I got out and took a few photos of University North Park, the Main Street area, and Loft 401 today. I had hoped to get some photos of Campus Corner but I ran out of time... I'll have to do that next time.

Enjoy....

You know the thing that struck me about taking these pictures was how very un-walkable UNP felt (I kept looking over my shoulder expecting to be run over by an SUV) but how very walkable all of east Norman is. It was like night and day. Also, it was interesting how difficult it was for me to find good shots of UNP... felt like I had to move around and frame my pictures with a lot of effort. With downtown not so much, I found many interesting things to snap photos of pretty effortlessly.

It's just funny because often times people on these forums talk about these sorts of issues, and although I generally agree I don't know that I focus on them much, but man with camera in hand while traveling on foot all the things people on here talk about were very noticeable.

Definitely a welcome addition. And though I rarely go to the shopping sections of UNP, I agree with the looking over the shoulder concerns. We have some inattentive drivers here.

It's interesting that you call downtown "east Norman". I've never thought of it that way.

In the time I've been here the various dividing lines I've heard folk use for noting E/W side of town include I-35, Flood Ave., RR tracks, Jones, Porter Ave., and 12th. Seems to largely depend on where one resides.

We could probably get really technical and say that 12th or even better 24th NE/SE is actually the dividing line to cut Norman in half. Though not many really consider, know, that Norman city limits go east all the way out to include Thunderbird.

For me personally, I generally consider the railroad tracks the dividing line.

Regardless, great pics.

Porter is the official dividing line. That's why Sooner is called 12th East, and Bryant is called 12th West. Porter is like Norman's Reno in that regard.

I'm sorry but that's not totally correct. Jones Avenue is the official dividing line in central Norman. If you look at a street map all of the streets west of there are designated as West and the ones that are east of there are designated as East. Porter is between the 300 and 400 block east in central Norman. If you go to the far north side of Norman you would be correct.

Welcome to the dark side of the force. Just for fun try riding a bicycle (but make sure life insurance permiums are paid up). BTW - the best photos of UNP are to be taken from the middle of the street. The place (like most of suburbia) was setup to provide a nice view from the driver seat.

Questor, you probably know that Forward Foods downtown has or will close and move to another location. I read where but have forgotten.

Oh I had forgotten that. I did a quick search and it looks like they have moved directly across the street from Wendy's / Natural Grocer / etc. I'll have to check them out the next time I am over there.

Very nice photos. The first few, the ones with the bridge, is that the underpass they are building at Robinson?

It's amazing how in your photos all those trees downtown are blooming now. Just last week when I was down there it still looked like they were in hibernation mode.

East/West Norman: Wow, lighten up people. For what it is worth, most of my downtown photos were taken at 101 East Main, 121 East Main, and 215 East Main. A few photos were taken at 102 West Main and 132 West Main.

Questor there was no need to lighten up. It was hardly a confrontational exchange even if it was off topic.
