Hey guys, can you tell me where are the coffee shops in the downtown area? Wife will be coming to the city to work for a few days and needs her fix. What all is in central business district and nearby vicinity? Thanks!

There are some very different choices;
If she is wanting a "Seattle" style experience where the coffee is very stylized (and good) and the baristas seem to growl at customer requests to customize their drinks, then Coffee Slingers is your place. A slightly less edgy version of this is in MidTown with Elemental Coffee (they don't growl). If you're looking for a mellow, laid-back experience where you'll get to know the owner on a first time basis and he's eager to make what you want, then Beatnix or The Buzz are more your pace. If you're looking for the "old school" coffee experience, then Java Daves, while smaller than it used to be, is still open along NW 9. And if you're looking for bad coffee, there's always Starbucks.

Slingers is at 10th and Broadway and they don't growl much nowadays. Their coffee is very good. Elemental coffee is at 8th and Hudson and also serves very good coffee. Beatnix is at 13th and Robinson and Starbucks is at Oklahoma and Reno.

I've never been growled at @ slingers.

Ask for Sanka... (I only suggested they seem to growl if one asks for coffee done to their personal taste, instead of how it's set to be served)

Yeah, I frequent all those places and while I go to Slingers the most, it is the unfriendliest - but not so much as to have ever been offended.

Funny, that's twice in a week I've heard someone mention Sanka (recent episode of Mad Men). Prior to this week I bets its been decades since i heard it mentioned.

Alright, fair enough. I used to feel hostility when I went to Slingers too, but that was in the early days when they were pretty dead honestly. Since they've pretty busy after their first year, their baristas have gotten a lot friendlier.
I think at first the baristas there legitimately thought they were way too cool to be serving coffee to us dopes, but like I said, that's changed, and perhaps some of us have gotten a little less dopey.. :p

I see Steve at Beatnix just about every time I'm there. Not sure if it's just good luck or serendipity.

First Edition in the OKC Library is by far the most convenient and best coffee shop.

Thanks guys, that sounds like some pretty good options for her. Not a big Starbucks girl, so she'll appreciate the local places.
The new place at Devon should be open very soon.
