from their facebook page:

Hollie's Flatiron Steakhouse will open it's first location for Hal Smith Restaurant Group in early 2012. "Developing a great steakhouse for Moore Oklahoma has been a lot of fun and we look forward to growing along with the great pace the city of Moore has set", Ross Crain, Director of Operations. The concept will show what Oklahoma does best with a hint of spice and decor of the warm southwest.... Hollie's name has been revived from the great Hollie's Bar that once set the pace on South Western. Hollie's will feature great steaks seasoned and seared to perfection on a flatiron grill along with green chile', fresh fish, oven roasted chicken, and a homemade signature red chile' steak sauce. The bar will feature all of your favorite cocktails, along with some you haven't seen to accompany an ever changing wine list.

What's a flat iron steak?

Flat iron steak is one that is cooked on a flat iron grill instead of on a char grill. Char grilling gives the sear lines on the steak, flat iron sears the entire surface. Outback used to cook all of their steaks, and still cook most of them on the flat iron grill. Hal Smith used to be a proprietor at a local Outback Steakhouse before going on his own. That's why Toby Keith's food tastes similar. Menu is also very similar. This steakhouse will also taste pretty close, I guarantee it. Hal did change some seasonings, doesn't taste 100% like Outback, but it's pretty close. There's some fun trivia for you.

Actually, there is a difference between cooking a steak on a flat iron, and a "flatiron" steak, which is actually a cut of meat (e.g. its a different cut compared to say, a sirloin, a filet, a NY Strip, etc.). Clearly they will be using a flat iron grill (like Outback does), but I am not sure if they will be serving flatiron steaks (in terms of the cut of meat).

I have no idea what the restaurants name represents, but I suspect it has to do with the style of grill as mentioned above, but a flat iron steak is shaped like an iron for ironing clothes, similar to the Flat Iron District in New York, named after a building in the shape of an iron, and the Flat Iron building near St. Anthony's Hospital, shaped the same way.

Thanks. I had been watching for it on the Hal Smith Group site.

Ate here tonight a their "role play"/soft opening. It was great - large portions and very tasty. The restaurant itself is very nicely done, and I think that they really fill a void in the Moore restaurant market. They are going to kill it.

Apparently the Hollies at 150th and Penn has closed. I'm not surprised. It was always good but it seemed that Neighborhood Jam took all the attention.

edit: Just saw this was in Norman Tab. Move to appropriate area if needed

More competition up there... In Moore Hollie's is considered fine dining.

Yes Hollie's has closed at NW 150th & Penn as they re-tool for another Hal Smith concept: an Irish Pub.

Should be a formal announcement in the next couple of days.

Fixed. :)

An Irish pub concept would be better because there would be more separation between peak times. I suspect NJ's success kept Hollie's from having much of a lunch.

Ted's is in that same center and draws huge crowds of its own.

Hollie's was never busy whenever my wife and I went there; we maybe had to wait 15 or 20 minutes ONE time. Perhaps the Irish pub restaurant will be busier and make more money there.

Oh, we were planning on driving up there to try it, but I guess we will just save the gas... We also haven't tried NJ due to the drive, but we have great breakfast options that are closer.

How was Hollie's though? I am not entirely sure what the level was, but what would it be compared to?

I consider it Charleston's with a different name and interior decoration.

Yes, tons of cars. I've been by there where people are parking on the grass.

The Hollie's in Moore aspires to provide a Red Rock Canyon style experience, but just doesn't adjust prices for the actual environment. It's a nice place, yes, but it is strictly a once-in-a-while venue at most for us. The food and service just don't match the price, at least for us. And my wife and I have independently come to that conclusion each of the last two times we gave the place a visit. Mind you, it isn't *bad*, but for what you get/pay, I'd just as soon head all the way to Red Rock.

Thank you for the comparison, I had just seen that there was a location down there. We usually don't drive south of I-40 unless for a very good reason...

Hope it's not true, but Hollie's posted on Facebook they were closing either today or the 23rd, and re-opening as a Toby Keith's "I Love This Bar" in mid September. (2022) Hollie's is one of our favorite dining experiences.

Tonight's their last night, renovations start tomorrow (Monday).

We used to love Hollie's, then we had several bad experiences in a row with food quality and hadn't been back and stopped recommending it. Not sure if they ever got their issues worked out, but if not I can see why they are changing.

Is this really a change other than the name?

Both are owned by Hal Smith Group and while I'll admit I've only been to Hollie's twice and Toby's once.... The menus were pretty similar to me.

To a degree I'm not sure you are wrong, but Hollies always presented itself, at least IMO, as a nicer restaurant. More Charleston's than Chilis if you will.

Can't disagree with that... They never built a second Hollie's anywhere and this change makes more sense because Moore's claim to fame, other than tornados, is Toby Keith..... Might as well have a restaurant with his name there.

They serve the same type of food, but maybe you misunderstood, I was saying Charleston's is a nicer restaurant than Chili's.

The food quality went downhill the past few years so I am not surprised it closed so let’s see if Keith’s grill and bar will be any better

Pretty crappy thing to say IMO. You are wrong on both counts as there was a second Hollies location up north that didn’t last. Hollie’s was a tribute to the Hollies on southwestern back in the day but was very uninspired IMO. I believe some of the original Hollies owners were part of the ownership group for the location in Moore.

Ahhhhh... You are correct. I see there was one opened for a very brief time, looks like less than a year, on the north side.... Can't believe I missed that.

The northside Hollies on the NW corner of NW 150th & Penn didn't last long and then was changed over to Matty McMillen's which met a similar fate.

Now that space is split between Birdies and a medical clinic.

The other two Hal Smith concepts in that same complex - Neighborhood Jam and Ted's -- pack 'em in.

Yep. They closed for a while in 2021 due to lack of staff I was told. At one point the entire staff that was working there walked off the job. We were there in May and they got rid of El Phoenix mexican restaurant and added a Neon Pig BBQ. Toby Keith's was open then.

I didn't know that.

I went to McMillens a few years ago before it closed down on the northern side. It was on an NFL Sunday and that place was a party. You couldn't find a table. I was surprised to see it close in probably less than a year.

That location seemed cursed for the longest time. It's probably still empty.
