I'm thinking about tripping up north of the border to see the Tedeschi Trucks Band at the Cotillion. Never been there. Doors at 7 - show at 8, general admission only. Tips for getting a decent seat, like arrive to stand in line at 6 or some such? Don't go? If you do go, take a gun and a knife? Anything else I might want to know?

It'll be very much like going to a show at the Diamond Ballroom... it's out on the outskirts of west Wichita... honestly, your biggest concern will be with the other concert goers.
I, for example, went to see NWA and Easy-E at the Cotillion back in 1987... probably wasn't the best idea for 3 mostly white kids from rural Kansas... but the show was awesome... well, except for the gun/knife fight that occured right after the show in the parking lot.
But, again, kind of all depends on who is playing, so my guess is your experience will be quite a bit less high-risk than mine. lol

it's a pretty neat place - something different than the generic venues that have no character. the bandshell and circular layout is interesting. i saw wilco there 5 years ago and got there at around 5pm and got a spot on the rail. the front door/entrance is actually behind the stage area, so you have to walk around once you get inside. comparing it to the diamond is a pretty good comparison - free parking, outskirts of town, character...
i'd love to see tedeschi trucks - got their cd a few weeks ago and love it. saw derek trucks band at the bricktown events center a few years back, and have seen derek trucks play with the allmans and eric clapton and am blown away every time. hopefully tedeschi trucks will make it this way before the year's out.

Thanks for the info. I ordered their new CD today. I was hoping they would book somewhere local and haven't bought a ticket yet. But I think they are both great, should put on an awesome show together so I think it would be worth the trip.
