Wait, what is this...rain? Coming from the northwest?

We stood in it, just to enjoy its loveliness. And laughed as our neighbors across the street had to unload groceries in it.

NWS expanded the Exceptional Drought to the east, which is a pathetic joke. No areas being downgraded to Extreme Drought despite the fact many of us received inches of rain this month.

NWS expanded the Exceptional Drought to the east, which is a pathetic joke. No areas being downgraded to Extreme Drought despite the fact many of us received inches of rain this month.

Those areas have been under exceptional drought for a few weeks to over a month now already...not much has really changed, even though the graphic says so. This isn't pathetic or a joke. It is going to take much more than an inch or two to lift the drought.

Here is the current ground moisture index at 10 inches below the surface. Still looks pretty dry.

If that isn't enough, I would recommend look at this: http://climate.ok.gov/index.php/drought/last_365_days/drought_wildfire

That is amount of precip we've received and how much we are from normal. You can see Central Oklahoma is still over 15 inches below normal. So no...that little rain the area has got recently is not going to break the drought. We need a long soaking rain for a few weeks in order to get out of there. Quick downpours aren't going to do anything as the water runs off and doesn't soak in.

Enhanced Web Page No Longer Available 8/22

Due to upcoming software and computer system changes, our enhanced web page

will no longer be available beginning Monday August 22nd.

Starting Monday, you should use weather.gov/norman to access our page. The

layout will be different, but the page will have basically the same content

as our current enhanced page. The new display will offer some improvements

over our current page, including the capability to display radar and

satellite loops within graphics, more flexibility with how the graphics are

organized, and the capability to display higher resolution images. We'll

also be able to take full advantage of our new workstations to produce and

share even higher quality graphical information.

why is this bad news?

I still think we need a tropical system and then a few stalled fronts (like we had last week) plus our normal fall rainfall, to pull out of the drought. The rain has been beneficial and is a good start though. Some areas got 4-6 inches just last week, twice the normal August amount. Tulsa I know had over 5 inches.

Areas to our south didn't get a lot of that rain and are in much worse shape.

We are getting rain in many areas of the state nearly every day. I'd say we are in Extreme drought...not Exceptional. There are plenty of greens out there. Did NWS lose their travel budget?

There the same images, you just navigate using the tabs instead of using the thumbnails. There's also a radar display that automatically animates and the images are crisper and sharper. I see the "improvements" as putting the IT infrastructure in place to use better graphics in the future.

It was nice that the old enhanced page had preview thumbnails on the right hand side. On the other hand, I often found that those thumbnails didn't display the right thing when you clicked on them.

They don't have any interesting graphics to produce right now lol.

Venture - can you do one of your outlooks, or is it too depressing?

He's currently in Las Vegas gambling to increase his weather gadgets fund. :-)

Click on the main graphic in the center and it will take you to a page where the image thumbnails will show on the right side. :-O

I gave it an official F- grade, but upon discovering the right side thumbnails still available, I give it a F+...maybe a D- but they need to make it all appearable on the front.

I don't think a September thread will be made, so I think we will continue on here.

How does everyone enjoy the latest weather? Did the early morning hours got you feeling ready for Spring? lol

I honestly can't recall in my entire lifetime a Labor Day like yesterday. Now, 18 years of that was spent in southern Oklahoma, which is hotter than hell pretty much through October most years, but still, 80 on Labor Day? I wish I had been well enough to go out and really enjoy it, but it was lovely opening the windows and letting the fresh smell in.

I may or may not have left windows open in my classrooms today to air out the "sweaty teenager" smell. The early morning hours do not get me ready for spring, they get me ready for fall. I can't wait for 45-55, misty, cloudy, slight-breezy days. The Irish/Scottish in me craves it.

This has officially been the weirdest summer ever, after one of the strangest winters that set records for snowfall and cold temperatures. Blazing hot and bone dry and then highs in the upper 70's/low 80's and low's in the upper 40's the first week of September. I saw where Tulsa set a new record low at 48 degrees on September 6. I just wonder what else nature is going to throw at us this year.....

BG918, if you must know...

If we are going to keep up with the trend, I'd say a record-breaking Blizzard on Halloween that should keep us frozen for Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas, and through the New Year. :-)

If you're going to have one record-breaking season, you might as well have them all in the same year.
