View Full Version : Should Mike Gunder have taken the bait?
Laramie 12-04-2011, 08:00 PM Mike Gundy said prior to the OU-OSU game that he believed that LSU - ALABAMA were the two best teams in the nation. I do admire Coach Gundy's honesty.
1. Do you think that most coaches wouldn't have commented until after their final game.
2. Do you think that this hurt OSU chances of playing in the BCS National Championship game?
What are your comments?
My comment is that I loved his comment about the comment he had made before but still shouldn't have commented on it before the game even if he was commenting humbly, perhaps even correctly before his team went out and dismantled the horse (literally).

RadicalModerate 12-04-2011, 08:24 PM Yeah . . . But Assistant Coach Gunder(sen) . . .
Said Minnesota could beat OSU . . .
In the Snow.
"Dismantled the horse"....?
The way I heard the Commentator/Blatherers say it was:
"He ran into the endzone like a horse unbridled."
Check the tape.
I heard him say that RM and I couldn't help but chuckle.
Easy180 12-04-2011, 08:44 PM Wouldnt have mattered...The country is in love with the SEC
Another home game championship for LSU...Golf clap

I wouldn't be so sure this time. LSU can't afford to start out against Alabama as they did against Georgia.
mugofbeer 12-04-2011, 09:10 PM Also, historically, rematches generally go to the loser of the first game.
Personally, I think OSU would have won against LSU in a very exciting game. LSU - historically awesome defensive unit vs. OSU's fabulous offense. NC game will be a yawner while my prediction is OSU will slaughter Stanford.
Just the facts 12-05-2011, 05:30 AM I am boycotting the NC game this year. I didn't watch the first time they played either so why start now.
Thunder 12-05-2011, 06:36 AM I won't watch the game, either. I don't understand why voters did not cast in their votes properly. Now we have two teams from the same conference...something got to be done about this. I don't know if its too late or if an emergency meeting can be done to change it, because Alabama does not deserve it. Fact is just fact, OSU deserve that (the players...excluding that coach) and I hope the university files an appeal or something.
This will keep happening each year, so let it be...even though its painful...it will ultimately end the BCS system and implement the playoffs system, because more and more people will be riled up and angry when it start to affect their teams.
OU fan here, really hate OSU, but that action/decision is unlawful and disgusting.
Take a look at this quote...
"Anyone who doesn't win their conference has no business playing in the national championship game." Nick Saban, Alabama (12/8/03)
And he isn't declining the invite. What a coach he is....
kevinpate 12-05-2011, 11:27 AM I look at it this way, from a non-fanatic perspective.
Alabama, number two in the nation, losing only to LSU, number 1 in the nation
OSU, number three in the nation, losing to only Iowa State
It's just not that complicated for someone who isn't into every dot and tittle of the game, and for those who are and got to vote, the same result was reached.
Congrats to the Pokes for the conf. win, and luck to the Pokes and the Sooners in their post-season games.

True, but if I was a voter I would seriously consider whether the Iowa State game was a fluke due to extraordinary circumstances. I know logically it shouldn't make a difference, but you know......

Instead of focusing on the one loss, focus on the 11 wins. If Alabama played the same number of ranked opponents OSU did who knows if they go 11-1.
TaoMaas 12-05-2011, 12:28 PM Mike Gundy said prior to the OU-OSU game that he believed that LSU - ALABAMA were the two best teams in the nation.
Prior to the OU-OSU game, I believed that, too. But then, I also believed that OU was going to win on Saturday. If I was so wrong about one assumption, how certain can I be of the other?
rcjunkie 12-05-2011, 12:29 PM Would have, could have, should have, all OSU had to do was beat Iowa State and they play for their 1st National Championship, they didn't, so they ain't.
Thunder 12-05-2011, 01:12 PM Would have, could have, should have, all OSU had to do was beat Iowa State and they play for their 1st National Championship, they didn't, so they ain't.
Would have, could have, should have, all Alabama had to do was beat LSU and be legally eligible to play in the BCS, they didn't, but they will anyway.
Also, note the quote by the Alabama coach. What a hypocrite that guy is.
RadicalModerate 12-05-2011, 06:33 PM Gundy's off the cuff, honest, remarks probably damaged OSU's pre-game Championship chances.
His team's performance on the field more than made up for the gaffe.
(Even without the help of Mean Ol' Mister Weather)
I think that Thunder would agree that remarks in this Forum--negative ones regarding Coach Gundy's childish behavior--served to convert him into a modest, yet effective, SpokesSportsman for The Cowboys.
For that reason alone--and, of course the potential GloatFest that Gundy diplomatically chose to avoid--OSU should be playing LSU for the National Championship. All this proves is that the "official voters" are a bunch of inbred bozos.

Its posted a few times as comment on KOCO's Facebook page. I want that quote nationally known, so please repost it everywhere. Alabama don't deserve it anymore than OSU does. Can't believe the SEC coaches intentionally voted down OSU to keep Alabama up there. The greatest disappointment is the Alabama coach not declining the invite so that OSU can properly accept it.

That's because it is a hoax. He never said that.

Oh, well. Alabama still don't deserve it anyway. He didn't win the conference title and couldn't even get a touchdown while OSU can.
