I know they had the structural issues that closed the entire builing for some time a couple years back but did anything re-open (or is anyone planning on opening somthing) in the resturant space at the top of the building?

I don't think there are any current plans in place for the former Vista eatery space. The lower floors are mostly filled with office space again and tenants are being sought for the remaining office spaces.

The Norman Financial Center is about 80% occupied. The ground floor has only one space left. Floors 2, 3 and 5 are fully occupied by the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System administrative offices, appellate divisions, and the main trial divisions. Floor 4 is almost fully occupied by 2-3 private law firms, and some other quasi-governmental entity. The 6th floor is currently empty. I believe the 6th floor is owned by different people than the group that owns the remainder of the building. I doubt there are any plans for it to be a restaurant in the future. The estate of the owners of that floor has sold off all the equipment and tables, chairs, etc. They are trying to sell it or lease it out long term. Their price is a tad high, so it may be a while before something moves there.

I guess the restoration of the building was successful. It did withstand the tornado hitting about a block north on Friday. The only damage was the roof was delaminated. And then on Saturday it was lifted up again. The roof will not have to be replaced. But considering what it could have been, (with the entire west side, and half of the north and south sides being glass from floor to ceiling, it fared pretty well.

The ground floor is fully taken. The north half is Adair Property Management, the south half will be office space (possibly for a doctor, according to a construction worker there). Half the 6th floor is spoken for, I think, by the people who actually own the building (I think Adair just manages the building). The other half is available, I think. There was more damage than just the roof, and I think the roof will have to be replaced.

Just this morning I asked the construction guys what was going into the old offices of Michael Salem, and they told me it was a doctor.

Do you know what will be going on the 6th floor?

And I thought Adair was one of the owners. Maybe not though. Was just my impression.

As for damage...yes there was a considerable amount of water damage on 6 and 5. And light damage on 4, 3 and 2. But that was because the roof was lifted up, and the drain pipes were all broken thus allowing rain to flow into the building. It was quite a mess. And I've been told that they will do a patch job on the roof until they can get the whole thing replaced.

To my knowledge, nothing is going in where the Vista restaurant was. The construction workers have not said anything about building anything up there, although they clearly emptied the place of fixtures during the remodeling. I heard that when the Vista restaurant's owners learned they had to abandon the building due to structural concerns, they took the opportunity to retire.
Unfortunately, in the three or so years since the building was closed, several restaurants have opened in the immediate vicinity. The Garage, McNellie's, and Tres come to mind. Plus, the German bistro is still in the works as far as I know. That does not leave much room for yet another pub-style restaurant in the area. My thought is that any restaurant going up there would have to be head and shoulders above the pub-grub served nearby. Unfortunately, Benvenuti's has the corner of the market.

So, for now, the 6th floor remains an unfinished project.

I 100% disagree .. it is a much more viable space because of all the other bar/food joints that have joined the street depending on how much rent would be of course

I think the renovation costs might be a touch daunting, but it would be nice to see the right committed person or group decide to take it on.

I seriously doubt there'll be another restaurant there anytime soon. Like Mydalmationis8 said, there are a lot of other restaurant options in that immediate area than there were five years ago. Competition would be pretty stiff and the rent is probably too high.

I've heard the asking price for the 6th floor is way over what the market can handle.

I have a good friend who was in discussions to purchase the former Vista restaurant floor. I know for a fact there will not be a restaurant there--they are making them offices. My friend said the price they are asking for that floor is outrageous (I think he said it was $700,000, but I'll confirm).

I hadn't heard a specific price, but I did hear the words "outrageous" and "ridiculous" associated with the asking price for the 6th floor several months ago.
