Seems as if the council is still in support of Kelly from what I've seen/heard. While I agree everyone should be tried fairly. If found guilty, he will be forced to resign, in which I think is best for City of OKC.

He's had one free pass with his first conviction. This time, he's in complete denial, is questioning the officers field test, still claims a car ran him off the road with the evidence clearly proves other wise. It's time for him to resign and seek the long term treatment he needs.

“My judgment will come from my God,” Kelly said.

In the afterlife, that's true, but in this life, he'll have to face the district court judge and voters in his ward.

Apparently, his "judgment" came from Jack Daniels or Jim Beam.

The DO's Michael Kimball was blogging from City Council this morning and mentioned that Skip Kelly's preliminary hearing is scheduled for this Friday:

"@OKC_Beat 11:54 a.m. Completely unrelated, but the preliminary hearing for Skip Kelly's felony DUI charge is set for Friday. A colleague of mine will cover it."

Wow - Kelly was arrested seven months ago and we're just getting to a preliminary hearing?

Not a wow to me, not even a huh for that matter.

Yep, delays/continuances were asked for/received IIRC...not uncommon...plus, isn't Kelley an attorney? probably hoping the farther he is removed from the incident, the less it will matter to folks.

Political pull/favoritism???

I think you're reading way too much into a rather common process that is largely about case and time management.

Hearing postponed until March 15, 2013:
- 14 months after his arrest;
- Six weeks after the January 31 filing date;
- 10 days after the primary election date; and
- Two weeks before the general election.

I hope that he draws a solid opponent. Who are the likely people to challenge him?

Two weeks before the election? Would have been better for him to have gotten it done and out of the way (but IIRC, if he is convicted it might mean is automatic removal from office?). I would expect another continuances request or two well before then. Just to get him on the other side of the election if he decides to run again.

Larry, having a prelim before the general election wouldn't preclude him from the race, nor from winning, nor from serving.

The formal arraignment, if bound over for trial, would come after the prelim itself, and most likely after the general election anyhow under normal basic time frame. Then pre-trial motions come after that, and then, at some later date a trial, if one is held. All that presumes being bound over for trial at the prelim. hearing (and a bind over order may or may not happen depending on the evidence presented.)

Not likely in Ward 7

Sid, it's not worth much. I know prominent people in Deep Deuce that would be an excellent fit for council, and they want to run, but they won't touch Ward 7 seat with a 10 foot pole because of the politics to get elected in that district.

Too risky to explain on a message board if you can't read between the lines.

That's fine then. It just seems unusual to post something like that in a forum without any information to explain what it means without being an insider.

For what it's worth, Deep Deuce is now in Ward 7.

it always has been ..

Many apologies. I got the wrong impression from what someone told me recently. I thought some of the recent changes made included adding Deep Deuce into Ward 7. Sorry about that.

no worries .. there was some talk about moving deep deuce and bricktown into ward 6 ... but that talk never got very far ..

Rarely at a loss for words, frequently lobbing zingers hither and yon, but when it comes to ward 7 folks need to just read between the lines so you can shrink and slink from some topic you consider too risky.

wow ... it's a mystery.

Majority of DD residents: Affluent whites.
Majority of Ward 8 residents: Non-affluent blacks.

Did I win?

Just the facts

If by Ward 8, you actually mean Ward 7, then yes - I think you win.
