Haven't seen it posted anywhere, but anything new at the fair concessions this year?

I saw, but didn't try, a corn dog dipped in chocolate and covered in sprinkles. Another booth had "really mad turkey nads" which is exactly what it sounds like.

Those are the things that I saw that I hadn't noticed in past years.

Deep fried mashed potatoes were new to me this year. The bacon and cheddar variety was pretty decent.

Hard to imagine turkey fries haven't been a fair staple. The chocolate sprinkles corn dog though is new to me and, in a word, ick.

Isn't it hard to keep mashed potatoes on a stick?
Or do they have multi-pronged custom sticks?

They are in the form of a small, dense ball of mashed potato, with 4 or so on a wooden stick, breaded and fried. They hold up on the stick pretty well.

I don't know if I would like a chocolate covered corn dog, but chocolate covered bacon is awesome. I didn't happen to come across any at the fair this year, but I didn't venture down the lane on the west side of the fairgrounds and I think that's where I found it last year.

Okay . . . I can see that . . .
And, frankly, they actually don't sound that bad.
(Even though, for some reason, my tastes have drifted away from breaded/battered/fried stuff. Except for those green beans like at Fridays. =)

This week's Gazette has an entire Cover Story on this year's Fair Food.
