lasomeday 08-02-2011, 12:02 PM 8PM - 2AM sounds great!
betts 08-02-2011, 12:12 PM Wow! Thanks for the info. Sounds great!
dankrutka 08-02-2011, 01:10 PM Awesome! They should stay open until 2:30 or 3am so they can catch the post bar crowd...
kevinpate 08-02-2011, 02:34 PM last friday of the month only, correct?
metro 08-02-2011, 02:42 PM I believe that is correct at first, but that it may change depending on success, at least that is my understanding
Spartan 08-02-2011, 02:48 PM I won't be there, but I will definitely be passing this on. That sounds cool. It would be really neat to have a forum meetup at something like this, one of these days.
Larry OKC 08-02-2011, 07:55 PM Some businesses will close at 2 am (or before) just so they avoid the after bar crowd...which can be drunk and everything that comes along with it. Sometimes the extra business just isn't worth it.

Unless you're looking for a profit. It's not like they can trash your restaurant since it's outside... I've eaten after the bars close a million times and have never encountered a problem that would make it worth forsaking a lot of money... Just my experience.
soonerguru 08-02-2011, 09:32 PM Does this board have an eyes rolling emoticon? I could put it to good use on this thread.
Reno and Walker 08-02-2011, 10:04 PM This is a lame idea.. I give it 2 months\
dankrutka 08-02-2011, 10:09 PM This lame idea has been extremely successful in most bigger cities across the entire country. Just saying.
betts 08-02-2011, 10:11 PM I think it's a great idea. I'm putting it on my calendar.
They do this a lot in Austin. This is a great idea.
soonerguru 08-02-2011, 10:32 PM By the way, my eyes rolling were not intended in the direction of the food idea, but some of the posters' idiotic comments on this thread.

If there was an eye rolling emoticon, its eyes already would have rolled out of its make-believe sockets from me using it so much..
If done right, I think this could be wildly successful.
If nothing else, I love that someone had the idea and is making the attempt.
ljbab728 08-03-2011, 12:12 AM This is definitely innovative for OKC and anything that can add to downtown nighttime streetlife is welcomed.

Some places do it gladly and others reluctantly...while the bean counters love it the staff that has to deal with it aren't quite as enthusiastic. And please don't misunderstand my post, I am not painting everyone that gets out of the bars as drunk, rowdy, trouble makers. Just that it only takes a few bad ones to ruin it for everyone. Sort of like the Bricktown curfew. Not all teenagers are that way.
I am also speaking from experience having worked in the food service industry (in a former lifetime) for 15+ years and as a customer. There is a marked difference in a place from before and after the bars close.
this is the closest I could find (that appear)

Why? Because it competes with your business, even though I doubt The Peacock is open that late on a Friday?

