View Full Version : Mideke Building
Fantastic 06-04-2014, 12:12 AM Martin said the renovation should be completed by March 2015. He is hoping to fill the first floor with retail and restaurants.
“We believe that Main Street is coming alive,” Martin said. “We see the Holiday Inn Express opening across the street as a big move forward. We see Skinny Slims as a positive for the street. I believe we can make Main Street more of a retail corridor, so we are seeking out shops for the first floor and we want a restaurant for the corner space.”
Anytime I hear about "Bricktown Retail," my ears perk up. It's something we have been missing on an epic level. I still believe that the best spot for a retail corridor in Bricktown would be the Canal and street levels on the north end of the Canal. It seems like that might not ever happen, making Main Street the next best option. But even if North Canal retail were to come true, something like this would be a phenominal complement to such development. And who knows, perhaps this could all work the opposite of how my uneducated mind believes it should, and Main St retail will filter south.

No they did not build this city...
bchris02 06-04-2014, 07:29 AM There is a definite niche for places like CityWalk in this town. It's clear that most residents and property owners want them out of Bricktown but I hope they start popping up somewhere else.
shawnw 06-04-2014, 08:20 AM I'm not saying they did, but if they built this city, then maybe they can open up in core to shore and build that for a few years for us.

I feel like you're coming around. I agree with this statement. I'd say Campus Corner is a place that it would thrive. Especially, during school and football season.
catch22 06-04-2014, 08:30 AM If they did build this city, they could have at least used a picture of OKC. Is that Denver?

I do wonder where the future of the (non-country) club scene in OKC is going to be. The future of Bricktown will look a lot more like Deep Deuce or Midtown on steroids than the Bricktown most OKCitians grew up with. Maybe the Farmer's Market area? Capitol Hill?

That would be going straight to their demographic..
warreng88 07-07-2014, 03:37 PM Drove by Friday and noticed they were emptying a ton of bar stools out of Citywalk in to a big moving truck. They were coming out of the north side of the one story building, if that makes sense.

“When I stand in the building, and I picture every one of those bricks being gone on the east (the alley wall where windows will be added), it will be amazing,” Martin said. “It’s very necessary to open up a building that is this wide, to get that light into it.”
Martin hopes to fill the corner ground floor space, across from the new Holiday Inn Express, with a restaurant.
“We are looking for something that will be new to Bricktown, something that will complement the area – not another Mexican restaurant (Bricktown has four Mexican restaurants),” Martin said. “I think Kitchen No. 324 was an excellent addition to downtown when it opened in the Braniff Building. So we want something like that.”

This project is going to make a huge difference on Main Street in Bricktown.
Very curious to see who they get as a restaurant tenant.

I must have missed that they were going to have a restaurant, that is exciting.

Hmmm, change of plans i'm guessing? Either that or they got too optimistic in the rendering.
tpg4635 01-28-2015, 05:34 PM It looks as though the letters may be painted on the wall behind the glass? Or maybe they are going to frost the glass to complete the letter? Not sure if either of my guesses are right but seem to be rational haha.
Just the facts 03-13-2015, 02:01 PM Not saying they stopped work on this, but the last 3 times I walked passed here this week I haven't seen anyone working on it.

It sounds like the large corner space is now going to be office, because it only mentions a 3,000 SF restaurant. I know who they are talking to about that space, and there will probably be an announcement soon.

