Teo9969 03-11-2014, 12:10 PM It's really not so uncommon to see such things on old buildings, at least not in Europe or down here in BsAs. I don't think anyone from an older urban city would ever notice.
And the obvious quick remedy is just a quick paint job, the black is the only reason they're so obvious.
catch22 03-11-2014, 12:51 PM I don't mind the black, it's the spacing and order of them. If the one on the right just stayed straight, and if they were equally spaced. I wouldn't notice them at all. But having no visual order / balance to them makes them stand out and look like an after thought.
David 03-11-2014, 01:00 PM The spacing and different shapes make them more interesting looking to me.

I have OCD and just looking at the picture is making me lose hair and add lines to my face.
David 03-11-2014, 01:06 PM I dunno. Very little of that building has a consistent shape anyway, my inner OCD isn't getting particularly worked up about it.

I'm with you 100% on this.

When lifting weights on the bench press, my bar has to be running parallel and spaced between the lines on the ceiling/tiles.

Urbanized 03-11-2014, 02:56 PM Those lamp shades look awful; almost like they are wrapped in cellophane. I am never going there.

I know it can't live up to Stage Center standards, but at least it's a worthwhile investment in preserving an old structure.
Urbanized 03-11-2014, 03:14 PM Your sarcasm meter must be turned off. Also you proved BDP's point about the contemptuous nature of SC haters (http://www.okctalk.com/showwiki.php?title=Stage%20Center&page=32#post758126) by trolling me in an unrelated thread.

And the ceiling is lower than the O club. Count me out as well.

And they left dirty towels laying out too. This place is doomed to fail. :)
Urbanized 03-11-2014, 11:02 PM See? THAT'S what I'm talking about!

I know, right?
Scene from the O Bar. They are still hoping to be open this weekend:

OKCisOK4me 03-13-2014, 01:01 PM I'm praying for this weekend so that the Urban Johnnies crowd will be a lil thinner!
shawnw 03-13-2014, 01:12 PM I've been to UJ twice, with a third time coming on Friday and I've been surprised to see tables always open...

I'm going on Saturday night so I think the traffic count will be much higher.
Urbanized 03-13-2014, 02:06 PM Haha had lunch there today AGAIN. Finally got my Johnnie's cheese. There were plenty of tables, but the bartender told me the crowd was still more than anticipated.

The blue lights must have been off or not working.
Urbanized 03-13-2014, 02:24 PM No, they were working, but I powered through the uneasy feeling they gave me.

CCOKC 03-14-2014, 01:06 PM Any news on the opening this weekend? If it is open I will go either tonight or tomorrow and give a report.

O no!
catch22 03-15-2014, 11:59 AM Had breakfast as Waffle Champion this morning. This building looks great. Very well done. The downspouts don't look bad at all in person. Great job!
They did not get open this weekend and are now shooting for Thursday.
bchris02 03-17-2014, 11:11 AM This looks awesome. Is the bar open to the public or only to hotel guests?
Bar and restaurant are open to the public.
Wowee Kazowee!

catch22 03-18-2014, 12:52 AM Pete, it looks even better in person. You will be even more pleased when you see it on your next trip.
The Ambassador is officially open! Guests will be staying there tonight.
They do not yet have their liquor license, so the O Bar won't be open for at least a few days. I believe they are doing a very “soft” opening of the restaurant.
These are all from yesterday and today, just before they opened. Thanks so much to General Manager Jeff Erwen for hosting us on such a frantic day.
And as always, a special thanks to our man Will Hider who has already made several trips over to the Ambassador and taken a ton of his own time on his limited days off.

There was a bar called the Opus Bar in the Opus Hotel in Yaletown (yuppyish neighborhood, similar to Midtown) that I went to a couple of times in Vancouver. It was one of the top rated bars in the city. I think the O Bar could be very similar to that.
^
I love the long, high table that provides a view over the lower chairs near the south window.
That bar is going to kill it.
Teo9969 03-18-2014, 08:12 PM Wow…
I just can't say how impressed I am.
Wow
How much will a night cost in the cheapest room here? I'm guessing in the $250 - $350 range?
Teo9969 03-18-2014, 08:15 PM Answered my own question…right now only <$200!!!
I'm going to assume that's until the hotel regularly is booked full.
On their res system it looks like their rooms will start at $179.
soonerguru 03-18-2014, 11:05 PM The photos make this look nicer than the Colcord or the original in Tulsa. Very, very nice. What a fabulous place to stay and a superb location, too.
Very impressive
I despise the word "stay-cation" and I can already hear my wife saying it once she sees this place. Nevermind the fact that we live 10 blocks north!

no1cub17 03-20-2014, 11:33 PM This looks just stunning - another home run for midtown! Looking forward to trying out all these new places - Ambassador, Blue Garten, Aloft (assuming they ever open). Too many new places to go, too little time! Not to mention the 7th floor bar - wow!
JoninATX 03-21-2014, 11:51 PM Wow!!! Very nice indeed.
BG918 03-22-2014, 01:16 AM The original renderings showed a pool but I don't see one. Is there one?
shawnw 03-22-2014, 01:18 AM Yes, it's in the back. Seemed like they were still working on it when I walked by on Thursday but I really didn't have a good view.
ljbab728 03-22-2014, 01:41 AM There is a very good picture of the pool under construction at the top of the thread.
ljbab728 03-22-2014, 06:15 PM I Stopped by the bar late this afternoon for a quick drink.

Excellent! So they have their liquor license.
What were your impressions of the hotel and bar??

I wasn't there long but it was impressive. My only complaint was that they used crushed ice for my scotch and water. The bar is open from 4PM until midnight. They said the hotel was sold out last night. I asked the woman at the front desk if they had any printed material to pass out and she said not yet.
Chadanth 03-22-2014, 09:19 PM Stopped by for a drink after dinner at 1492. The bar was slow, but they said they were packed on Friday. Very cool place, but the staff is still getting up to speed. The whole place seems to be in a soft launch mode, and that probably for the best. The bar is going to be a hit, no doubt. I'll try the restaurant soon. The lobby was really beautiful, but if you wander around, you'll see there are still a few finishing touches to be done.
The wife and I did decide to stay there this summer one night, just as a staycation. It'll be great.

They have both crushed and cubed ice. Also of note is that 2 of the bar tenders came from wsky and are top notch
