I came across this by accident tonight which got me to thinking that the great instrumentals are absolutely a thing of the past. You just don't hear them any more.
This is not original but was originally recorded in 1958.

Interesting that you brought this up. I overheard a conversation about this subject yesterday morning while having breakfast at a local restaurant. Several people had been listening to the contemporary, piped in crap the restaurant was playing over their music system when one of them with a loud voice asked everyone if they liked that style of music. Everyone agreed it wasn't what they liked, and several said they missed the old ballads and instrumentals.
The restaurant manager was asked if they would change to a different "station", but their reply was "No, because it was set by company policy."
