Well, someone could contact them with respectful concern before it is too late. You're the only one that suggested a "holy forum war," but people can ask questions and make suggestions in the name of quality development in an area that has been highly subsidized by tax payers. OKCTalk has had several successes in encouraging better development despite your dramatic either-or analysis.

I'm not sure the role of the design committee -- in this case, Bricktown -- once plans are approved.

I know the planning office sends out inspectors and my guess is that they continually check to make sure what is built matches the approved specs.

Certificates of Approval have a 2 year limit (with extensions available). An auto-inspection is scheduled for the 2 year deadline. However, if they also have a building permit, a zoning inspection is required before a Certificate of Occupancy is issued. Since design is part of zoning, the Certificate of Approval is evaluated at that time as well.

The design is not inspected as part of construction; however, staff usually keeps tabs on projects and if they see an issue, they make note and contact the people on the Certificate of Approval.

By the way, that photo was while I was sitting on the curb in front of the Police Station waiting for Steve to show up for the last RetroMetroOKC meeting on September 17th. So that's nearly a month old.

I just spoke with the owner, who by the way was a really nice guy, and he says they will be open in 20 days. I looked inside and things are moving along very quickly now inside.

We have talked on other threads about "bar districts" but all the sudden we have one in the Deep Deuce area: DD grill, Le Cep Bistro, The Wedge, a huge bar and probably a couple of restaurants in Aloft, another restaurant to come in Level and Skinny Slims, which I suspect will fast become the local DD hangout.

It's good progress, but I still don't think this area would qualify. A bar district needs places that are primarily bars, not primarily pizza places and hotels, that are close together. These places are each separated by a block or two. I guess the best way to define a bar district is an area where lots of groups of people go to with the idea of hopping between bars. I don't think this area is there. I love what's happening in this area though.

Calling Skinny Slim's a Deep Deuce establishment is a stretch. Separated from DD by railroad tracks, weeds, hefty grade separation, Main Street Parking Ocean. Hopefully we'll see some pedestrian-focused improvements in that area that will make it easier to access for DD residents, and for places like The Wedge to be easier to access from Bricktown.

Didn't say Skinny Slims was in DD, just that it may become a hangout for the locals who live there.

Is this project still on? Looked inside a few days ago and it's still far from complete.

Saw some guys inside the other day. Just standing around in there. Don't know what they were doing.

Small $2,000 building permit for this project so it looks like it is still going forward.

I suspect they had some building or design code issues that had to be sorted out.

Saw two guys working inside the building on Monday.

On Thursday, they had a distributor van there that looked to be setting up tap equipment.

I went by tonight and had a great conversation with the manager. The bar has a really relaxed atmosphere and their beer selection is top notch! I predict that this will be the new favorite bar in Bricktown.

Love the dimly lit pub look it has.

it was kinda crazy last night... cause my and my party were some of the first people in there... and one of the bartenders came over to us with a knife and asked us if we wanted to carve our names into the table to help christen the place... then i looked over at the table by the TV and saw that all the bartenders and the manager had done this... so i took the knife and you can see jedicurt clearly carved on one of the tables... i found it a very interesting idea...

Hearing they will be installing their patio in the next few weeks, and that will be a great spot on nice days.

Love the character of this place -- bet it will be a big hit.

I was surprised to hear this place criticized (construction wise) during Steve's chat last week. Having been there I didn't notice what was pointed out, but then I wasn't looking for it. I thought it was a nice, quaint place that got a good jump on an area that is about to explode.

The criticism pertains to the exterior on the highway side so you wouldn't notice from inside the bar. It's a nice little bar that took shortcuts on the exterior.

That wooden screen will last for about half the duration of a severe thunderstorm with 60mph+ winds.

Honestly this place looks gross. I understand the concept and limited budget etc... But at least kill/pull the weeds/grass growing between the patio and building?

Man, I stand by my original assertion. This place is an absolute dump. I kind of agreed with Sid earlier that we had bigger fish to fry, but what kind of business do we have going after bigger fish when we can't even corral the little ones? This development is trashy. Look at Sid's pictures, the workmanship is total crap. Just really disappointing that they couldn't have done this in a better manner.

The screen would look 500% better if it were painted black. With apologies to Sid, the brick on the walk-is NOT a brick board product or anything like that, it is actually thin brick tiled onto the wall and then grouted. Materially it is made of the same substance as an actual brick wall, but it is not stacked and coursed like brick. Like I said, it's more like a tiled wall. Made out of tiles made out of brick.

I'm sure they'll do some landscaping. The folks who run it are obviously interested in adding to the district rather than subtracting from, and take an obvious pride in having a nice place. I have no doubt the nice inside will spill out onto the outside soon.

By the way, if it will make anyone feel better, the roof-top and the area around the walk-in are pretty much ONLY visible to people WALKING up and down the Walnut Street Bridge on the east stairs. Which probably means Sid and about 5 other people LOL.

Urbanized, are you sure about the walk in being "tiled" brick? Weren't there pictures posted (here?) that them wrapping it with what essentially looked like thick wallpaper...? I'll see if I can't locate them. No matter, it just looks shoddy on the exterior. I hope that they are interested in letting the nice inside spill out.
