View Full Version : Patty Wagon
SoonerQueen 07-09-2011, 02:35 AM There is a new food truck that has opened up in the city. It's called the Patty Wagon and it is located at Grand Blvd and N May Avenue. The serve hamburgers, fries, and a dessert. From the reviews I have read, the food sounds really good. Here is a link to their webpage.

USG'60 07-10-2011, 01:53 PM VERY cleaver name. It is so "obvious" it is amazing that we hadn't seen it taken years ago.
JayhawkTransplant 07-10-2011, 03:50 PM AWESOME! This is right by the dog park...I will try to go Tuesday (the next time they are open) and post some pics and a review.
BillyOcean 07-21-2011, 03:41 PM had it today, pretty good burger.
SoonerQueen 08-17-2011, 07:40 PM The Pattywagon is temporarily closed. They are trying to find a new location. The building behind them rented out so they were forced to move. They were located at Grand Blvd and N May. Hope they find a new location soon and stay in this area.
Barry Luxton 08-17-2011, 09:33 PM Hey anyone know if this place is still open? :cool18:
onthestrip 08-17-2011, 11:47 PM I saw them tweet that they are having to move locations and it seemed they are closed for the moment
metro 08-18-2011, 06:47 PM Why do you have 2 threads for patty wagon?
Steve 08-18-2011, 10:13 PM Hey Soonerqueen, thanks so much for starting up a separate thread letting us know about Pattywagon shutting down. I probably wouldn't have known about this if it were attached to the original thread.
SoonerQueen 08-19-2011, 01:49 AM I'm sorry about the 2 threads. Sometimes I forget I've already started one. But one was old news and one is current news. The main thing I guess is getting the word out.
Larry OKC 08-20-2011, 10:46 PM Now i am confused, in this weeks gazette they had a blurb that it was "newly opened"...I would call before trying to find them to make sure 479-721-1327 (7601 N. May)
SoonerQueen 08-21-2011, 12:54 AM They haven't found a new location yet but they are working on it. I hope they find a new place soon.
Bostonfan 08-21-2011, 08:36 AM They will probably relocate to Frontier City since they're so good.
SoonerQueen 08-21-2011, 03:14 PM I doubt they even want to go anywhere like Frontier City. They didn't move by choice. They want to stay in the area that they were. Just a matter of finding a location.
metro 08-21-2011, 10:21 PM Why don't they just move to the food park DT?
Steve 08-21-2011, 11:24 PM Good question - that was my thought.
BillyOcean 08-22-2011, 08:49 AM sign at old location says they have moved north of britton on may.
OkieHornet 08-27-2011, 12:50 PM patty wagon is open today. on the west side of may between britton and hefner.
Skyline 08-27-2011, 12:58 PM I just heard on the police scanner that SWAT (aka ABLE), is on their way there with search warrants, going to shut it all down!
icemncmth 08-27-2011, 01:26 PM I just heard on the police scanner that SWAT (aka ABLE), is on their way there with search warrants, going to shut it all down!
Has anyone confirmed if the PW has been shut down or not?
Larry OKC 08-27-2011, 01:57 PM There supposedly was a "citywide" crackdown that shut down the Midtown event (where Paddy Wagon was possibly going to be at a future event).
SoonerQueen 08-27-2011, 05:18 PM Patty Wagon
We're reopen! Officer Pat says, "These buns don't lie!" Open until 2pm and 6-9pm at our new location on May between Britton and Hefner.
This is from their Facebook page.
icemncmth 08-27-2011, 08:38 PM Yep..they were open. Went there at 7 and picked up a couple of burgers. There were several people waiting on their orders.
I still can't decide if I like the sweet bun. ...
SoonerQueen 09-01-2011, 03:05 AM We finally made it to the Pattywagon Tuesday night and got burgers and fries. My cheeseburger was good and so were the fries, although the fries were a little saltier than i like. The bun was a little different but I kinda liked it. The meat was very good. We'll be going back again. It's fun trying new places.
