Sure sign that the financing market is finally loosening for high-rise projects, 25 buildings of 20+ floors are under construction or proposed for Los Angeles:

Including a 70-story tower that will be the tallest on the West Coast:

Northwestern Mutual is building a new downtown tower in Milwaukee:

Northwestern Mutual Tower And Commons Unveiled (http://www.northwesternmutual.com/news-room/122746)

Designed by Pickard Chilton. 32 floors (approx. 550 feet)

That size puts it in the ball park for what we're hearing about the Stage Center tower.

More info here:

Downtown Milwaukee Development | Northwestern Mutual (http://www.northwesternmutual.com/news-room/milwaukee-development.aspx)

They have some great high resolution images on the site, but they're huge. I've created a few medium size images to post here.

It's not hard to tell that it's a Pickard Chilton design. This is very cool for Milwaukee.

That is a lot better than the building that is on the site now but with sooo much vacant land on that corner it is too bad they just don't build on it and sell their old building.

Nashville is really popping right now. They also have a new tallest proposed.

It sounds like they had a 1,000ft'er proposed. A shame for them it didn't go through.

I was wondering if that was the tower he was talking about. That was proposed a number of years ago.

This thing was shot down several years ago. I believe the FAA would not approve the height at first, so it was then scaled back, then the economic bust did it in.

I have so many stories(even the Devon Tower) of buildings being scaled back but the someone else comes and says that is competent untrue.

I'm curious of that as well. Maybe I'm just missing something, but if a building is not immediately next to the runways, and obstructing the path of the planes during takeoff/landing, I don't see why the FAA would have an issue. It's not like the planes are flying low enough over DT that it would mess with their air currents.

Edit: I just googled it out of curiosity, and it says the FAA can restrict building heights if the building would block the view of a prominent landmark used for navigation. I have to admit, I don't get that. With the technology that these planes have today I can't imagine that the pilot is going to get lost and not be able to find the airport because of a couple tall buildings.

Not to mention the largest building in the city, especially by that large a margin, is an instant landmark from the air that could be used for navigation

He may be talking about the two new proposals for the original Signature Tower site. 750-ft is said to be the height of both proposals. The current tallest is 615-ft.

Proposal number one (all-residential):

Yes, I can totally see that tower in the second rendering on the Stage Center site.

Nice to see downtown Charlotte get new office tower, first one announced since the completion of Duke Energy Center in 2010:

Looks like that project was shelved in 2007 and now being brought back to life. That's a good sign.

Another good sign: Looks like they only have about a third of the space pre-leased.

It may finally be time to see some spec office towers start to rise again; been a long, long time.

It's only 25 stories so I wouldn't get too excited about it. Much better than our crappy Stage Center Tower though.

Agree. This is small potatoes compared to what Charlotte has seen over the past 15 years, but still better than anything proposed here. OKC needs more modern office towers like that. It would really help bring balance to the skyline. This city pretty much has Devon and everything else is 1970s or older.

Charlotte has some awesome skyscrapers and I don't think this one will really hold a candle to them. Nonetheless, it is a nice addition. Just wish this was going in our Stage Center site as opposed to what we have now ;)

Actually, 5 of the buildings in OKC were built in the '80's. Leadership Square (2), Oklahoma, Corporate and Continental Resources HQ (Mid America).

Those might have been built in the 80's but I'll bet all of them were designed in the 70's.

Wait. This was originally planned to be 32 stories and is just 25. What a disappointment. This always happens in Charlotte. Big plans that come in smaller. If it isn't at least 30 they shouldn't even do it.
