View Full Version : S&B Burger Joint
Wishbone 01-20-2018, 05:54 AM So this location is going in right across the street from a 5 Guys that just opened there. And there is already a Steak N Shake there and a Garage, Smashburger, Whataburger, and Braums down off Council. Doesn't matter to me as S&B is pretty much the worst burger in town imo.
stile99 01-20-2018, 07:06 AM Moore and Yukon do that, but with chicken places.
Uptowner 01-20-2018, 02:53 PM I believe that was the last Pizza Inn in Oklahoma City.
There’s a former pizza inn on Wilshire & may that changed banner to “Luigi’s” a several years ago. It’s a little run down. But the pizza is exactly the same, maybe a little better as they never skimp on the toppings. They also do a lunch buffet for something like $5.99.
soonermike81 01-20-2018, 03:17 PM It’s probably been 30 years since I’ve had pizza inn. Can someone remind me what was unique or different about their pizza?
Urbanized 01-21-2018, 08:55 AM I used to eat at one in Wichita fairly often but that was more than 30 years ago. I ate a the one at May and Wiltshire once or twice but the most recent visit was probably at least ten years ago. The main thing I recall was the crust on most of the pizza being thinner and crispier than most othe pizza places. Other than that it was completely unremarkable.
gopokes88 01-21-2018, 07:53 PM S&B has pretty much lost everything that made it cool.
The menus are massive, bloated, hard to read and full of ridiculous items. Like quesadillas.
They expanded so far so fast they’ve had a noticeable slip in quality.
The north May location tv’s have never worked correctly since it’s opened. Picture is pixelated and the sound is off.
The original still maintains some charm but every other location is meh.

From what I remember a server saying when we went to the original location a while back, it's the only one still really under control of the original owners, I think they've divested themselves somehow of all the rest, not sure if it's franchising, licensing, or just hands-off, or what. Makes sense from what we've experienced in different locations from them.
Urbanized 01-21-2018, 08:49 PM Only one of the original two partners remains associated with the group to whom they sold several years ago. He’s the S in S&B. The B started Hacienda Tacos in Northpark after leaving.
TheirTheir 01-22-2018, 09:09 AM I believe Brian also opened Hillbilly's, which is no more.
The OG location is the only location I will go to, due to the reasons stated above.
Urbanized 01-22-2018, 10:17 AM Brian was still involved with those guys at the time Hillbilly’s opened. After they closed and he left the group he did an apprenticeship with Kurt Fleischfresser (final class at Coach House) and then opened Hacienda.
catch22 01-22-2018, 11:07 AM My only gripe with S&B is the fact that all of the servers fill the cups up 90% with ice before putting in soda, giving you about 3 ounces of fluid before being due for another refill.
Will be opening a new location in the Henry Hudson's building at 1000 NW 192nd, which is just west of Western.
I'm not sure if that location is still open or not.
mgharfeh 09-17-2020, 11:33 AM The Henry Hudson is still open there. Are the going in the strip center next to it? Or perhaps building across the street next to the future Braums location?

Building permit is for 1000 NW 192nd and that address is for Henry Hudson's.
It looks like they are just taking over there.
jbkrems 09-17-2020, 09:06 PM I called Hudson's Public House on Danforth (192nd) and got some information. We live nearby and are sad to hear of their imminent closure. The manager told me that Sunday, September 27th will be their last day open. This is true for both the Edmond location and the location in Bricktown. Both are closing on September 27th. The parent company is eliminating the Public House concept and claiming it is due to Covid. She said they are expecting the employees to be transferred to other locations, most likely Henry Hudson Pubs. She also told me that she could not confirm that an S & B Burgers would actually go into this location. She said it might also be a Bricktown Brewery or something else. She said one of the reasons why they have lost money is that people confuse the Public House concept with the Henry Hudsons Pub concept, and don't understand the Public House is family friendly. RIP Hudson's Public House 9-27-20.
Oh no, I really liked the Bricktown location.
That will be another big loss for the district.
Edmond Hausfrau 09-23-2020, 01:36 PM Mark me down as someone who never understood the Henry Hudson's Pub vs Public House distinction. Thought they were all smoky bars selling 3.2% pitchers.

Same here. I never knew there was a difference. That's a failure on their marketing or lack of marketing.
The one in Bricktown is great and never got the attention it deserved.
ctchandler 09-23-2020, 08:54 PM There was never any smoking in the Danforth place and I don't think there was at the Bricktown location either.

That's right, the Hudson's Public House on Danforth was family friendly; they did not allow smoking and families could come with their kids. My wife and I will miss their french dip sandwiches and grilled chicken breast sandwiches. Not to mention their awesome service !!!
amocore 09-24-2020, 10:39 AM The Bricktown one is a loss. I was going regularly for lunch, pre covid though.
It was a nice complement of the BT brewery and Tap Wreck.
SEMIweather 09-26-2020, 11:55 PM The Bricktown location was excellent to watch the Women's World Cup at last year for people who wanted to avoid the crazy crowds at Skinny Slim's.
I just confirmed that yesterday was the last day for both their locations.

