I'm spending this inclement day looking at old YT vids, and I noticed this sign in this video (at :40): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6taIQ-6GYSE&feature=fvwrel . It's a pretty well-established joint, it looks like! I can't really think of any analogues today. Where was this at, and is the building still up?

WKY Television Theatre was in the Civic Center Music Hall in the Little Theatre. At that time, WKY radio was located just blocks away at the Skirvin Hotel. The news department had the entire sixth floor. Earlier, they had been at the Plaza Court, where McNellies is now.

Nice! I can totally see how a studio would fit neatly in that building; it's cavernous.

Did Mary Hart get her start at WKY Studios?

Oh, I'm glad to share what I've run across, but I can't take credit at all for the very thoughtful preservation of this history—that belongs to one of a few media enthusiasts on YouTube. There's some neat stuff on there, and more importantly, inspiration.

I thought they had already moved to the current location by the time WKY-TV started?

Ok, I watched the video. Civic center obviously.

It's a shame that there's no longer a market for locally produced shows. I remember Gailard Sartain's Mazzeppa Pompazoidi Uncanny Film Festival & Camp Meeting on KTUL in Tulsa. It was pretty good. Gailard and Gary Busey and a bunch of others were young, talented, full of energy and that made up for the ultra low budget production values.
