View Full Version : Hobby Lobby HQ & Distribution Center
HOT ROD 02-06-2015, 01:19 AM Ya, it would be nice if they had a downtown presence of some sort. Maybe not a new corporate tower downtown but at least office space and perhaps anchor signage.
In fact, I wish this for all of OKC's national/international companies; have at least a downtown presence that is recognized as it raises the profile of the city and free/easy advertising for said companies particularly given the TV air time OKC enjoys.
UnFrSaKn 02-06-2015, 05:04 AM I agree. ^
ljbab728 02-07-2015, 12:17 AM That's not going to happen and I see no reason for them to even consider that.
Plutonic Panda 02-07-2015, 01:05 AM I agree with you. Not every company that is HQ'd in OKC should have a presence downtown. I actually think it better when there are various companies scattered around the city. Feels like a bigger city to me.

I understand your thoughts but I thinking more about what is beneficial for the company. There is nothing about being downtown that would be helpful for Hobby Lobby. Their campus is largely warehouse with offices. That wouldn't work downtown. Given the fact that they have kept all of their facilities in OKC instead of using satellite installations around the country shows that they are mainly interested in keeping everything consolidated in one area. They are also very close to the airport and I know for a fact that is something that is very important to them.

Bingo. Well said.
bchris02 02-07-2015, 05:27 PM Not everything has to be downtown and I don't think it would be a good fit for Hobby Lobby. There campus is working very well as is in the location that its in.
cxl144 05-05-2015, 09:43 PM On 12/15/2014 it appears Hobby Lobby acquired another 216.54 acres from the Commissioners of the Land Office of the State of Oklahoma. See real estate account # R141662015 on the county assessor a website. Contractors have been on the property this week removing the fence.
cxl144 06-22-2015, 05:43 PM Looks like Hobby Lobby has begun site work on the newly acquired parcel at the SW corner or MacArthur and SW 29th. Hearing rumors that they may be building ~ 4 million more sqft of warehouse space.

ChrisHayes 06-22-2015, 07:03 PM Are you sure they own the property at SW 29th and MacArthur? That's pretty far from their campus. I started working in the truck maintenance shop at Hobby Lobby last friday. I'll keep this thred updated if and when I hear anything

Yes, they own it now and it's actually contiguous to their ever-growing and massive campus.
I haven't seen any building permits for a new building yet, but you can be sure it is coming.
ChrisHayes 07-31-2016, 07:49 PM Any new buildings planned for the area that Hobby Lobby bought? I know they recently built those two warehouse type buildings that they lease out along 29th street. I work for Hobby Lobby and was leaving the campus and saw a couple trucks bringing in a road grader and a scraper implement. They took them back to where a number of other construction trucks were staging to the northwest of the Airport Road/MacArthur interchange. Looks like they're readying to do some fairly decent earth moving. I work for Hobby Lobby, but we don't really find out much about construction in advance.
OKCisOK4me 08-01-2016, 04:00 PM I work at Hobby Lobby as well and if they are expanding, like Chris pointed out, I haven't heard a peep. They're still filling their newest build Building 8 on SW 29th with employees. My warehouse (Building 2) has a 5am/7am shift but 8 only has 5am shift. I'd be surprised if they're building more warehouse. They may just be turning the land with scrapers just to prep it but who knows. I say that because while they're trying to add several stores per year, our hours would be drastically cut if they built out another 4 million sq ft.
ChrisHayes 10-27-2016, 07:07 PM Construction is occurring at the intersection of SH 152 and SW 44th Street on the north side of 44th. Construction crews have been working at this site for well over a month now and have completed a large concrete pad. Anyone know what's being built? I believe this is Hobby Lobby property.
OKCisOK4me 10-28-2016, 03:43 AM I had to think about where you're talking about, considering it's not really an intersection. It's more like Rockwell at SW 44th, just east of the 152 overpass. As far as HobLob is concerned, I believe they own everything north of 152. I did drive by this site and it's just too small of a pad to be associated with the way HobLob is building their future. I look for it to be something else.
Not sure exactly what you are referencing but I believe It's an 18,000 SF metal warehouse for Statewide Service Center, a manufacturer of pet food.
They already have a facility in the area; this is an addition.

Please tell me which number on the map below corresponds to your question:

OKCisOK4me 10-28-2016, 06:58 AM #4, Pete.
ChrisHayes 10-29-2016, 06:47 PM Sorry, for the delayed response, but yeah, its #4. They're building a short road back in there as well.
It's a 100,000 SF, $500K warehouse for Hobby Lobby. They do not own the land to the east, but do own most everything to the north (outlined in the second image):

