The only business I remember is LaMode Cleaners. Wonder if that's any relation to Margo's LaMode. An existing retail strip center would be razed which is currently adjacent to a Walmart Neighborhood Market. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/braumsvillage1.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/braumsvillage.jpg The submission comes just months after the Oklahoma City-based company abandoned plans to demolish the historic Donnay Building in the area commonly known as Classen Circle. The company scuttled plans for a new store on that site after a large public outcry and then a new buyer – who plans to renovate and preserve the Donnay – stepped in. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/braumsvillage4.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/braumsvillage3.jpg shawnw 02-21-2018, 10:58 AM Go density Dustin 02-21-2018, 02:21 PM That sign is atrocious. The Nichols Hills nimbys will be outraged. OUTRAGED! swilki 02-21-2018, 02:44 PM I haven’t posted here often since I was elected to the city council in The Village. But I thought in this case I’d share my thoughts which I’ve also posted on my Facebook account. Monday evening we discussed to new developments. A new office building on Hefner and the second development was the new Braum’s in Casady Square. After seeing the initial plans months ago, I had some concerns regarding certain aspects of the proposal. My concerns related mainly to traffic safety issues along Penn, Braum’s signage, and how this development could set the tone for improved walkability in The Village. The options I presented would have created a more walkable area along Penn and brought their signage slightly more in line with the codes that were recently passed at the suggestion of the Village Vision task force. Regrettably, each time I offered a suggestion, I was met with a firm no from the company. Therefore, I voted no on this proposal, knowing that my fellow council members would be voting yes and the development would pass. Don’t get me wrong, I am excited about Braum’s building here and will be a repeat customer! However, I feel strongly that the codes and suggestions developed by the Village Vision and my other council members should at least try to be followed. In the end, I know that Braums will be a great community partner and will be a welcome addition to The Village. Plutonic Panda 02-21-2018, 03:04 PM A company that simply responded no to you each time you tried to make a suggestion to create a more walkable atmosphere and overall better addition to the community will be a good partner. Respectfully, what in the hell is the point of passing codes and having things like Village Vision task force if the rest of the council will vote for projects that don't follow the guidelines? swilki 02-21-2018, 03:18 PM Plu - just tying to stay positive is all. Nick - I don’t disagree. But I will say that the outcomes of that vision process and some of our new codes are a pretty dynamic change for The Village. This was one of the last projects that will get caught up in the shift to these new recommendations.... I hope. But I do feel strongly that there were some simple things they could’ve done that would have respected that vision a little more. Does the Village Vision have any teeth to it? I'm leery of guidelines being created and then everything proposed that doesn't meet the guidelines receiving exemptions or variances. Also, are there any renderings available of the new office building on Hefner? barrettd 02-21-2018, 03:36 PM First, let me say thank you for participating here - I appreciate it. Same builder. It will improve the look on Hefner a great deal. I sure wish Braums cared more about how they designed their stores. I know you can’t badmouth any other council members on here and I don’t want you to, but you seem like a progressive person and great for the city. Do you feel like others in city are on board with making the area more walkable and being more progressive in how buildings are constructed and laid out? swilki 02-21-2018, 04:58 PM I absolutely think long term we are all on the same page about making The Village a different place and growing from were we’ve been. We all want our city to be more unique and noticeably different from the surrounding areas of OKC. The bond packages that we just passed (80% margin btw!) are going to make some massive improvements, beginning with Britton between Penn and May. The new plans call for a multi-path along the road which will eventually tie into Lake Hefner and, I hope, will tie into some other sidewalks and similar trails that we’ve discussed. The area between city hall and Loves will also be another area of great change as the city begins to pay off some debt from the purchase of the old apartments and can then use the TIF funds for some great public projects. It’s an exciting time out here and I really think the next 5-10 years will be a game changer for us. I do believe the Village Vision will continue to shape the future. It doesn’t have teeth per say, but it has already inspired changes to our sign ordinances (sans Braums!), much improved landscaping guidelines and next up for discussion will be building design guidelines. These things take time and we understand that. We’ve added more than 300 homes in the past decade with more to come, great new businesses like Uptown, OnCue and Dunkin’ Donuts...well things are really beginning to change. OKCisOK4me 02-21-2018, 06:06 PM Sentiments shared in the Braums thread. This plan is atrocious. But they have trees between them...that's part of our new landscaping ordinance. ;) In all seriousnesses though, it is a lot, but that is also a pretty busy parking lot because of that neighborhood market. It's often filled. Pete 02-23-2018, 08:51 AM Hey! In addition to a Midwest Wrecking excavator. rtz 03-10-2020, 08:21 PM It will be nice once that Braums is finally built. https://i.postimg.cc/bJHChF5j/AA1-FFB2-C-99-CA-4-C67-A580-9508-EBE590-CC.jpg rtz 05-07-2020, 11:34 PM Looks like it's finally off to a slow start.
