There is a new construction site on the west side of Western not too far south of the river. New construction in that area is rare. Does anyone know what going in there?

It may very well be but it seems to be a very large area where ground is being cleared. oneforone 03-17-2012, 09:53 AM I was over that way on Wednesday. They posted a sign stating Tinker Federal Coming Soon. It looks like Western from I-40 to at least 44th will see a makeover in the next few years. Especially if Sears kicks the bucket or closes the S. Western store. That would be a good spot for a Supercenter or retail center. The neighborhood is turning around a little fewer renters more home owners that wants safe streets. I was assigned to Southwest Medical Center for a year. We had dozens of people daily asking why no hotels were near the hospital or there weren't more restaurants. I always explained to people the hospital site was the fringe of the city when it was built. If they had known that 240 was going to be where it is today I can guarantee it would be on 240 and likely the size of Baptist. In fact the hospital founders built the hospital by going door to door asking for donations. The blue collar crowd helped get South Community off the ground. It was a great hospital until the 90's when over spending and bad management almost killed the hospital. Baptist came to the rescue and the two hospitals merged and eventually became INTEGRIS. Since then they stepped in saved others. Yukon originally was not an INTEGRIS facility it was aquired during the construction phase. Had they not stepped in the place may have been like the lucent plant skeleton out off the Kilpatrick. plmccordj 03-18-2012, 01:59 PM Is this where the old downtown air park is? Spartan 03-18-2012, 03:48 PM No, this is just south of that. There is a TON of greenfield (and some brownfield) along Western, not just the old downtown air park. Tavia 03-18-2012, 05:53 PM There is a sign announcing a new TFCU. I saw this a couple of weeks ago. |