ChrisHayes 10-31-2016, 06:05 PM Thanks, Pete! It seems that I remember hearing through the grapevine that a small warehouse was going to be built over there. So that 45 degree line by 29th and MacArthur shows the outline of Hobby Lobby property? If that's the case, it'll be interesting to see how they go about building a new warehouse. That point will get here eventually as there are hundreds more stores needing to be built for the master plan.
No, not the 45 degree line... The four lots to the north that are outlined. Still tons of room to grow and given their ambitious plans, they'll need it.
ChrisHayes 03-08-2017, 06:58 PM Dirt work has begun on what is rumored to be our (Hobby Lobby's) newest warehouse. This one is going to be north of Airport Road and west of MacArthur. The dirt work is extending to pretty close to MacArthur. I don't know how big it's going to be, but it might be built in phases. It's also rumored that there will eventually be another 4 more warehouses built as part of an overall master plan.
ChrisHayes 08-17-2017, 06:37 PM 14073 Walls going up at the newest Hobby Lobby warehouse. Another million square foot of storage space
OKCisOK4me 08-17-2017, 09:44 PM There was an article in the Oklahoman recently that spoke of 1 million sqft but technically that already exists and is in use. That is Building 8 on SW 29th St. This building--pictured above is known as Sendouts (which is where HL sends all of its holiday themed merchandise out...hence the name). Current Sendouts is 1 1/4 buildings--as it was explained to me. This new building will consolidate their operations.
ChrisHayes 08-18-2017, 04:40 AM Building 8 is 1.9 million square feet. This is an additional million square feet; taking us to 10 million.
Hobby Lobby is moving its Quail Springs area store one block to the south into the old Gordman's space.
The store will be roughly the same size but offer better visibility, according to an email exchange from their spokesman. The should make the move in fall 2018.

OkiePoke 01-05-2018, 09:08 AM That is excellent. Glad something is finally taking that space as it is highly visible.
Soonerman 01-05-2018, 09:07 PM Wasn't that a Target at one time??
Wasn't that a Target at one time??
Yes, I believe so... Before they moved to the huge store on Penn.

bombermwc 07-02-2018, 07:30 AM I believe they're turning dirt on the next round of warehouses too. It's incredible. Google maps aerial view is very out of date and doesn't shoe the scale of their construction in the last couple of years. I believe its' about double (at least) what you can see on those maps.

I think it was updated in January. At least it was for Google Earth (desktop program), maybe they haven’t updated the Google Maps part yet. It’s strange they update separately sometimes.

The latest warehouse to be built is off to the right side of this picture. The building itself is mostly complete and it's being filled with all of the racks, and other equipment. It looks like a small warehouse is going to be built within the bowels of the complex. The only way it'll be able to be seen is from Council. They're also doing dirt work leading away from the newest warehouse. I THINK that might be leading to where the next warehouse is going to be built or a new entrance/dispatch office for the trucks is going to be on MacArthur. A bit longer term, there's plans to expand the truck maintenance facility into a grassy area. The truck maintenance facility is unable to be seen from any of the roads and can only be seen from the air.
Dustin 07-02-2018, 07:28 PM That campus is insane... Wow.
ChrisHayes 07-02-2018, 08:18 PM The warehouse buildings beneath the drone that took this picture are Hobby Lobby's as well
jonny d 07-02-2018, 09:18 PM It is amazing! What an engine for OKC. Tulsa has 1 more Fortune 500 company HQ than OKC. But, if Loves and Hobby Lobby went public, they would easily be in the top 500. OKC is blessed with 2 growing private companies! I was just in Oregon, and the Oregonians I met LOVE Hobby Lobby! I hope it continues to grow!
bluedogok 07-04-2018, 03:20 PM My wife went to the relocated Lone Tree store today, it looks to be double the size of the old store at Quebec and County Line Rd. It was the largest Sports Authority store in the Denver area before they closed up. She said it was huge and much more furniture than the old location had.
This is a recent aerial of the area, the Hobby Lobby properties outlined in red and stretching from MacArthur to Council, comprising almost 4 square miles.
I-40 is at the top, I-44 at the right, and to the far left is County Line Rd.
This entire quadrant of OKC is a massive series of distribution centers, and the 2 big Amazon properties aren't even a part of this.

And no service from the railroads! Think about those double stack container trains passing thru OKC, but not stopping.

Seems they rather just pay the drayage from Ft Worth. The Q and Z trains already stop in OKC for a crew change, wouldn’t be hard to just do a simple set out at the same time. Wouldn’t add much time, but clearly no interest from local industries or the railroads on providing intermodal service in OKC.

Paycom could be there soon. Of course you could say the same for QT in Tulsa (private company that would likely be in the F500 if public).

QT will soon begin construction of its first store in the OKC market. Possibly the beginning of more stores to boost their present in the OKC market as they carefully choose choice locations.
Tulsa and OKC are blessed with companies with strategic long term growth plans

They had no choice, 38 years on the BNSF/ATSF, the RR gave UPS a choice of 1 million to keep the OKC ramp open, and UPS said no, and had to hire 40 new employees to fetch and deliver the trailers to Alliance, in Ft. Worth. I thought they could have managed the OKC ramp better, but only a switchman, was told I didn’t see the big picture. The crew change is at 23rd, the ramps are south 89th.

I believe both will be 3 story buildings on both sides of the big Finance and Technology building.

Do you have anymore info on that? I haven't heard about those buildings being built. There's plenty of land for them, though.

You can see dirt moving on the west side of the building for the first of the two. I know they’re supposed to be identical with some sort of courtyard in the back between buildings. I believe HR is one of the departments needing to expand over to one of these buildings. They’ll look similar to the newer Technology Services Building just east of there.
