Does anyone have good suggestions about places in NW OKC to buy really good traditional Thanksgiving pies like pumpkin and pecan? My 87 year old mother is cooking dinner this year like she always does. She's a great cook and has always done all of the baking herself but, due to her age, I'm wanting to make it a little easier on her and purchase pies for desert.

If you don't mind traveling, Don's Alley in Del City makes really good pies, especially the pecan (always eat one or two after each meal). They do special orders for the holidays, so you order some and pick up the day before the holiday closure. The pecan pies are chopped bits now (used to be halves), but you can request however the pecan you like it to be.

Grandy's have awesome rolls. The nearest one to you is on Lincoln in OKC (just south of the capitol). I believe they open on Thanksgiving Day. Place an order to pick up a sheet of rolls an hour prior the gathering, so it be nice and warm by the time its on the table.

Don's Alley makes many different pies. Mom loves their chocolate pie. They also make pumpkin pie and others.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't want to go that far for pies. There have to be some good places in NW OKC. And I not looking for rolls or other baked goods, just pies.

Way back when, TJ Tippins (between County Line and Council on NWHWY) was a great go-to for pies (better than Pioneer Pies, IMHO).

I think more in terms of a locally based bakery or business instead of a chain.

I can't think of any other than the one place I suggested, which I believe wouldn't hurt to drive the distance for one day of the year to help your mom. I've been trying to think of all the places available in that area, but still no luck. Maybe someone will hurry get on here and post in time. Have you tried driving around? Looking in the phone book? Call up family members and friends?

What about the places on Lake Hefner?

How about Cheesecake Factory near Penn Square Mall? I know they have variety of cheesecakes, but I'm sure they also got pies and cakes. You might consider them national retailer, but I consider them local small business, because I only know of that one and I think there is one in Tulsa. I don't think they are widespread?

LOL, Thunder. I'm not going to go out driving around to look for a pie and it's not that urgent. Also, I'm not going to buy a pie based on a phone book ad. I just thought someone who is familiar with places in NW OKC might have a good suggestion.

Don't throw rocks at me, but those "Chef Pierre" (or whatever) Peach and Cherry Pies they sell at Braum's are tough to beat.

I'm sure Ingrid's is great . . .
But I just found out that Chef Pierre is really Sara Lee.

And while everbody doesn't like something, nobody doesn't like Sara Lee.

The crust on these is even more authentic than many pies served in church basement events. Plus, all you have to do is bake it--fresh--at home, slip it into a decorative pie plate and just smile at the compliments you will get.

Sorry . . . You said pecan or pumpkin . . .

Flatter pie, same excellent crustification.

Great pies. Unfortunately, they're long gone. A great loss for the OKC area. Think they had some legal issues with a similarly-named chain restaurant in Kansas, and never overcame them.

What about La Baguatte? I'm not sure if they have any pies or not but their baked goods are always awesome.

Loved those out-of-town locations, so tried the one at Penn Square very soon after it opened. It was so bad I never even considered going back again.

Way back when, TJ Tippins (between County Line and Council on NWHWY) was a great go-to for pies (better than Pioneer Pies, IMHO).As SoonerDave said, the firm is long gone and even the building was demolished. There's a bank branch or credit union in that location now.

However, I've found Tippins French Silk chocolate pies at the Crest at Rockwell and Hefner from time to time (in the bakery, not the freezers), and they certainly seemed to be the identical recipe.

Probably belongs in the Nostalgia section but this thread brought memories of Mom making the German Chocolate Pie from the recipe she got from Field's restaurant in Pauls Valley

Pioneer Pies is the way to go but if you must stay on NW side, try Seigis Bakery downtown Bethany.

I checked out their website before I started this thread and it didn't mention pies at all. I've bought cakes there before though and was very pleased.

Cheesecake Factory is a national chain which originated in Detroit but really developed in LA. That's where I first visited one around thirty years ago. I think it was in the Marina Del Rey area. They have some tasty calorie drenched food but I'm prefering to keep all of my money local in this case.

I placed my order today at Ingrid's and they better be good. It's $32 for two pies. That may be a normal rate but I've never paid that much for a pie in my life.
