For those who live or work around NW Expressway and MacArthur, let it be known that the food at Shawn's Sushi is very good.

I hope you'll give it a try--since this is a rare local one-off in the Chilibee's corridor, I'd really like to see it survive, and I'm concerned that the restaurant's modest appearance will fail to attract enough attention.

It's in the former Subway location across Expressway from Hideaway.

I have to admit it looks a little shady, so I would have probably written it off. Maybe now I will give it a shot.

The best sushi I have ever had was in a hole in the wall sushi place in a 1960s strip mall in Vancouver, WA. The sign just said SUSHI. It was cheap and the rolls were twice as big as the rolls in OKC.

I guess Tokyo could potentially have the same problem for those not familiar with it, but it would be a big mistake to discount it because of its exterior. It's my favorite sushi place in town. Based on that, I will give Shawn's a try and hope I don't regret it later that day!

Having been to Japan I can assure you that some of the best sushi comes from little hole-in-the-wall places. It is how it is.

And your point is? Does that mean you think a restaurant has to be in spotlessly clean Classen Curve to be acceptible? I promise you that when a building was built has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of food or cleanliness of any restaurant.

No, I regularly eat at Chuck House (the original), Nics, Coney Island and Jacks BBQ (before they remodeled and got new owners), and other hole in the walls. Often, they have the best non gourmet food.

No kidding...DUH The same rule for restaurants that works there works here DUH!!!!! Nobody driving by would place any credence in Nics on Penn but the food is far better than the location would suggest. Same goes for Leo's when it was open. DA.

I disagree. Nic's and Leo's had always intrigued me before I got the chance to try them. For me, the signage of this place is pretty off-putting. I don't think I would ever eat at a place called "Shawn's" that served sushi.