Brett 09-17-2011, 05:25 AM Tried Pattywagon the other night. Fries were very salty. The burger was not bad. I like the bun which has a dense consistency and tastes like homemade. I have to complain about the cook who either had the griddle way too hot or just forgot about the meat and bun on the griddle because both the patty and the inside of the bun were burnt. The chocolate cake wasn't that great. I would eat there again but I would just order the burger.
YeahIKnow 04-13-2012, 04:34 PM Possibly moving to the old Whataburger location at NW 35th and May? The trailer has been parked in the parking lot for about 2 weeks. Even looks like somebody started painting the car port columns orange and black.
Larry OKC 04-16-2012, 09:46 AM Noticed it there this weekend as well
Bullbear 04-16-2012, 02:23 PM Noticed it there this weekend as well
I've noticed it there as well. would be a good location i think.. I miss Whataburger there.. and hate seeing the old building abandoned and whited out
warreng88 06-24-2012, 09:43 PM Patty Wagon just reopened at the old Whataburger on 35th and May. Had it last week. As good as when they had just the truck. They now accept debit/credit cards too.
Larry OKC 06-27-2012, 02:45 PM Went by there Monday after I got off work (just after 7 pm) and the place was deserted, locked up and no one home. No hours posted either or days of operation. Are they closed on Mondays, like Divine Swine further up on May? Are they only open for lunch maybe?
OSUPeterson 06-27-2012, 02:55 PM Patty Wagon has always been awful about holding consistent hours. Just follow him on twitter and hope you catch him.
Larry OKC 06-28-2012, 01:03 PM i dont do twitter...so guess I wont be going there unless they happen to be open when I happen to drive by, when I happen to be hungry...
Bullbear 07-02-2012, 10:57 AM I pass by it all the time its close to my house.. but I assumed they were still just working on it because it never appears to be open.
Larry OKC 07-02-2012, 12:56 PM Was going to go by there again today but remembered it was Monday again...LOL
Larry OKC 07-03-2012, 08:45 AM Stopped by Monday anyway on the way to someplace else and they were closed BUT they also have their hours now posted (closed Mondays)...thnk they are open until 8 pm weekdays and 10 pm on weekends? Anyway, will try to remember to go by there after work today
Larry OKC 07-04-2012, 08:33 PM Went by Tuesday and they were open!!! They weren't busy (but it was 3 in the afternoon). The staff was friendly and attentive. Food came out quick, hot & fresh. Burger was VERY good...great square bun, think it was a half pound of meat (or seemed like it anyway)...it was the "Beanie Burger" which was sort of a mashup between a burger and a Frito Chili Pie. Unique and tasty. Only downside was the AC wasn't working very well (it is in a decades old building) but wasn't too uncomfortable like Dickies BBQ. Also, tell them how you want the fries done. Mine were overcooked. But i will be back
They are offering a great deal through eataroundokc.com: $10 for $20 of food:

silvergrove 08-16-2012, 09:39 AM Went there the other day with a friend from out of town. Very good burgers, the buns are different than your typical burger restaurant but in a good way.
Had a blue cheese burger which was excellent. Keep it Local card works here too!
Roadhawg 08-16-2012, 10:02 AM I've never heard of this place and it's pretty close to work, I'll have to give them a try.
LakeEffect 08-16-2012, 10:21 AM I advise it. Very good, albeit slightly slow at lunch.
BBatesokc 08-16-2012, 10:24 AM I'll have to try them again. Went once with the usual group and we were not impressed. It was also dead at noon.
Maybe I'll go by on my next 'cheat day.'
Dubya61 06-17-2013, 11:48 AM Went to the Pattywagon this weekend (at 35th and May) on the recommendation of a good friend. I absolutely loved the hamburger, there. It didn't hurt that it was quality local ingredients, but that wasn't the reason I liked it so much. It was simply one of the best hamburgers I've had in a long time.
warreng88 06-19-2013, 10:24 AM I talked to Bryce this weekend at a friend's wedding and he said they are having their one year anniversary this Saturday from 1-6. They will have live music, prizes, a moon bounce and arts and crafts for the kids.
Larry OKC 06-20-2013, 01:24 PM Noticed that Pattywagon made the top 5 finalist in their category over at Readers Choice Awards 2013 (http://newsok.com/readerschoice)
I drive by there every day, but it always looks closed. Based on the posts here, I'm going to have to give it a go.
