View Full Version : Emily Sutton...poof!
AAC2005 06-15-2011, 03:12 PM Don't know how to phrase this without sounding like a troll or a hater, neither of which is my intent:
The wife and I noticed that Mike Morgan magically appeared yesterday evening with the weather alert break-ins (thought he was on vacation, due to Emily's increased airtime).
Our question is: Why wouldn't KFOR let Emily run with the weather alerts? Aside from the obvious "experienced vs. not-so-experienced" answer, it seems like Ms. Sutton really got kicked to the curb as soon as the skies got cloudy and dark. How is she supposed to handle the pressure, if she doesn't get the pressure - although just watching her do the weather puts undue pressure on us, sometimes...
Also, a tip to Emily: The next time you say "It's a hot one" during the forecast, throw a little "like seven inches from the midday sun" behind it, too...I'm sure somebody besides me will get the reference! :tiphat:
jmarkross 06-15-2011, 03:18 PM I was skeptical about Emily when she first arrived--but she grew on me quickly and I think she is quite good. I DO think Mr. Morgan likes "face time" a whole hell of a lot. Maybe some compensation for being second-fiddle to Gary England for years--when they were both quite good anyway.
venture 06-15-2011, 03:39 PM Anytime severe weather is going to impact the Metro area, all stations toss it to their Chief. There have been a few cases where like on 9, Mike Armstrong has retain leading the coverage...but that may have to do with either Gary not being available or slowly grooming him as Gary's eventual replacement.
okcnuzguy 06-15-2011, 03:39 PM Emily was scheduled to be off after the 630pm newscast and Mike was scheduled to come in at that time..something planned earlier on--not just when the storms appeared..
Tydude 06-15-2011, 04:15 PM do you think Gary England going to retire and some one is going to replace him

It's not likely he will be doing it at 100 so that will happen sometime.
jn1780 06-15-2011, 10:55 PM I don't it has anything to do with her abilities as a meteorologist or on air personality. Its just that these storms had a higher risk of hail and wind so Morgan took over. Does anyone really think he wouldn't?
Was Emily on today? She may have went on her own vacation yesterday afternoon. She has a picture of a rainbow on her wall taken from the airport unless someone sent it to her. http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=1715062474&sk=wall

I noticed shes ramped up her sex appeal since she first started at KFOR. Must be taking fashion tips from Joleen Chaney. LOL

I suppose that depends on cryogenic advancements. I sometimes think Gary might outlive us all
Brett 06-16-2011, 04:35 AM Any time the weather gets bad you become an instant benchwarmer and the boss comes in and does your job for you. Who wouldn't want that? Sounds like a sweet job to me.
MartzMimic 06-16-2011, 05:14 AM Nobody sensationalizes weather like KFOR, and that means Mike Morgan - the first to use tornado as a verb - throwing it out to David Payne. I remember a recent system coming through where I was waiting to see what was going to happen before heading to a Thunder game. There was a storm cell in the Blaine-Kingfisher-Canadian County area, and from David Payne's description, an F-5 was about to drop from the sky any minute. I flipped back to Gary, who said, "If you have something to do, go do it. There might be a little wind, a little rain, but nothing serious..."
BBatesokc 06-16-2011, 06:46 AM I actually like Emily Sutton alot. She's not completely polished - which in my opinion is a good thing. She's also not some bimbo'd hottie pointing at a map.

Except for the Mother's Day storms. It was interesting that they did not feel the urge to come to the station and get their face time on Mother's Day...

And it turned out that KFOR was right on while KWTV could have potentially cost many lives. That tornado, for a moment, had a track toward downtown, but thankfully it was quite a way away and it shifted back northeast a bit.
