You're expecting nirvana when you buy food from Taco Bell?

Some of y'all need to adjust your expectations downward.

Nope, but I expect "truth in advertising" (not a slam against Taco Bell either, most everyone else does the same misleading to downright false stuff too)

I forgot to mention... Its a hit 'n miss. Some people put a lot of chicken, some people are chicken themselves by putting very little.

I agree. Since you had a great experience, when I didn't I asked the manager, and he said they were putting the correct (smaller) amount on them. So I guess I need to go to the one you frequent. LOL

It is the same for the one I go to. Sometime lots, sometime tiny, but I will always have a fin waiting for Venture in the sea.

Say what you will about Taco Bell . . .
At least they have proper Catsup Containers.

And don't serve "McRibs" (a.k.a. Los McPuercos Abominados de Ronaldo) . . .

No, they do not. They have many varieties of sauces, but never any ketchup.

Anyone know when the new taco bell is going to open? On mustang road and i40?

If there's one thing we don't have enough of around here it is new Taco Bells.
In fact, I haven't ever been in a new Taco Bell.
Not even one that just opened to the public.

I'm thinkin' they need to think about "newing" their menu rather than their locations.

I was out that way yesterday. It looked like they were putting the final touches on the building. I would think they are likely opening sometime during the next week or two. From what I saw from the road, it looked like they were installing the Drive Thru Menu and doing something the finishing work inside. It looks as if they ran past their deadline because most fast food outlets don't put up the road sign until they are in the final days of construction.

LOL as true as this is I've ate about 10 soft tacos from Taco Bell in the past week, the hot sauce actually makes a HUGE difference in taste. LOL

Can you still get a simple "'Beef' Burrito" at Taco Bell?
(You remember . . . Some seasoned "beef" . . . Some cheese . . . Some onion . . . wrapped in a tortilla.)

They used to cost about twice as much as the bean burritos (which were about sixty cents).

They were the ones that you ordered at the drive-thru with a conversation like this:
"I'll take two beef burritos and throw in some extra hot sauce."
"Two burritos."
"Two MEAT burritos."
"Did you say bean?"
"No . . . Beef . . . Two beef burritos. With meat. And hot sauce."
"That'll be a dollar twenty."
"It can't be a dollar twenty. It should be about twice that."
"You said you wanted two burritos."
"Yes. Two BEEF burritos. The ones with no beans. Meat instead."
"Oh. Okay let me fix that . . ."
Etc. . . . . . . . . ..

Can you still get a beef burrito at Taco Mayo?
Can you ask to substitute Miracle Whip?

I guess, in the final analysis, the soft taco supplanted the beef burrito . . .
An efficiency expert probably determined that The Fold is superior to The Roll.
In terms of time management . . .

Anyone have any idea why they tore it down?

They're not closing cause Jack in the Box is moving across the street, are they?

Hopefully, they are rebuilding it, and the whole area gets renovated, including the old Homeland building behind JITB. They should doze that place, and turn it into a plaza.

I don't know for sure, but my guess its one of those (very) old format stores that will likely get rebuilt into one of their newer formats.

I would imagine its a rebuild. No way they don't rebuild with OCCC down the street.

Jack in the Box opening across the street might have something to do with it. Force a little cash into it to keep it alive. While it's been closed for quite some time now, i've seen people working there the whole time. Although at this point i'm betting they are just converting the place rather than dozing it or anything. So i'm betting they are gutting the place and working from the inside, out.

bombermwc: drove by today and while you may have seen folks working inside while it was closed, I suspect that they were just removing salvageable equipment and the like as it has definitely been "dozed", down to the Okie red dirt...the building is completely and totally gone...only thing remaining was the surrounding parking lot and the road signage. Presume they will keep the pole structure and replace with newer sign closer to reopening but by leaving the old signage are letting folks know they are rebuilding there???

It's likely a rebuild. The night business alone was enough to keep the store open 24 hours if they wanted. I was a regular when I lived southside. The drive thru was always 8-10 cars deep. Jack in the Box's arrival likely spurred the rebuild. They will be back open by summer if the weather holds up..

Wow, that was fast. They spent quite a while not dozing and then BAM!

That happened with the Taco Bueno up just north of 63rd & May. Sat closed with no signs of activity for a month or so and then dozed down to the concrete slab (some floor tile was still attached) and red dirt... all in less than 48 hrs. It was intact on Monday and gone on Wednesday...No dumpsters containing building debris...

Yes indeed but the main reason for the teardown/rebuild was so they could put in a drive thru (without it being placed awkwardly)...the old building was practically touching the adjoining business where the drive-thru lane is normally...for many fast food places approx 50% of the business is in the drive-thru.

Yes, and the rebuild is a lot nicer ;-)

Larry OKC
02-07-2012, 05:19 PM
LOL...I have mixed feelings about that...the old one was in need of repair but the thing I liked about the original buildings (before Carl Jr took they over a few years ago) was they looked distinctly ethnic...they looked more like a home than a restaurant...had fireplaces...mexican antiques etc. ...they took away some of the Mexican aspects a few years ago when they did a minor remodel (modern in/outside light fixtures etc). Some of the remodels over the years looked more like a hospital cafeteria than a tex-mex place (the Carl Jr/Green Burritto influence again). Fortunately Carl Jr sold them off a couple of years ago when Carls was needing cash and TB was one of the few money making concepts they had at the time.

On the positive side the interior is VERY nicely done (but they took out the backlit menu boards and replaced them with poorly lit cheap paper ones...they would look great if still backlit). That and while the fixtures are Mexican looking the light shades look Italian?

On the down side, the exterior looks confused. looks like one of those Yum Brands places where it is a some combination of KFC/taco Bell/A&W/Long John Silvers...they either go with conflicting building types or generic. Anyway, to get back to taco Bueno exterior, parts of it look mexican but the entrance and drive thru "towers" look like they belong on an IHOP and the back of the building with the white clapboard siding looks like a LJS or Red Lobster.

plus there were items that I wanted from the old store that are in a landfill now.

It looks like they are finally doing something with the land here. There are several bulldozers moving fresh dirt around. Hopefully they build a shiny new Taco Hell so that land doesn't sit empty any longer.

Construction has started in earnest on the site now; ground work and plumbing are going in, so whatever delays were at hand appear to have been overcome. The Taco Bell sign remains, so I assume that's not changing...for now. :)

That's probably how all drive-thrus are going to look in the next 20-30 years. Even the Chik-Fil-A model with multiple lanes, climate controlled canopies, and an army of workers with tablets seems outdated in comparison to that. Anything to remove workers from the payroll and replace with kiosks.

So far basically any version of a mobile app a company has made has been way better than their kiosk version, plus it is pretty trivial to allow to save your favorite orders their so follow up uses are even easier than the first time.

It’s pretty cool how the kitchen is on the second floor and they lower your food to you with a lift.

Now if they could just work on their raison d'être. The quality of their product needs to return to pre PepsiCo days.
