Not many details yet but it looks like it's gone.

Horrible news! I did just hear that it's not a total loss. Look for them to reopen sooner than later.

Just saw this story on the early morning news . . .
What a shame. We didn't go there often, but really enjoyed each rare visit.
Hopefully, Tuck is correct here.

The story was right behind one on an apartment fire that also started on the roof/in the attic . . .
Lightning perhaps? Maybe hail damage to some part of the electrical system that took awhile to actually start a fire?

Heard they estimated $1 million in damage. http://www.newson6.com/story/18654124/fire-sweeps-through-popular-oklahoma-city-restaurant

Never been there, what kind of place was it? I have been to the mexican place that is near there, Mama Roja's, which I thought had very good food and nice decor. Understand they had some hail related damage too (breaking out windows and subsequent rain/water damage)????

They were famous for rotiscerre chicken and smokey salmon.
They had other stuff too (steaks . . . pork chops).
The main thing on the plate was always excellent, but the side "Vegetable Medly" could have used some work.
(Just a touch too raw/al dente . . . and the same-ol' same-ol' stuff).

The ambiance made up for any of the "room for improvement".

I always felt like I got an excellent meal for the price.
My wife agrees.

One of those places that I could eat everything on the menu and it'd all be good whether it was their beef tenderloins, enchiladas or meatloaf. They also have some great apps like the stuffed poblano and trout dip. Sucks it happened now as its a great place in the warmer months. Hopefully will get back to rebuilding soon.

Meatloaf - divine.

Maybe this will cause them to open a downtown restaurant, which at one time I'd heard was being planned. Of course it might take as long to get a space ready as to rebuild their existing restaurant.

Okay . . . So, they had the Second Best Meatloaf in the World.
I won't argue with that . . . I will leave it to actual restauranteurs
(clamoring for second place)
to sort that out. =)

After the food, the next coolest thing about this place was the outdoor
FirePit/Deck/Dining and Refreshment Area with the lake in the background.

It was almost as good as was Bahama Breeze.
Back in The Day. =)

REBUILD! REBUILD I SAY!!
Don't put in a lake Downtown to counter UrbanSprawl!

Edited to Add: They had the Second Best Skillet Cornbread I ever 'et.
The best was at a little place on the fringes of Minneapolis.
Where my sister-in-law worked.
As a trainer for "hospitality technicians".

Is there any room along the Canal or maybe start a restaurant row development along the River...maybe somplace near the MAPS 3 park, Boathouse Row etc???

RadicalModerate
05-30-2012, 03:12 PM
If there is room along The Canal or The Oklahoma River (and I hope that there is) . . . Would the current site revert to a park where people could fly kites and walk their dogs and stuff? Maybe with a parking area to accomodate the informal holiday exodus from Downtown of people in search of where all the Food Trucks went after the Food Fest Crackdown in the vicinity of The Flaming Lips Art Gallery near Automobile Row and the notoriously violent Bricktown awhile back?

Oh. Wait: How about Pops II? Arcadia is a long way to drive.
If not that . . . Then maybe The Spaghetti Warehouse is ready to relocate . . .
Willard's Roofing: The Café? They could have an accessible, affordible signature dish . . .
"Schite on a Shingle" . . ?

Rebuild/Repair Red Rock Canyon Grill.
(Let the chant begin.)

Maybe there could even be an opportunity to "buy stock" in the company the proceeds of which could be used to get rid of that Lakeside Eyesore (and walking/bicycle path/undisturbed wilderness violator): Louie's.

I never had a meal at Red Rock that I wasn't happy with. I was sad to see that it had burned down. Weird as it may sound, I had some fond memories with friends at that place. I hope they rebuild. It's a lovely spot on the lake.

You know, as tiny a fan I am of Hal Smith joints, Redrock was rock solid. It was very good and one of OKC's great dining settings.

I heard today from a VERY reliable source that Red Rock will re-open in 90 days, or less. Also, apparently the kitchen itself was not touched; it was just the roof, dining room, and patio.

also heard from a very good source .. they said 2-4 months ... which matches your 90 day timeline

Well, we all know that things take longer than we are told in the restaurant industry, so I am not going to hold them to it for 90 days or 2-4 months. It will be good once they re-open to see what's going on and if they improve on the standards. :)

Turns out the fire was caused by faulty wiring in one of their signs. The turnaround is still supposed to be 90 days, but it is terrible timing for them with a lot of workers busy now with repairs from the storm.

Larry OKC
06-05-2012, 11:00 AM
Will that be covered by insurance? Imagine that any damage that happened after the fire (like rain/water damage from storms much less fire fighting) wouldn't be covered if the electrical caused it first????

A fire started by an electrical problem would still be covered by insurance.

Can anyone explain how lost revenue due to a loss like this is insured?

Jersey Boss
06-06-2012, 06:45 PM
Are you referencing the owners or employees? The owners while losing revenue are also not having to pay wages or other costs associated with running the business while the employees have no offsets. If this eatery is under Hal Smith or another ownership group, revenue is still coming in from other properties. I doubt they are turning up the thermostat or car pooling.

Wasn't that the same thing that burned down the Asian grocery store on N. Classen near Red Cup awhile back? On a positive, it recently reopened and is way nicer than it was before the fire.

That one has more to do with ODOT and rebuilding the Choctaw Rd. exit for I-40.

It is good to see Red Rock start rebuilding very quickly. Hopefully they'll get open in time to enjoy some good weather on the lake.

Or atleast clean up your mess. The dumpsters are still sitting on the lot. If you are not going to or are going to wait 3 years, atleast clean up so some of us dont have to look at your trash everyday as we drive to our places that we work hard to keep nice.

I agree with you.
I am assuming that you are fortunate enough to be referring to "Officing/Restauranting on The Lake" rather than way out there on the edge of The Urban Sprawl of Eastern Oklahoma County, so I could be wrong.

I think there must be some sort of "Civic Minded" regulation that provides a workable timeframe for work of this nature to commence. Regardless of actual location. With appropriate fines for non-compliance.

Plus the parking is already a bit "scarce"--if you are referring to the lakeside location--and it is unfair to workers/potential customers to just allow dumpsters to sit there unfullfilled.

Corndog1
06-13-2012, 07:28 PM
I am refering to both. Sadly i get to drive past both of these sites several times a week. I just think that businesses should be expected to be good neighbors and clean up after something like that. Most have insurance that pay for debris removal as part of the policy, use it and every one else will be happy to not look at your stuff.

Larry, thanks for posting those. The damage was not as bad as I thought. Looks like the entire exterior aside from the roof is in tact and a decent portion of the interior was better than I expected. I see now why they said they would re open in 3 months.

I doubt they will put on another wood roof though!

I've heard the same thing from several people, one of whom is a mini part owner in the group. It was a while back and he told me a specific location and now I've forgotten where it was.

It is nice to see downtown as a logical location for expansion of a successful local enterprise.

As long as they set it up more like Louie's Midtown than Toby Keith's/Kevin Durant's then I'll be happy. I'm going to go ahead and guess Bricktown or MidTown. CBD wouldn't make sense and Film Row is still developing. If they were willing to wait, C2S/Parkside would be a good area for the concept.
