Anyone know what retailers are interested in the old borders location on the Expressway?

Would be a great place for a Container Store!

Pretty sure Container Store is already going in in the Penn Sq/Classen Curve area.

They're a web retailer based in Oklahoma, correct? What is your thinking - that they would use the building to house their Internet operation or actually open a retail store?

I've heard some other things...except they're still asking way too much in lease payments. Great location, but I've heard they're asking an astronomical amount that has turned a few places (that haven't been in Oklahoma) away until they're willing to negotiate reasonably. That's the latest I've heard.

They already have two retail locations, one in Norman and one on Memorial.

Oh man, a Cost Plus World Market would be incredible! When I lived in Portland I frequented these stores. Great imported goods at a decent cost. The old Borders would be a great spot for it.

From what I heard World Market isn't going to be opening new stores untill 2013. World Market would be a nice add to the metro.

An REI would be great for this location. It may take some of the traffic away from Academy on 63rd, but it would be a nice addition to OKC.

I'd love to see a Trader Joe's move in there.

Costco

Have you been to a costco lol? They are walmart or large size normally, (150,000 sq feet or so) not borders sized

Who ever has the deed to that building obviously wants big money to lease or purchase the building. Just simply because it has sat empty for so long. I would think that spot would be perfect for a restaurant or retail. I think it would be hilarious if OnCue bought it. The 7-11 up the street has to be one of the busiest stores in the city. The only time I have seen that place empty is in the wee hours of the morning.

IKEA or Costco couldn't fit there if they wanted to, and possibly REI even.

REI could definitely fit there based on the size of their Austin store. With regards to IKEA or Costco, no way jose.

Wouldn't Paper Source be better suited for Penn Square?

Although that location is in a high traffic area, what retailer's are likely to go into a location at which they are the only store? Seems like there would only be a select group of companies that can draw enough traffic on their own to stay alive.

I wrote on the 2nd of December and it still stands from what I hear:

"...they're still asking way too much in lease payments. Great location, but I've heard they're asking an astronomical amount that has turned a few places (that haven't been in Oklahoma) away until they're willing to negotiate reasonably. That's the latest I've heard. "

As per the above, we're talking places that would be rightly be called, "destination" locations.
