So excited. I heard they may have a community outreach party after they secure the site.
View Full Version : Walcourt Canoe 10-04-2017, 08:25 AM So excited. I heard they may have a community outreach party after they secure the site. Canoe 11-02-2017, 11:18 AM I have noticed some clean up work on the property. I am excited to see this project start. turnpup 11-02-2017, 01:04 PM Yes, it looked like they had cut down some trees on the west side of the property when we drove by a couple of days ago. Pete 11-02-2017, 01:29 PM Took these today. You can see there has been some cleanup and there is a scaffolding up on the north side. However, they have not even filed for their building permit yet, so I'm sure this just minor cleanup and inspection. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/walcourt110217a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/walcourt110217b.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/walcourt110217c.jpg drinner-okc 11-20-2017, 10:35 PM No pictures, but today there were 2 large roll-off dumpsters onsite, several windows have the wood removed. Daily Oklahoman reporting that Brent Swift sold it on Friday to a group led by Steve Morris. Pete 12-30-2017, 09:38 AM Hope this works out. Hard to imagine anyone doing as good a job as Brent Swift. http://newsok.com/walcourt-sells-again/article/5577681 Pete 03-09-2018, 07:49 AM BTW, when Brent Swift sold this to Steve Morris last December, it was a nice little flip. Swift paid $475K in September and sold 3 months later for $850K. HangryHippo 03-09-2018, 07:55 AM BTW, when Brent Swift sold this to Steve Morris last December, it was a nice little flip. Swift paid $475K in September and sold 3 months later for $850K. I'm hopeful he leverages that money to do more downtown. I love his project on Hudson. Pete 06-04-2018, 07:00 AM Since the sale, there has been no movement whatsoever: no plans filed, all work has stopped. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/walcourt060318b.jpg Ross MacLochness 06-04-2018, 09:48 AM I see people inside from time to time but not much has happened other than some cleaning. baralheia 06-04-2018, 05:41 PM I can't even begin to say how disappointed I am that, after the flurry of activity 6 months ago, all forward momentum on this project seems to be ground to a halt. I was super excited to see work start on bringing this beauty back to life and then.... nothing. Any chance on getting any kind of information from Steve Morris as to what, if anything, is being planned / worked on for this building? Pete 07-02-2018, 06:03 AM Nothing at all seems to be happening here and there have been no permit applications other than to change the zoning to office. With the for lease sign out front, I fear this may have turned into a nothing-before-we-find-tenants situation. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/walcourt063018a.jpg http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/walcourt063018b.jpg HangryHippo 07-02-2018, 07:32 AM Brent Swift ridding himself of this project was just terrible luck for those of us who want to see it saved. Pete 08-06-2018, 10:22 AM Still no movement here. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/walcourt080518.jpg Pete 08-11-2018, 10:47 AM Someone got inside and took a great video. To no surprise, the place is a complete disaster. CBpSPUBLzJA Rover 08-11-2018, 12:38 PM So, what do you think the new endgame on this is Pete? shawnw 08-11-2018, 12:54 PM as long as rainey williams doesn't buy it, we should avert disaster Urbanized 08-11-2018, 01:43 PM The wrong person gets inside and this is no longer a conversation. In my opinion this is the most imminently threatened significant historic structure in OKC right now and it is massively concerning that it remains relatively unsecured and in this condition with no apparent remedy underway. Pete 08-11-2018, 01:52 PM FWIW, the person who took that video was invited in by people doing some minor cleanup on the outside. Otherwise, there is a locked fence all around. I realized that doesn't provide complete protection but the building is also not sitting wide open. Having said all that, yes, something needs to happen here soon and the longer it doesn't, the more worried I become. Urbanized 08-11-2018, 01:59 PM ^^^^^^^^^ Good to know the fence is secured. I drive by it regularly and knew there was a fence but had (and still have) doubts that a fence/gate couldn’t be easily scaled or otherwise defeated by a determined miscreant. After that it looks completely unsecured. It’s worrisome. I was starting to get nervous about this building. Martin 11-01-2018, 10:21 AM i'm