LakeEffect 04-18-2013, 11:31 AM The Ballpark is a City built & owned facility. Did the City give up vendor control to the Redhawks? I would imagine that the City has always relegated vendor control to the facility operator, the Redhawks. I don't think the City operates the facility... other than paying for repairs. Urbanized 04-18-2013, 01:02 PM Pretty sure that is accurate. Although over the winter the Redhawks invested quite a bit in some cosmetic upgrades, many of which I am sure were associated with the naming rights agreement. Regarding the (former) Hideaway in the ballpark: Hideaway from the outset wanted to operate on the plaza on non-game days but the team's management (this was previous ownership) insisted that the same percentage structure stay in place as on game days. This meant that while all other Hideaways sell a medium pizza for say, $12, the one in Bricktown would have to sell the same pizza at $22 or something along those lines. The numbers just didn't work for Hideaway, and I know they were really disappointed (as were those of us who would have made regular use of that location). If they would have been allowed to do that and were still in place I don't think it would compete at all with the Broadway location. Different markets, different uses. The ballpark location would have been more seasonal, outdoor, pedestrian-oriented and would have been more of a lunch place other than on event nights. I did hear the same info about the new Redhawks owners wanting to go a different direction with a pizza vendor of their choice. I don't think it was Hideaway's desire to move out. RadicalModerate 04-18-2013, 01:32 PM As one who remembers the refreshing taste of an ice cold Stroh's from the middle of the beer barrel pushed around the stands at "The Ol' Ballpark" by The Fairgrounds I am somewhat astonished at the apparent "gentrification" of the level of complaints regarding food offerings at the newer ballpark in Bricktown. (what's it called now?) OKCretro 04-18-2013, 04:00 PM i have been disappointed in the ballpark the last few years. Its now almost just a circus, too many t-shirt throwers, promotions. Hopefully it will go to local ownership again soon. HangryHippo 04-18-2013, 05:22 PM i have been disappointed in the ballpark the last few years. Its now almost just a circus, too many t-shirt throwers, promotions. Hopefully it will go to local ownership again soon. This is absurd. The experience at the ballpark now is great. The new ownership is fantastic and is considered to be one of the finer ownership groups in minor league baseball. My experiences lead me to agree with that assessment. What is "This" in terms of absurd[ity]? I agree that "the experience" at the ballpark is great! (although i can't testify as to the veracity of "now".} It's way better than that place by the fairgrounds. (it's=the experience of minor league baseball.) (pop quiz: what is a packard?) Frankly I wish that I could walk over to the ballpark whenever there is a homestand and root for the local team. However: that is not possible. Dustin 09-23-2013, 05:42 PM My favorite Hideaway! So happy it's about to reopen! tomokc 10-01-2013, 04:21 AM I am happy to report that Hideaway reopened Monday night after a full year's absence. Employees were wearing t-shirts with graphics resembling firefighter's t-shirts, and a "HPFD" logo. I bumped into friends while waiting for my pizza to go, and I was pleased to see the addition of a bar. Previously there was no comfortable place to wait for a to-go order, and this solution has a comfortable, neighborhood pizza parlor effect. Several wines, lots of beer on tap, and a full bar including several flavored vodkas (which I mention as an example of the depth of their spirit inventory). I almost forgot: The pizza (thin crust ATW) hasn't changed a bit. Glad they're back. It's been too long. I'm with you, C.T. I like Italian Sausage with a lot of Pepperoni. I can't say that I've had sliced I.S. I like the ground I.S. and the spiciness. A great combo for pizza. I get bad heartburn from the acid in many of the tomato sauces (Pizza Shuttle is another place which gives me problems) so I'm happy when I can get the garlic and olive oil glaze pizzas. It's actually a very traditional saucing option for pizzas. ctchandler 10-10-2013, 02:10 PM Jerrywall, My problem isn't heartburn, it's just pure unadulterated pain from some pizza sauces and other things. I ate at an Italian restaurant in New Orleans, veal parmesan and woke up in the middle of the night, praying for death. But I had it at Papa Dio's last week and no problem. So, I just avoid it on pizzas when I can. By the way, Papa Angelo's in Bethany has the garlic and olive oil glaze. C. T. I'm with you. They have a "JRW Special" which is a sampler with ravioli, cannelloni, spaghettini with meatballs, veal parmesan, and Italian sausage. It's a lot of food. And of course, they have veal parmesan as an entree. I think you will like them. The place (I forgot their name) at Sooner Road and Reno also serves veal parmesan. C. I consider Godfather's and Mazzio's "fast food". I no longer go to Hideaway, I prefer the mom and pop places, Nomad II, Papa Angelo's, Papa Dio's, and Two Brothers. They are even though it is a small chain, and I believe they are all owned by the founder? Anyway, my statement about the places I prefer still stands. I miss Sussy's but Nomad II serves the Sussy's style (I believe they have the recipe since it used to be a Sussy's store). It's not totally original, but the crust is superb and seems to be exactly the same. C. T. My wife & her family love Hideaway. I on the other hand think it's just ok and I'd rather venture to one of the many other great options we have now. They do a great job all around but it's nothing special IMO. Give me Halls, Empire, Gusto, Sauce Sicilian, Dado's to name a few before Hideaway. I wish Andolini's from Tulsa would open a spot here. The original Hideaway Pizza did open in Stillwater in 1957, and traces its roots back to the Dermer Family and is still the original. Known as "The Hideaway Pizza" and is the single location in Stillwater. It operates separate from the other Hideaway Pizza's. Former employees of "The Hideaway" in Stillwater opened "Hideaway Pizza" on Cherry Street in Tulsa in 1993 and then started the expansion to other locations, including the one is Edmond next to the UCO Jazz Lab in 2006 or so. I believe this is the same group of ownership of the current franchise model with the multiple locations in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas.