Tapstone pushes back plans to move into Bricktown
By: Molly M. Fleming The Journal Record July 10, 2015 0
OKLAHOMA CITY – Later this summer, an Oklahoma City-based energy company plans to make its move to Bricktown.
Developers Andy Burnett, Zach Martin and Jeff Johnson have spent the last year renovating the Mideke Building, 100 E. Main St., into Tapstone Energy’s headquarters, a $17 million project. The company was founded by former SandRidge Energy CEO Tom Ward and offices in Oklahoma Tower, 210 Park Ave.
It was previously announced that Tapstone would be settled into the building by May, but the plans have changed. Martin and Tapstone spokesman Greg Dewey said they expect the company to occupy the building later this summer.
Martin said the renovation is 80-percent complete.
“We’re at peak construction right now,” he said. “We hope to be wrapping up soon.”
The five-story building was constructed in 1919 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Mideke Supply Co. closed its Bricktown operation more than 30 years ago.
The building’s first floor measures 21,106 square feet. The remaining floors each measure 11,040 square feet. Tapstone will occupy three floors, with other entities related to Ward taking the remaining floors and the adjacent 55,096-square-foot warehouse building.
At Oklahoma Tower, Tapstone occupies 16,000 square feet, but Dewey said it could quickly fill more.
“We’re doubled up in offices,” Dewey said. “We’re putting offices in the hallways.”
The building’s east side will have a custom glass curtain wall and a grand staircase. Martin said those two parts of the project pushed the opening date back, but progress is moving quickly.
The five-story building’s first floor will have a 3,000-square-foot restaurant space. Martin said he and his partners will likely confirm the restaurateur soon.
Tapstone received $1.5 million in economic development incentives from Oklahoma City. The company projected in 2014 that it would add 150 new jobs in the next five years, with average salary starting at $146,133. As of April 2014, the company had 35 employees, and now boasts 63.
Other energy companies in the city have cut jobs this year. That included SandRidge laying off 132 employees in April, Lariat Services Inc. letting 265 people go, and Oklahoma City-based Enable Midstream Partners LP cutting its workforce by about 200 people.
“We take it one year at a time,” Dewey said.
He said the company is excited to make the move.
“We’re certainly looking forward to getting over there,” he said. “It’s going to be a beautiful headquarters. It’s going to be a great addition to Bricktown.”

Mr. Cotter 09-02-2015, 08:55 AM That's a home run. Excellent spot for their third location.
shawnw 09-02-2015, 09:17 AM Something like this is LONG overdue for Bricktown. Starbucks (and others) missed a significant gap they could have filled (bigger place to lounge with longer hours).
It will be a great complement to the hotels in the area and be open early (7AM) until late (midnight).
All About Cha also does a really nice job. Great fit for the area and further sign of Bricktown maturing.
shawnw 09-02-2015, 10:01 AM My daughter was just yesterday telling me how much time she spends at the Cha on Western studying and hanging out, so she will be deeply pleased...
PhiAlpha 09-02-2015, 10:28 AM This place should do great at that location, especially with ACM nearby.

Mike_M 09-08-2015, 10:23 AM This is such excellent news. I can't even count the number of times a group of us have been out for dinner and (not being big drinkers) really wished there was a coffee/dessert shop open late we could continue hanging out. Maybe someone could convince the owner to go even later (1 or 2am) in the summer.
Taken this morning. Tapstone is largely in; look closely and you can see long drapes on the east facade.
Also, they are already working on the All About Cha space.

I suspect that the drapes will open up. :)
Spartan 09-27-2015, 11:22 PM Well obviously but it's just weird. It's a furnishing so they can have it however they like it, but that makes it no less weird.
ljbab728 09-27-2015, 11:36 PM I guess it depends on the purpose for the rooms on that side of the building. I have an office with east facing windows. I don't have drapes but I do have shades. I keep the shades at an angle where I don't have any direct sun until it's late enough to open them fully.
Teo9969 09-28-2015, 02:32 PM I'm sure early in the morning, those drapes are much appreciated.
They could also be temporary until a more permanent fixture arrives. Seems custom blinds/shades/etc can take months to complete and make it to their final destination.
Urbanized 09-28-2015, 04:22 PM They might also open and close automatically? Yeah, that sun is probably pretty hard to bear in the mornings. It's one of the reasons I was surprised when they proposed glassing in that side. That said, it's probably pretty great in the afternoon and evening.
CS_Mike 09-28-2015, 10:16 PM I think it would have been nice if they had used smartglass or electric switchable glass, which would allow the windows to go from transparent to opaque with a flip of a switch.
ljbab728 09-28-2015, 10:57 PM I think it would have been nice if they had used smartglass or electric switchable glass, which would allow the windows to go from transparent to opaque with a flip of a switch.
I'm sure there are places where that works but I'm not sure an office building is the best use for that kind of glass. I don't think I would want it in my office. Also, I suspect drapes or blinds are a little less expensive.

there's probably some anxiety about maps. hiding the maps from competitors, landowners, etc. is a top concern of every oil and gas company.