Yep. Portland has amazing food carts AND they have awesome restaurants. Both can thrive.
BBatesokc 08-03-2011, 10:23 AM Thumbs up from me. I really like the idea. I'd much rather go with a group to an outdoor food court with lots of choices than trying to figure out where one truck is that will satisfy my entire group. And, as stated by others, this concept has definitely worked in places like Austin.
rcjunkie 08-03-2011, 04:03 PM Awesome Idea, they have these type of food courts all over Seattle and they are very popular.
blangtang 08-26-2011, 01:16 AM what kind of food trucks will they have? is this still going to happen? might check it out...
BBatesokc 08-26-2011, 05:46 AM http://newsok.com/article/3598215
Did i miss it, or does the article not tell the public the times of the event?
kevinpate 08-26-2011, 07:28 AM Brian. Wasn't in body of main article. A highlight box on the page had this note, though in rather teeny print;
H&8th will be hosted from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. the last Friday of each month at 815 N Hudson. To learn more, follow H&8th on Twitter at @h_n_8th
A time was also mentioned somewhere earlier in the thread, and looking back, yeah, 8p-2a seems to be the consensus. My youngest comes in for a visit this weekend. If is isn't out with local friends, I may see if he wants a late night bite
BBatesokc 08-26-2011, 07:31 AM Thanks. Trying to convince the Mrs. to put off dinner a bit and meet up with friends and take in this event.
metro 08-26-2011, 08:42 AM Yes, it's 8pm-2am. I put the times and location in my original post. I hope everyone can make it. OKC needs something like this.
SkyWestOKC 08-26-2011, 08:50 AM So it is running tonight then? I might go.
BBatesokc 08-26-2011, 08:51 AM I knew it was in the posts here - my fear was that it wasn't clear in the Oklahoman. I see it is there, I just mentally ignore the little boxes etc. as on many sites they are just ads. I forget the Oklahoman often has links to additional information etc. in there boxes.
Rover 08-26-2011, 09:50 AM It is great that now in OKC we not only have cool things to do, but now we have CHOICES of cool things to do and places to go. Can't wait to participate in this.
Martin 08-26-2011, 09:57 AM hmmm... might have to check this out tonight. -M
BBatesokc 08-26-2011, 01:42 PM Anyone know if this would be considered a 'pet friendly' event? Some friends are considering walking with us to eat, but we'd like to take our leashed dogs if appropriate.
Ginkasa 08-26-2011, 01:46 PM I would totally go to this if I didn't have to work... Bummer.
dankrutka 08-26-2011, 06:07 PM People that go should take a few pics so we can see the set up and give your reviews. Hoping to be in town to make it next month.
kevinpate 08-26-2011, 07:45 PM I hope someone does offer up a review. Youngest lad wants momma's meatloaf tonight and well, hard to argue with his logic there.
BBatesokc 08-26-2011, 07:50 PM It's already over. Health department showed up and shut it all down. Hundreds were there and sent home hungry.
BBatesokc 08-26-2011, 07:51 PM Steve you showed up too late. The trucks left right before you got there.
mcca7596 08-26-2011, 07:57 PM Wtf?!!
BBatesokc 08-26-2011, 08:00 PM People started lining up at 7pm. It was on its way to being a big hit. I guess city employees has nothing better to do.
mcca7596 08-26-2011, 08:02 PM How is it different than what they already do across town?
Skyline 08-26-2011, 08:03 PM WOW!!!...........OKC you really are a Big League ______ !!!!
kevinpate 08-26-2011, 08:11 PM Odd. I presume each of these trucks operate daily in the community. Not sure why several in one place would create a need to send them all packing.
kevinpate 08-26-2011, 08:11 PM Maybe someone can get Shadid to come out against the idea so the rest of the city politicos can embrace it?
Larry OKC 08-26-2011, 08:15 PM Why would the health dept shut the whole thing down? Sounds like everyone involved is already licensed, permited etc. Is there some City ordinance that prohibits multiple truck operators in a single location? Do they have to have a special permit/permission from Council or something (like Arts Festival etc). What is the story here?
BBatesokc 08-26-2011, 08:36 PM Steve was arriving on scene as we were leaving, so I'm sure he will get the story. I heard something able no liquor license and not adequate electricity. I'm sure we will get the whole story soon.
soonerguru 08-26-2011, 09:17 PM It's already over. Health department showed up and shut it all down. Hundreds were there and sent home hungry.
You're kidding, right? Wait, this is totally unsurprising. What an effing joke this city and state are.
lasomeday 08-26-2011, 09:20 PM Wow! This stuff makes me want to move back to Portland!
BBatesokc 08-26-2011, 09:33 PM Here's what gets me - the city obviously knew about the event. So much so they planned this sting with at least a dozen health inspectors (and the ABLE guys had holstered weapons). This took planning and had no goal except to ruin a social event. Why in the heck didn't they think to call the event organizers in advance and ask if they could work with them to see that all laws were being followed? This really leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth and certainly discourages other business from wanting to participate in things like this in the future.
Martin 08-26-2011, 09:41 PM that's so sad! we swung by just before 8 but didn't stick around. it looked like everything was shaping up to be a good time. wow. -M
Larry OKC 08-26-2011, 09:50 PM Am curious, in the article in the paper, I didn't notice any mention of beer etc, so not sure where ABLE would come into play. Even if they were, why shut down the whole thing? Were Big Truck Tacos and the other established vendors trying to sell stuff without a license? Shut down the individual vendors as needed. There is definitely more to the story here. Hopefully we will find out soon....
BBatesokc 08-26-2011, 09:52 PM More and better details to come. But I heard a health department guy in a blue shirt tell some people that there was inadequate electricity to the food trucks.
Steve 08-26-2011, 09:58 PM Steve you showed up too late. The trucks left right before you got there.
Yep. Didn't think arriving at 8:30 p.m. would be that terrible, seeing as it started at 8 p.m. Not convinced I got the full story tonight. This event really warranted a response by more than two dozen city employees working overtime? Odd.
okcboy 08-26-2011, 10:00 PM Hopefully the city council will use this opportunity to consider special event liscensing reform. It is currently very complicated and hard to understand. Even for who
enforce it. Most organizers are also willing to abide if they just knew what to do.
dankrutka 08-26-2011, 10:13 PM Contact your city rep to complain. Ridiculous.
Steve 08-26-2011, 10:14 PM Guys, I have a story going in the paper, but it won't answer all your questions because I'm pretty sure I wasn't getting the full story myself tonight. Open Records Requests are being readied and my questions won't be fun for anybody. Why did they send a force of more than two dozen city and state agents to shut down three food trucks? What prompted this? And were these serious violations, or is this akin to the following scene in Ghostbusters?

Exactly. They are clearly a-holes.
