View Full Version : Dunkin Donuts
Debzkidz 01-09-2012, 04:40 PM Not terribly exciting, but I noticed a sign on the front of the old KFC location at 33rd and Broadway. It looks like Edmond's getting a Dunkin Donuts. My son was happy. He got hooked on them while living in DC last winter. I'm not a huge fan, but that's okay. It's all about the choices!:chef:
I have friends here in California that are absolutely obsessed with DD, no doubt because we don't have them out here. Every time they go back home, it's the first place they visit complete with Facebook posts/photos.
I didn't even notice they weren't on the west coast!
Thunder 01-09-2012, 05:19 PM DD is God. That place is truly the one to worship!!!
bluedogok 01-09-2012, 10:04 PM There have only been a few around but the three that are open (NW 36th & May, 39th & Meridian and Del City) have been open for many years. I'm sure there were some others that have closed bu tht only one that I know of was NW Expressway & 63rd, I think there was one in Edmond s well. They are all over Boston like Subway stores are everywhere else. There was an article in an Austin paper about how Dunkin was going into expansion mode a few years ago. They renovated the location across from my old office in Northwest Austin but don't really know if they opened any others.
progressiveboy 01-09-2012, 10:43 PM I really enjoy DD's coffee. It's smooth and mellow but does not have a bitter aftertaste!
oneforone 01-09-2012, 11:04 PM I know they renovated the NW 39th Street Store not to long ago. There used to be one on Classen and I think Del City had two at one time. I want to say there may have been one SW 59th back years ago.
If they are opening in Edmond they may open in a few more locations around the city. Unless I am mistaken, I think they are mostly a franchise operation which is probably why there are only a few in OKC.
bluedogok 01-09-2012, 11:06 PM Yes, most are franchises. Years ago I knew the daughter of the owner of the Del City location.
Thunder 01-09-2012, 11:12 PM I don't remember Del City having two... Just the only one there forever. I was around when Big Ed's was a nearby neighbor.
oneforone 01-10-2012, 02:44 AM If I remember right, it was located in the building where Jackson Hewitt is now on 29th and Vickie. I think it closed in the 90's.
Debzkidz 01-10-2012, 12:42 PM I remember us having them in Dallas back in the 60's. I don't know if they still have them or not. I know the one that was near my families home closed many, many years ago.
We've tried them several times when on the east coast. I didn't really care for them as a kid, but I thought maybe it would be different these many years later. Nope. Tasted just like I remembered. Guess I'm just more of a Krispy Kreme kind of girl!
sacolton 01-10-2012, 01:34 PM I remember DD's doughnut holes. Variety of flavors. Pure Heaven! Loved the chocolate and powdered sugar ones.
bluedogok 01-10-2012, 10:14 PM Growing up we rarely had doughnuts from Dunkin or Winchell's, Frankie's Big Doughnut at NW 19th & Portland was the place that we always went to.
Skyline 01-10-2012, 10:17 PM Is there a DD on the southside Okc?
I ask because a few people that live on the southside are crazy about DD's.
Debzkidz 01-10-2012, 10:40 PM I'd forgotten about Winchell's. When I was in high school, we were all addicted to their cinnamon rolls!

None in SW OKC, Moore or Norman.
Celebrator 01-11-2012, 11:00 PM I'm glad to hear this, because as much as I like the local donut shops, it seems that they all close at like, noon...sometimes I like to buy a donut in the PM, ya know?
kevinpate 01-12-2012, 04:33 AM None in SW OKC, Moore or Norman.
Yeah, the one in Norman, on W Lindsey, went buh-bye a long time back. Truth be told, dinna miss it going way. Was never much of a DD fan myself.

Frankie's was awesome... my parents drove all they from southside to get donuts from Frankie's.

It all depends on where you are talking about when you say Southside. The one in Del City on 15th and Sunnylane in only 15 minutes away if they are on the northside of 240 25 if they are on the southside of 240.
Jersey Boss 01-12-2012, 10:27 AM DD coffee is the best.
metro 01-17-2012, 03:01 PM Good news. Dunkin Donuts sadly, has the best and freshest donuts in OKC by far.
OklahomaNick 01-17-2012, 03:36 PM I am excited.
Their regular and iced coffees are excellent, and not as expensive as Starbucks.
DD is such an interesting company to me..
They are a company that was started on Donuts, but in most cities they generate more revenue on coffee.
In fact, they have actually attempted to drop the "donuts" from their company name.
They are literally on every city block in Boston, and I am glad to see them expanding here.
venture 01-17-2012, 03:54 PM Would love to see them back in Norman. They use to be over on Lindsey and was a very convenient stop going to and from campus.
AFwife04 02-11-2012, 08:33 AM Doing a happy dance right now! I grew up in CT where Dunkin Donuts are in abundance, much like Sonic here. I love them! Now we don't have to drive to Del City to get our coffee and donut fix.

Why would you drive to Del City when there are several closer to Edmond than that? NW 36th and May and NW 39th and Meridian come to mind.

DD is a very rare treat and we usually hit them up on the way to BX/Commissary at Tinker.
onthestrip 02-13-2012, 05:27 PM DD is going through a rapid expansion now that they went public last year. Look for many new stores in the future. And may I suggest the double chocolate donut. It might be the best donut out there IMO. But only eat one, its not the healthiest of all the donuts.

Maybe the same reason I would... work. I rarely make it to May or Meridian, but drive by Sunnylane 5 days a week.
bsmall 03-06-2012, 09:38 AM The Dunkin Donuts is now open.
I got a postcard in the mail for a free travel mug. Went there this morning. I'm not a big coffee or donut person, but I liked it well enough to go back on occasion.
