and we can't preserve the old place just like it was at the expense of the students who attend now. Still, it's a little sad that it has changed so much but I am glad they left the original structure and did not start from scratch.
Does anyone out there have any Heronville memories? I remember one teacher in particular, Mrs. Desmond, who had an impact on me and my brother. She was a great teacher and very caring. I remember some of the old ghost stories we used to tell on the playground (you know...when you're a kid every old building is haunted).

SOUTHSIDE GIRL, I went to Heronville from 1966 to 1972. 1st through 6th. I'd love to find out if we had any classes together. I had Ms. Robbins, Miss Coin, Mrs. Hughes and Ms. Carol Barrett. Email me at TiPhillips@earthstokenfire.com to share more information.

UnclePete,
I found this "School named for Mr. Herron, Oklahoma City Educator" on okcs.herronville.schooldesk.net. By the way, my sister attended there until Rancho Village opened. I think she would have attended from 1945 through 1950.

Have you ever looked at the old architecture on the North side of that school. on either side of what used to be an entrance I assume are gargoyles. kind of interesting for an old school. I have heard of a ghost storiy about someone killing a bunch of people in the basement.

I attended in the 50's. My fondest memory is drinking milk from a glass
1/2 pint bottle. Seriously. Worst memory is a teacher telling me I had to
eat my spinach. I waited for her to leave and dumped it in a trash can.
My last elementary baseball game was at Heronville. The coach died

Are those two events related? :)
