Saw this in the DOK.

• Popeye's Chicken paid $490,000 to Mid Property Holdings LLC for a 5,680-square-foot building at 7612 S Western Ave. Inman and Graham handled the transaction.

Love me some Popeye's...Was kinda upset when they closed in Moore until 30 other chicken joints opened on 19th

i *think* that's the former location of big-o tire. what's crazy is that next door is grandy's and right across the street is kfc... so that's going to make three chicken chains operating in very close proximity. -M

Yup, almost has to be that old Big-O location. My wife said *exact* same thing about its proximity to KFC and Grandy's. Now, in all honesty, I'm not sure Grandy's is much of a competitor these days, as I see more of them closing than anything else, but KFC might be a different animal. We'll see.

Always wondered how that Grandy's has hung on. We used to go there quite a bit years ago, because at that time their chicken was miles better than KFC, but one day we got a batch for a Sunday lunch that tasted like it had been cooked three days ago. It was awful, and you could tell from the color that the oil they used was either a) different, b) old, c) both. In the spirit of fairness, and hoping against hope that we just got them on a bad day, perhaps an overcooked batch, we went back about two weeks later, and sure enough, same stuff, same smell, same appearance, same taste. That was the last time we went there.

My mom was so frustrated she called them, and the manager told her that they were now being forced to use a "cheaper grade of cooking oil" (geez, fat ain't fat?) across all the restaurants as a cost saving measure. She told them how bad it tasted and smelled, and the manager just told her "there's nothing we can do, because we don't control what kind of oil they send us. They just told us this was what they were changing to, and that's what we have to use."

And that was the end of Grandy's for us.

Guess the Grandys on NW 39th & MacArthur didn't get the memo...I haven't had any problems there...LOL

I've eaten at that exact location and it isn't any different than the others. Mediocre.

Everytime I drive past there I am shocked to still see it open, even if I've already passed by earlier on in the day.

Whenever I go/go by the parking lot is at least half full and drive thru wrapped halfway around the building (weekends)

MDot

Wow, really? Usually when I drive by the parking lot is completely empty except for 2 or 3 cars and a cop car that's always there. (weekdays between 4-5 pm)

I ate there almost every week for 3 years about 3-6 years ago and it was usually just me, my mom and sister and 3 or 4 other families at about 5 pm on any given weekday.

"Your mileage may vary"

Cant speak about weekdays as I dont get over that way, usually over there on the weekends sometimes for breakfast, sometimes lunchtime. Not really surprised if it is empty between 4-5 pm (in between lunch/dinner rushes), that seems to be fairly common and is with my work schedule it fits right in for me to go someplace when they are less crowded like that...plus some places of early-bird type of specials about that time of day.

Yeah, I can see that. It's kind of funny how the difference in time and day can determine how full it will be.

I haven't been since they started using this "cheaper oil" but every time I've gone before I've absolutely loved their chicken fried steaks and chicken nuggets, even at times craved them.

I miss having the Grandys on NW 23rd, near OCU and near where I live. I could get a fix for chicken livers (which I love) so readily. I haven't been to a Grandys since the NW 23rd location closed, and I don't remember how many years back that was. As well as I can recall, they had a greater variety of food that KFC did, as well.

Surely they would have wait a little more and then could have take over on grandys.

I guess they decided to go with a place that was already empty instead of waitiing for another to close. Welcome BTW :welcome5:

Charlie40: I miss the days when A&W was good (last time was when they were in the buildings like your avatar)...since they became half of a building (often with Long John Silvers in these parts), their quality went waaaaaaay down.

Yeah, we've about given up on Sonic. About a year ago, they seemed to really be trying to upgrade their consistence and quality of their food, but man, the last month or so has just been horrible. Sandwich buns that taste like they've been sitting on a windowsill for a day, dry as a bone. Improperly filled orders. Greasy grilled onions (a neat trick in my book, but not in a good way), just kinda like they don't give a darn. I realize it isn't glamorous food, but good grief, take a little pride in the product if its helping you pay the bills...