Dubya61 07-01-2013, 08:32 AM I was there, again this weekend, and was, again, saddened that I no longer want hamburgers anywhere else (except I still want to try Tuck's Onion Burgers).
Love this place.
warreng88 12-03-2015, 04:18 PM I have a good friend who is family friends with the owners family. She called me Monday to let me know that Bryce Musick, the founder and owner of Patty Wagon passed away this past weekend. He was 32 years old. He had been battling brain cancer for the past five years and had at least four surgeries that I knew of. I went to the restaurant today and it was still open. Not sure what they are going to do going forward.
Mr. Cotter 12-03-2015, 04:25 PM That's really sad news. I didn't know him outside of the restaurant, but Bryce seemed like a really nice guy who was usually happy to be making great food. I do hope someone decides to keep Patty Wagon open - it's a nice addition to the neighborhood.
turnpup 12-03-2015, 05:44 PM Sad, sad news. Not long ago, Bryce took the time to come and sit at our table, introduce himself and then just shoot the breeze with us. When our little girl said she was still hungry, Bryce got up and made her another burger. Very customer-centered. I sure hope his family can continue their success.
OSUMom 12-03-2015, 07:33 PM Oh, how sad. He was always so friendly. And the food there is great.
Dubya61 12-04-2015, 11:13 AM That is incredibly sad. I always enjoyed talking with him when he was there. He seemed to really enjoy the work and how it played out for him.
TheTravellers 12-04-2015, 04:12 PM That's really sad news. I didn't know him outside of the restaurant, but Bryce seemed like a really nice guy who was usually happy to be making great food. I do hope someone decides to keep Patty Wagon open - it's a nice addition to the neighborhood.
I believe he had someone (or multiple someones) take over for him a while (2 years?) ago, and the food wasn't the same as it was when he was there, so we stopped going. Sad to hear he lost his battle.
Mr. Cotter 12-04-2015, 04:36 PM He stopped managing the day to day about that long ago (the food rebounded, though - it's my second favorite sub $10 burger to Tucker's), but maintained his ownership of the restaurant. A few times the neighborhoods around there organized large group meals to help Bryce with his medical bills.
Nice article by Dave Cathey... They have a new owner:
http://newsok.com/the-patty-wagon-shares-unforgettable-burgers/article/5541493
Timshel 03-15-2017, 10:33 AM I never had the pleasure of going to Patty Wagon while Bryce Musick was alive but have been multiple times over the past few months and the new owner is keeping his legacy alive by making some great burgers and fries. I didn't know the back story until seeing that article - thanks for sharing.
TheTravellers 03-15-2017, 10:37 AM They're literally 1 block from our new house, which could be very dangerous, because their burgers (and fries) *are* very good, but their buns just don't do it for us - too sweet. If S&B or Irma's was in their location, we'd each weigh way more than we do, so it's kind of a blessing that we can't do their burgers more than about once or twice a year. Really need to try their ice cream because their flavors sound really good, but we're either on the way to somewhere else when we go, or we're just too full, need to make a special non-burger trip just for their ice cream/shakes...
I live nearby as well and look forward to giving it a try.
zefferoni 03-15-2017, 01:14 PM The buns are actually what caught my attention in the first place. They are really sweet compared to most burger buns, but I think it compliments the burger well. Definitely a matter of taste, though!
Bullbear 03-15-2017, 03:20 PM I love the buns and have wondered where they are baked. for me they have the best burger in town actually. Bryce was a top notch guy, I met him through eating at the Brick and mortar location more than we probably should have. he was always cheerful and friendly. I didn't know he had Brain cancer until he had to stop working and was told by staff. I am glad someone is keeping his dream alive and feeding some top notch burgers!
TheTravellers 04-25-2017, 07:43 PM Something interesting about them and KeepItLocalOK - they're not listed on keepitlocalok.com, but we went a week ago and they have the standard sign up on their door for them. They offer a 5% discount (I think the normal discount is 10% for almost every restaurant), and I know we've used our card there before, so kind of odd they're not on keepitlocalok.com, but take the card.
