View Full Version : Live OKC "Owl Cam"
jclick 03-28-2012, 08:09 PM For the past several years, our cul de sac has had a family of owls that has lived here. They often perch on roof tops and balconies in the cooler months, keeping little ones like our daughter awake at night with excitement. We've had occasional eggs laid in our upstairs window planters, but they've never been fostered. Until now!
The last week of February, two eggs were laid in an urn on our front balcony, just outside a window, and the Mama Owl has laid on them nearly 24/7 since. The average gestation is 33 days, putting the hatch time into late this week. I've set up a live web cam giving us all a foot-away-view from Mama Owl, the eggs, and soon, the baby owls.
You can check out the live stream on UStream here:

Love your homes, too!
betts 03-28-2012, 10:06 PM We had owls on our balconies for about a week. It sounded great to hear them at night, but they moved on,sadly.
Roadhawg 03-29-2012, 09:19 AM Pretty cool
bluedogok 03-29-2012, 08:55 PM I lived in The Invitational apartments many years ago and had an owl visit a tree next to my balcony nightly for a period, I never saw it, just heard it nightly. I just assumed it nested in Martin Nature Park or something.
PennyQuilts 03-29-2012, 10:04 PM That's just amazing!! Thanks for sharing the link and photos.
HewenttoJared 03-30-2012, 10:04 AM Neat!
Wambo36 03-30-2012, 02:09 PM Very interesting to watch. Food for thought - watch out for your small pets. My in-laws, who live in a fairly suburban neighborhood, were surprised to find out that one of these owls could carry their 7- 10 lb. cat over their stockade fence. The vet said the only thing that saved it was that the owl was only able to latch on with one set of talons. He said if it had gotten latched on with both, their cat would have probably just "run away" that night. Or what ever else it is you say when a pet disappears.
old okie 04-01-2012, 09:23 AM Really interesting! Can't believe it's a great horned owl; they aren't small, but she seems to fit into that planter just fine.
jclick 04-02-2012, 09:18 PM Just wanted to update everyone that the first owlet hatched today. Great footage of it while the mama was away here...

Pete, thanks!
Wambo, dead rabbit in the urn this morning, actually. We're keeping close tabs on the Yorkie for sure!
Yes, they will snatch small dogs and cats all day long.
Interesting trivia: A group of owls is called a parliament.
Looking forward to seeing the owlets grow up.
kevinpate 04-02-2012, 10:07 PM enjoying this, when time permits.
FFLady 04-03-2012, 08:02 AM Thanks Jclick - nice diversion from media!!!
jclick 04-04-2012, 06:47 PM Not to send FFLady back to the media she's enjoying a diversion from, but News9 just aired a story about our owl cam. See it here:

Plutonic Panda 02-28-2013, 07:15 PM Channel 9 found this story through this thread.Yes, not to change the subject, but I think quite a few stories from the news might have came from this site. It's funny how when all this talk about the AICC started up a few days ago, News9 post an article debating, what people were discussing on here, whether or not it is worth it.
But, anyways, these owls are very cute and you're lucky to have them. :)
jclick 02-08-2014, 09:39 AM Just letting you guys who are subscribed know that the cam is back on for another season of owlets. This time, 3 eggs! We're hopeful they'll all successfully hatch. We're now on Hatch-Watch, and expect hatching of the first egg any time.

rezman 10-22-2016, 05:50 PM I hope they catch that A**H*LE..!
It never fails. Somthing comes along that is good and decent and enjoyed by many, and some dumbass comes along and has to ruin it for everybody.
I hope Mr. Tiger finds a new mate and they continue to reside in the Click's window box.
moxyweez 10-22-2016, 06:33 PM I couldn't agree with you more. Senseless
