The video store that was on the NE corner of the intersection is gone (along with the Western Sizzlin/Mackie McNeers that was next to it that closed about a year ago). Both properties are leveled, parking lots are gone, down to the red dirt. At first I thought, that is going to be a massive 7-11 going in on the corner but it looks like the former steak house is a separate property (there is a decent elevation change too).

I was actually a bit saddened by the loss of Blockbusters. Good Childhood memories were had. But it was time for it to go. Also liked the Western Sizzlin. Not sure why they demolished Sizzlin' though. Even though it was closed, the building still looked perfectly fine.

The video place was a small bank before that...they bulldozed and built the video place...now dozed again and a 7-11

The W.S. was an older building that the maintenance cost of keeping holes patched, plumbing and electrical in shape etc probably meant cheaper in the long run to tear down and rebuild. Many McDonald's and other places have done that. Same is true for the remaining ones esp, south of I-40 on Merdian and over on SW 74th & Penn...really needs some TLC. But W.S. are slowly vanishing one by one.

Is something going in Western Sizzlin's place? Or was it torn just to sell the vacant lot?

because of the elevation change, I am guessing it is not all for the 7-11 (that would be HUGE for them)...also i think I saw a "for sale" sign still in place
