Interesting! Thanks.
I believe they are planning to use this system on the Amenities Building as well and all their future projects show green roofs in the renderings.
Lazio85 09-11-2012, 09:23 AM Braniff Building facade installment began yesterday!

Thanks!
Looking forward to see what those panels look like once installed.
Photos from today showing new east facade.
Looks like it will match the tower's lobby:

Plutonic Panda 09-18-2012, 12:51 AM Actually I think it's just spelled with an ht. ;)
Wow, that is going to look so incredibly different.
They had originally said Kitchen No. 324 would be open by the end of the year, but that doesn't look likely.
metro 09-18-2012, 10:54 AM Last time I talked to tuck, he was talking Jan./Feb if I remember correctly.
Still shooting for early December. We don't need the entire building to be complete for us to open.

I'll say!
Those panel systems go up quickly once the prep work is done.
Hard to believe Kitchen no. 324 plans to be open in a few months.
SharkSandwich 09-25-2012, 09:56 AM Looks great to me.
Just the facts 09-26-2012, 08:15 AM I hope that looks better in person because from the pictures it doesn't look that great. (that wasn't a direct reasponse to you sharksandwich - I just happened to use the same wording as you).
Spartan 09-26-2012, 09:50 AM Once they're all up somebody needs to go back to NE 4th and take a skyline shot with the new Braniff glass and rest of the skyline rising over the newest apartment construction site.
OKCisOK4me 09-26-2012, 07:04 PM Gonna be kinda hard to set up shop from there with the construction fence in the way, unless you're shooting off the roof of your car.

Praedura 10-02-2012, 01:45 PM Great pics, Lazio85. Do you work at SandRidge? Or have a friend that works there on an upper floor office? That's an awesome vantage point.
SandRidge employees will begin moving into offices on the upper floors in 2013. The modern glass facade being added to the former alley side of the building is designed to match an amenities building set to be built this next year 120 Robert S. Kerr Ave. and other future additions to the SandRidge Commons.

At the top of this page, there's a tab for "Article". In about the middle of that page / tab, there's a link for the history of Braniff Airlines. Pete has done a lot of work to make the article page of the OKC-Pedia feature to be very informative.

Same here. I am really looking forward to this one's completion. The contrast between the classic facade's and modern glass walls will make it one of OKC's most unique buildings. Sand Ridge should be congratulated for the work on this building.
And the Kitchen no. 324 and adjacent outdoor dining patio are going to be stunning and unique spaces.
Can't wait!

UnFrSaKn 11-06-2012, 12:02 PM Remember when I posted stills from the videos I did of them removing the old decorative plaster? I'm really glad they're restoring that.

They are doing a fantastic job of restoring it with some modern flare!

This is actually in the space now so they are moving along.

That workmanship is first rate. This place is just going to dazzle folks.
It's going to be a special spot: Very high ceilings, historic plaster work, great tile and general finishes, excellent concept (breakfast here will be huge) and a great outdoor dining patio all set in the soon-to-be-great Braniff Building.
The SandRidge Plaza looks fantastic from the Kitchen No. 324 perspective.

BoulderSooner 11-15-2012, 08:09 AM This building is going to be one of my all-time favorites in Oklahoma City. I love classical architecture and I love some modern stuff. Somehow, these guys nailed a way to merge the two. (IMHO)
agree i love how this building is turning out
betts 11-15-2012, 08:42 AM I'm going to chime in and say "me too". I've never seen a building merging the old and new quite like this. Has anyone>

Bellaboo 11-15-2012, 09:50 AM I'm going to chime in and say "me too". I've never seen a building merging the old and new quite like this. Has anyone>
Well, I can think of one that was intentionally built to look this way, merging two types of structures together. One of the Integris buildings up on NW Expwy combines both of the glass and brick look from older existing structures into one building...... but it was not a rebuild on an older building.
Urbanized 11-15-2012, 12:18 PM Actually you could appreciate that building a little more if you saw the campus prior to its construction. The (I think) physicians building at the left edge is a solid mirrored glass cube. It was dropped into the mix right in the middle of a lot of brick buildings, and instantly looked odd and misplaced. The construction of this building righted that wrong and visually tied the two styles together nicely. I'm glad Bellaboo posted that, because I have previously thought of that precise building during this discussion. I'm not holding it up as an example of great architecture; it is first and foremost a commercial hospital building. But it WAS thoughtfully designed in the way that it bridged the gap between two eras of architecture on the campus.
Teo9969 11-15-2012, 12:43 PM That Integris building looks better in person than in that picture (maybe the lighting on the brick?). I drive by it several times a week and I've always thought it is done well for what it is...
Another Comparison could be Chesapeake arena. butting Glass against Brick seems to be a lot about making the colors of the two material jive more than anything else.
We are getting pretty far off topic here, gang.
