While all your points are valid, Wal-Mart does have a history of violating labor laws.

What large chain does not?

Agree at least to the extent that you can find instances of the very same things that Walmart is accused of at virtually any large scale organization. The difference may be if they are isolated instances or the norm for that company. Combine with that, Walmart is an easy target because they are on the top of the heap. Same for McDonald's and others. Let someone else replace Walmart and they will quickly become the target.

Doing some looking, Target doesn't have a rosy labor record either. I do wonder if it's as endemic as Wal-Mart's seems to be.

I suspect the flotilla of deadbeat help available today, often almost unmanageable, is part of the problem.
Just watch the 'night-of-the-living-dead' staff zombie their way around when you need something.
The good ones go on and get promoted or leave to better things, the others work long enough to get unemployment for another 99 weeks.
These are entry level folks, it is where they learn to be good employees or bums.
