View Full Version : Calvary Baptist Church
HOT ROD 09-18-2013, 11:52 PM i was thinking the same thing, maybe Davis would use the building for a few years then sell/donate it back to the church when his firm gets too big and he needs traditional downtown office digs. He no doubt did a wonderful job on the building and keeping the sanctuary intact - I actually recall attending service a couple of times there as a child with my grandma so the pics brought back some memories.
kudos and great that they saved the building, very much looks like they may be saving it for the future; surely God may bless Mr Davis and his team for this wonderful work.

Praedura 12-03-2013, 11:10 AM Really great shots Will, thanks!
I know I'm repeating myself, but this is such a superb, first class renovation. Every little detail has been thought out and executed beautifully.
I love the lighting around the roof. I suppose this is only for the holidays, but it would be great if they could leave those on year round. It adds an unique flair to the DD skyline.

How well I remember visiting this church decades ago when Mr. Leroy J. Hicks (Douglass High School, vocal music teacher) was the organists for Calvary Baptist Church. This was truly a church with soul.

How well I remember visiting this church decades ago when Reverend James A. Curry was pastor and Mr. Leroy J. Hicks (Douglass High School, vocal music teacher) was the organists for Calvary Baptist Church. He made that organ talk. This was truly a church with soul.
littleb 05-28-2014, 05:23 PM This will be my first time to actually post on here - been a reader on the sight on and off for awhile now or at least when something peaks my interest...
I was randomly searching on the PriceEdwards website today for commercial buildings for sale in the downtown area and noticed that Calvary Baptist Church is back up on the market even after all the major renovations it went in 2012. The price is at $5,000,000 though so those renovations definitely brought up the value of this building. Pretty impressive imo. So I decided to check the place out here on OKCTalk to see if anybody knew why it was up for sale again. Any ideas?
Welcome to posting! :)
Very, very interesting. Was not aware they had listed it for sale.
Seems quite strange given the labor of love. On the other hand, I'm sure $5 million would represent a big profit.
If it sells, sure hope they preserve the main sanctuary and the other beautiful details.
Welcome to OKCTalk, littleb. :)
Office for sale Calvary Baptist Church Building - 300 N. Walnut (http://www.priceedwards.com/oklahoma-city-property/office/sale/calvary-baptist-church-building-300-n-walnut)
shawnw 05-29-2014, 12:46 PM during the architect tour, seemed like they were still working the historic preservation status, hope that doesn't get dropped.
OklahomaNick 05-29-2014, 01:14 PM It's been on the market quietly since 3/28/14.
Price is $272 per SF!
littleb 05-29-2014, 01:16 PM It's a beautiful building, I am definitely shocked that the law firm that owned it put it back up on the market after so many major renovations... I guess we should be keeping our eye on it! Not sure how fast it will sell though with that $5,000,000 price tag on it.
Learned more about the listing of this property for sale.
The $5 million sales price is quite high and the current owner in not anxious to sell. He's merely testing the waters to see if he can get anywhere near that price, would represent a big profit.
Given the limited amount of office space and the unique layout of this building, if it does sell it would have to be to someone with a tremendous amount of emotional attachment, rather than as a true business investment.
chuck5815 05-16-2017, 08:51 AM She's back on the market at $4.5M. Still seems a bit steep.

Yeah, they don't seem to be very serious about selling.
HangryHippo 05-16-2017, 09:16 AM Is the space not working out as the law firm?
catch22 05-22-2017, 11:10 AM Is the space not working out as the law firm?
Perhaps just seeing if anyone bites on the price. For the right price they can cash in, make a healthy profit, and find a different location. If no one bites they may be perfectly comfortable in their space.
chuck5815 05-22-2017, 11:33 AM $4.5M / 19 private offices = $236,842 per office. And an average office is about 200 square feet. So roughly $1,184 per square foot of office space.
I appreciate the character of the building and understand the value of the gym, conference rooms, etc. But the space would make more sense financially if the sanctuary was something other than a sanctuary, even if it were something simple like a bullpen area. Most buyers are going to look at the cost per sq. foot of office space and run the other direction.