PaddyShack 09-28-2020, 03:35 PM That is a sad loss for BT. We were regulars at Skinny's before having our son, then we transitioned to Hudson's Public House... They were also in our St. Patrick's Day rotation.
Anonymous. 09-28-2020, 04:55 PM I was at the Bricktown location Saturday without knowing they were closing. I agree it was underrated, crazy to hear that from our server considering the place was popping with all the football games going on.
jerrywall 09-28-2020, 05:15 PM Ah, that stinks. I really liked both of these locations. Pre-pandemic I was a regular at the one on Danforth. I really liked the feel and the menu at these places, and the fact they were smoke-free.
If they put in a Bricktown Brewery at that location I won't complain though. I like the Brewery as well, and the one on Kelly and Danforth was convenient. Once they changed that to an S&B Burger I haven't been back and the Old Chicago they moved into is across town and not worth the drive through Edmond. This is right around the corner for me.

jbkrems 10-05-2020, 05:23 PM I wonder what will happen to the existing S & B Burger Joint down the street?

You'd have to think they would close it as it's only 2 miles away.

Well, its interesting to me that the current S & B location also used to be a Bricktown Brewery, and that location closed and moved out to where Old Chicago formerly was --- its own building. I think the parent company is also realizing that have an S & B in a strip center might not be a good thing, or any restaurant for that matter. It might be a better fit for each restaurant to be in its own building instead of leasing a space in a strip center.

Yes, and they probably got a very good deal on this space, which is bigger, nicer, with a patio and probably came fully equipped.
MagzOK 10-08-2020, 09:14 AM We love S&B and frequent the one down the street from us at Kelly and Danforth. Will be so happy to get a patio to sit on!
tsou89 10-13-2020, 04:58 PM We were very disappointed that Hudson’s closed. One of the few places in the area to grab good bar food a beer and watch a game.
As far as S&B goes, I stopped By For a beer last week and was told they’d close the current location shortly prior to opening the new one.
IMO, S&B has a long way to go matching Hudson’s food quality. I feel they’ve really regressed over the last several years. I also wish they’d keep more of a sport bar feel. Hudson’s was set up nicely to watch games and would be easy to maintain.
Wishbone 10-14-2020, 04:53 PM Not an S&B fan at all. Whataburger makes a better burger and the loud music they play in their stores is insane.

Biggest thing that they have in the plus column is extensive sliders menu.
Why does Oklahoma insist on restaurant portions the size of a child's head?

Isn't it part of the state Constitution (or some other mandate) to not let obesity and diabetes levels fall below a certain percentage of the population?

The contents of the official state meal would support this theory...

tsou89 11-24-2020, 04:17 PM From what I can tell they kept the main bar, which is good news. Hopefully they put all the TVs back up. Hudson’s was a good place to watch a game!

TSOU,
Will they show games? The S&B places I have been to didn't have sports on their tvs.
C. T.
tsou89 11-28-2020, 01:21 PM CT, the last time I was in the Danforth/Kelley location they were showing sports on the TV behind the bar. I asked the bartender their intentions for the new location and he wasn’t sure what they would do. He did mention they were limited at that location on how many different channels they could show at the same time. He said he hoped they’d expand their TV/sports options but I doubt he has any say in it. The opportunity is certainly there at the new location. It all depends on if they’re looking to expand their attraction to the sports crowd.
Personally, if they don’t I don’t see this restaurant being around that long. Unless of course they make some significant improvements to the food which IMO has become quite ordinary.
tsou89 12-14-2020, 01:58 PM According to their website they open today (12/14). Haven’t driven that way yet today but will.

It figures, we have miserable weather and since my only transportation is a mobility scooter I won't be able to go there till we get some warmer days. I don't mind high 50's to low 60's but for the next ten days, I will have to wait.

tsou89 12-17-2020, 04:11 PM I made it to S&B Monday night for opening night. They did a nice job in their redecorating. They actually lightened up the place some which I like. Not too much change in the structure of the interior. They had a foosball table and a shuffle board table but the pool table is gone. They removed all the TV's around the bar but put a big one on the wall behind the bar and it was showing sports as were most of the others. Still a few showing the music videos. Not sure of their ability to show multiple sports at one time however.
As far as the food our meal was good and they had some new items on the menu. I went in the next day for a beer and there was starting to be a nice crowd around 3:00 for happy hour.
They did an extension of the patio but it was obviously too cold to check that out.
S&B is close to opening at 2088 E. 2nd, next to Neighborhood Jam.
They are having an invite-only event on Saturday, so I suspect they will open a couple of days after.
