View Full Version : Earthquake? 12:52am 10/18/2011 mmonroe 10-18-2011, 12:54 AM Did anyone else feel it at this time? Thunder 10-18-2011, 01:00 AM Hmmmm... Where are you located? I felt a thud within my desk, but didn't even think twice about it. MDot 10-18-2011, 01:04 AM Maaaaann I thought we were done with these. Thunder 10-18-2011, 01:11 AM Maaaaann I thought we were done with these. No, its only going to be getting worse. There are movies and documentaries on Oklahoma's fault lines. And yes, there are hot magma flowing underneath Oklahoma. Its only a matter of time. TaoMaas 10-18-2011, 06:18 AM Did anyone else feel it at this time? We felt it big time. We thought for a while that a car had hit the house or something. lol SoonerBeerMan 10-18-2011, 08:10 AM No, its only going to be getting worse. There are movies and documentaries on Oklahoma's fault lines. And yes, there are hot magma flowing underneath Oklahoma. Its only a matter of time. What movies and documentaries?? And there's hot magma flowing under the entire Earth. If you mean its flowing closer to the surface in OK, I'll point you to Yellowstone, Hawaii, and the entire Pacific Rim where it stays closer to the Earth's surface. More drama from you...why do I respond?? Roadhawg 10-18-2011, 08:32 AM what movies and documentaries?? And there's hot magma flowing under the entire earth. I could say something really wrong with this one! Thunder 10-18-2011, 01:11 PM Thunder you crack me up! I could say something really wrong with this one! Can you explain? venture 10-18-2011, 01:30 PM We really need a face palm emoticon. Oh wait! There it is. Redskin 70 10-18-2011, 02:00 PM slept right through it............... PennyQuilts 10-18-2011, 05:30 PM Where was it? SkyWestOKC 10-18-2011, 06:34 PM I think I felt it at my house (104th and Penn). Shook the bed a little...unless it was something else. I do remember feeling something between when I went to bed and fell asleep (so between 1230-120a). Could well have been something else though. mmonroe 10-18-2011, 09:02 PM I'm at Reno and Air Depot and it shook the floor a bit soft buzz, the boom, then a long slow resonance... knew it had to be an earthquake, its the 4th one i've felt in MWC in the past 4 years. Thunder 10-18-2011, 09:12 PM I'm at Reno and Air Depot and it shook the floor a bit soft buzz, the boom, then a long slow resonance... knew it had to be an earthquake, its the 4th one i've felt in MWC in the past 4 years. You're most likely a loyal shopper at the nearby Crest. I wonder how often I sacked your groceries and if you ever tipped me? :-P bombermwc 10-18-2011, 09:26 PM I think I read somewhere earlier today that it was centered under the Braums on Reno in MWC between Midwest and Air Depot, just by the little Crest. For once it's nowhere near a well or any kind. woodyrr 10-19-2011, 06:20 AM If you have Google Earth, you can go to the USGS page where the earthquake data is. Under the "Maps" tab, you can download a .kml file which will put a star on the estimated epicenter. In the case of this 2.9 earthquake, the star is on SE 15th St between Nottoway Dr. and Westminster. Here is a Google Map with all of the recent Midwest City earthquake epicenters located. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6162/6259937119_9cbfd23077_z.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/39213183@N02/6259937119/) Recent Midwest City Earthquakes (http://www.flickr.com/photos/39213183@N02/6259937119/) by woodyrr (http://www.flickr.com/people/39213183@N02/), on Flickr Lauri101 10-21-2011, 03:47 AM Felt it - the strongest so far at the house. Moved my bed against the wall with a bang. Fun times! mmonroe 10-28-2011, 04:20 AM I think there was another this morning at 4:18AM small.. but still shook the house a little. woodyrr 10-28-2011, 06:28 AM The USGS rates this one at Magnitude 3.5 and the .kml file for Google Earth pinpoints the estimated epicenter at about 1/4 mile east of Douglas Blvd. just south of Jones - Spencer Rd. I was already awake and felt the ripples as I lay in bed. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Quakes/usb0006fgu.php mmonroe 10-29-2011, 09:44 AM See... i know i'm not crazy, lol, i'm 2 for 2! Lauri101 10-29-2011, 11:53 AM Ysterday (10/28) I thought it was the cat jumping up and down on bed (he does that when he wants me to feed him and I'm sleeping past my usual 3 AM rise time). I yelled at him to go to sleep and he woke up with an indignant look on his face. mmonroe 10-29-2011, 04:05 PM I was always curious if the earthquake were produced by by actual geological activity or if it's the way in which they remove natural grass from the ground. Thunder 10-29-2011, 07:41 PM I was always curious if the earthquake were produced by by actual geological activity or if it's the way in which they remove natural grass from the ground. :LolLolLol Why would anyone want to remove natural grass? Lauri101 10-30-2011, 02:49 AM :LolLolLol Why would anyone want to remove natural grass? To replace it with artificial turf? LOL Thunder 10-30-2011, 09:37 AM To replace it with artificial turf? LOL They have been doing that lately. :LolLolLol mmonroe 10-30-2011, 04:26 PM ***CORRECTION*** I meant to say Natural Gas, I'm sure you knew that too Thunder, but instead of giving a seriously reply, you decided to be childish and take it the other direction.. as usual. Oh by the way, how about my double use of "by" in the previous sentence. mmonroe 11-05-2011, 10:55 PM You had to feel that one... MDot 11-05-2011, 10:58 PM I know I did. dmoor82 11-05-2011, 11:00 PM Me too!I live at the Regency and the whole tower shook for about 10 seconds, and I about sharted my pants! Snowman 11-05-2011, 11:19 PM Any idea yet of the epicenter of this quake? 4 miles east of Sparks, OK. I wonder if it caused any damage? I sure felt it good in Bixby. A set of bunk beds was shaking real bad. Thunder 11-06-2011, 05:00 PM Reports are flowing in on replaced grass for turf has been spotted ripped all over multiple locations. Governor Mary Fallin commented early Sunday afternoon, "This is a very sad day for the taxpayers of Oklahoma dealing with the loss of new turf recently installed. I have declared State of Emergency and requested federal assistance to help replace the damaged turf. Rest assured we will continue to replace grass for turf to prevent wildfires this Winter onward." Many calls have been flowing into the emergency command center from residents and farmers panicking since the record-breaking M5.6 quake hit shortly after 10:50pm Saturday night. Hang in there, new replacement turf is on the way. Lauri101 11-06-2011, 05:16 PM I'm still in D.C., but my S.O. said the tremor continued for 30 full seconds. The cats started freaking out before the EQ - amazing how sensitive animals are to natural disturbances. Various websites are saying the increased activity is due to 1)Fracking methods used by energy companies to remove gas and other resources from ground and/or 2) pending rapture/God's wrath. What about fault lines? When you hear hoofbeats, it could be horses instead of zebras. Redskin 70 11-06-2011, 09:59 PM whats that old rock and roll song..............? oh yeah Shake Rattle and Roll......................... mcca7596 11-06-2011, 10:03 PM What about fault lines? Yeah, it's more likely due to the rapture than from fracking... kevinpate 11-07-2011, 03:39 PM oh, poo, let's stop dancing around and just get real about it. the rumblings and tremors and quakes will continue until OSU Cowboys are not ranked several spots higher than the OU Sooners. Then and only then will all the dead Sooner fans stop rolling over in their graves like off-balance blenders chopping ice.
