Well, I have wonderful news. On the 17th of this month (which is January), she will hit a beautiful milestone 90 (year of age). Betty is still active and is the remaining Golden Girl. Such a golden life for a golden lady living out her golden years.

Dang. I thought you were going to say that she was killed in an earthquake.
(The "wonderful" in your first sentence tipped me off to the fact my initial thought was inaccurate.)

Although not all may agree vis-a-vis Betty White.

Short version: Well said (well . . . typed anyways =)

I'm sorry, but your link goes to a main page for a website and I don't see any connection to Betty White.

Maybe she is a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll, and a fast=talkin', no-nonsense woman who sort of reminds you of your mom or mother in law or other aged Woman of Wisdom Transcending the Ages (without beads or feathers).

Much like the "Radio LinK" . . . =)

Fair enough, but I started watching Betty back in the 50's when she was on a show called "Life with Elizabeth" so I think I'm very familiar with her.

Most shows consisted of a series of short vignettes and she exhibited her obvious charm then as well as now.

Just look at how young she is in the non-captioned video. :-O

I think she is the world's most amazing woman and the most important than any other important people in history.

I had no idea, prior to this evening, that Betty White went to a Women's Weekend Retreat featuring Gracie Allen. =)

Thanks, ljbab!

I'm only sad that she signed to to do that silly and crude 'Hot In Cleveland." I have a hard time wrapping my head around it being the same Betty White of the 50's and 60's doing that trashy show.

Yup.... But when you are 90 things may appear different.

Well Gracie was probably my alltime favorite TV performer from my youth but Betty seemed to follow her style.

The only modern TV I've seen that has come close to this is Seinfeld.

I am in shock of this post and it should be deleted!!! None of the movies, shows, and commercials that Betty White has been in are trashy. Do not ever relate trashy to Betty White. She makes/made it all glorious. Come here, Mikey, come here... *slaps* ...now say you are sorry.

I would never call Betty trashy, but she is not opposed to some very risque comments, even at her age.

If you think Betty White is new to risque comedy, then you never saw her in "The Mary Tyler Moore" show back in the 70's. That was a classic sitcom about a TV newsroom in a station where other shows were also produced, and White played a Martha Stewart character named Sue Ann Nivens, an outrageous (for the era) man-chasing innuendo-baiting beast. Granted, innuendo in the 70's wasn't what it is now, and surely I could do with a lot less in most shows, but to suggest she's never done that variety of comedy before just isn't accurate. Heck, IIRC, her MTM character was ostensibly the hostess of a show named "The Happy Homemaker" .....

It was not meant to be as it was below my name and a part of my signature. I was just commenting on Betty's intro to the football game that can be seen here.

She looks amazing and fit considering she's turning 90. Betty actually look a whole lot younger, more like in her 70s, maybe 60s. I think she's in perfect health and all indications are pointing that she will easily reach 100 and still be in action. I'm hoping she will become the world's oldest female.

Thanks for the explanation. I hadn't seen that video before. She certainly beats Hank Williams, Jr.

True about the MTM show and her role of Sue Ann Nivens. The story goes that she was originally cast for the role of Blanche on the Golden Girls and Rue McClanahan was cast as Rose. Both actresses said they had done those roles before and wanted a change so they switched characters. Ms. White is just returning to her Sue Ann Niven days with her Hot in Cleveland role (which is must see TV for me..that and Big Bang Theory). Come to think of it, to a certain extent, Hot in Cleveland is an updated version of the Golden Girls....just skewed a bit younger but not by much...3 "mature" women and 1 even older (Valerie Bertinelli & Jane Leeves are in their early 50s, Wendie Malick is in her early 60s & Ms. White is 90). It is a bit out there but have to remember it is on cable and even if on the regular networks, the standards aren't the same as they were in the 50s/60s/70s etc. I would agree that TV Land isn't the best channel for it as Nick @ Note/TV Land should be more for the family friendly type shows.

I remember a few years back when Dick Van Dyke (the honorary chairman of Nick @ Nite) promised that parents would never have to worry about the programming there. Then they showed I Love Lucy, the Dick Van Dyke Show, Andy Griffith etc. Now they routinely run PG rated sitcoms like Roseanne, My Wife & Kids, That 70s Show, and the George Lopez Show. All funny shows but not always G rated material.

A couple of other classic legends happily still with us (pictured above), MTM and Carol Burnett. Sadly MTM has had more than her share of health issues. Apparently she is legally blind due to her diabetes (diagnosed when she was doing the MTM show back in the 70s) and just read that she had elective brain surgery about a year ago. Ms. Burnett is still active (she was in an episode of Glee not that long ago) playing the mother of Sue, the nasty cheerleading coach (brilliantly played by Jane Lynch)

Larry, I could be wrong, but I think MTM was diagnosed diabetic before her TV show years. Seems like I remember her already being active in diabetes-related causes by then...especially juvenile diabetes...

Great to see her still active!

I love Carol Burnett and hope she also keeps living for a long time. I saw a recent interview she did and it was remarkable how young she looked for her age. I don't care if it is due to plastic surgery or botox.

The old Carol Burnett show was absolutely classic. They ventured into what was (for the time) a bit of racier comedy toward the end of their run, but the way Tim Conway could break up Harvey Korman with just a glance was hilarious. Think Burnett was one of the last in the generation of variety shows with big production numbers, although I think the bent was much more toward the comedy side. Their "Gone With The Wind" parody is, to me, one of the funniest things ever on television.

True. The scene where Scarlett (Burnett) is wearing the dress she made from the drapes with the curtain rod still attached is classic. One of my favorites is in one of the Family sketches (later spun off as Mama's Family) and Tim was describing circus elephants that were joined at the trunk and one sneezed....

According to Ms. Burnett, Tim would go through rehearsals "by the page" and then when it came to the live taped performance he would ablib with the express purpose of breaking up his long time cohort, Mr. Korman

To get back to topic somewhat, picked up a I Love Lucy DVD that as a bonus feature has 6 episodes of Ms. White's Life with Elizabeth on it...