glad something is moving forward here but i have to say that i was more excited when the project was residential rather than office. drinner-okc 02-06-2019, 06:21 PM did they have a fire last night? this morning the road was blocked at 13th,and I could smell burnt wood (but we smell roasted coffee regularly..) Buffalo Bill 02-06-2019, 07:51 PM did they have a fire last night? this morning the road was blocked at 13th,and I could smell burnt wood (but we smell roasted coffee regularly..) Yes, there was a fire. http://www.news9.com/story/39915617/firefighters-battle-ne-okc-church-fire Pete 02-07-2019, 06:48 AM ^ This is exactly what happens when you let structures sit vacant for a long time: In the colder months, those looking for shelter get inside and set fires to keep warm. A 100-year old Victorian house just burned to the ground to the west of Scissortail Park (not owned by the Strawberry Fields group) and it was one of the very few structures in that area that was important to save. I have yet to see any building permits for restoring this building, as the new owner has promised in the Oklahoman at least twice. sgt. pepper 02-07-2019, 07:15 AM That place was supposed to be secured. they should have built a wall around it!. Jeepnokc 02-07-2019, 07:32 AM Does anyone know the extent of the damage? sgt. pepper 02-07-2019, 08:29 AM I don't know the extent of this recent fire, but I can tell you there has been at least one fire before this one. The interior of this building is in really bad shape, but the exterior is in good shape definitely worth saving. warreng88 03-09-2019, 02:29 PM Drove by today and noticed a new roof going on, at least in the middle section. At least some work has started. Pete 03-09-2019, 02:41 PM Funny you mention that because I noticed the same thing and took a photo: http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/walcourt030919a.jpg Plutonic Panda 03-09-2019, 04:31 PM Is this work due to the renovations or just repairs from the fire? Dob Hooligan 03-09-2019, 05:38 PM Is this work due to the renovations or just repairs from the fire? Looks like full roof decking. Like renovation work that would be a complete roof strip off and new wood deck before shingles are installed. Canoe 03-10-2019, 03:10 PM Funny you mention that because I noticed the same thing and took a photo: http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/walcourt030919a.jpg I still have hope that the old girl is going to make it. Pete 03-10-2019, 03:12 PM The buyer paid a bunch of money for it so I'm sure something will happen here eventually. The problem is with these long-abandoned buildings, it's usually just a matter of time before someone gets in, lights a fire to try and stay warm and the whole thing goes up in smoke. Just happened at an old Victorian home in the Strawberry Fields area; one of the few structures worth saving over there. David 03-10-2019, 03:40 PM The fact that they're doing this work gives me more hope than I had. warreng88 04-01-2019, 01:37 PM Aaaaaaaand just like that, work has stalled again. All they have is the paper cover on the roof now over the decking. And the paper itself is not completely secured. With the rain we go last week and what we are going to get later this week, if they don't get it decked, I am worried about what kind of lasting affect this will have on the rest of the structure. Pete 04-01-2019, 01:43 PM The inside is so destroyed I can't imagine it can get any worse. If and when they start redeveloping, I'm sure the entire insides will be gutted, more or less like the Marion. drinner-okc 07-23-2019, 08:51 PM Roof replacement has started. Part of the building has been re-decked, materials and machinery on-site! Does he have any new information on the project? Pete 07-26-2019, 03:51 PM As far as I know, they are still trying to find office tenants. drinner-okc 10-22-2019, 09:21 PM Lots of work has been going on last couple weeks they rebuilt the arches and brick on the South entrance (13th St) They've replaced the concrete castings on the roof ends, and shingle replacement started this week. It will have a diamond pattern very similar to original. This is going to be incredibly sharp when complete. http://www.okctalk.com/images/pete/walcourt121519b.jpg baralheia 12-18-2019, 01:56 PM This makes me incredibly happy to see! Between this and the Hotel Marion, this should serve to prove that almost no historic structure is beyond saving. The pictures look relatively the same. Do you know what the owner is planning on doing with this special building? Pete 02-24-2020, 07:10 AM They are working away, it's just a long, slow process.
