ddavidson8 08-12-2008, 03:32 PM One cat named Stinky. Nicknames include Stinker-Dinkers, Twinkers, Goofer-Doofers, Stinky-Dinky, Napper-Dapper and any others that I think up after a long night of drinking.

Does your cat know his name? Or does he have multiple personality disorder?
ddavidson8 08-13-2008, 12:43 AM Believe it or not he's pretty well adjusted.

Says the drunkard, in all seriousness. :)
westsidesooner 09-16-2008, 12:29 PM Currently we have two cats. Indy a 10year old female and Levi a 4 year old male. I use to have a bulldog named Toro (rip), and would love to get another one. I got (inherited?) a cat (Cocoa-puff)(also rip) when my father passed away a few years back and actually got to enjoy cats more than I thought I would. Hence Indy and Levi. Indys' nickname I can't mention online, and Levi we call the "lil monster" Indys nickname is because of her reaction to the "lil monster". I tried to post pics but either I'm stupid or the cold medicine I'm taking is affecting my pc skills. I'll try again later.
I have a question for any cat owners ( I mean servants) Has anyone ever heard of feline redirected aggression disorder? Levi has atacked me twice, the first time while sitting in a window sill and became over stimulted by other outside animals. The second time I was carrying him past a slider and he used me as a launch platform shredding my hand and chest. I looked like something from a horror movie after that. He's really a very good cat but can't seem to control his animal instincts. And I don't believe in de-clawing cats. Anyone know how to eliminate this reaction?
gmwise 09-16-2008, 12:42 PM I am not against owning pets.
And thank you for adopting pets from the shelter.
But more the 2 dogs is a bit much within the citylimits.
A friend of mine is next door to a woman, notice I didn't say lady, whose now divorce and seems to hate all men, which is fine with me.
But her dog-a black and white barker, nevers shuts up.
her other dogs 2 are quite and really friendly, and theres a smaller bait dog, that barks only when the previous mention dog does.Anyways to explain my bait dog comment, I have always owned Rotties.
But my friend has a basset and beagle dog, whose so sweet and adorable.
His name is Buddy.

One of our spayed females does the same thing. She is normally a very sweet girl who chortles conversationally to me as I'm walking around the house. But she does not like other cats and has pulled the same launching move off of me.
I'm not sure you can do anything to control the cat behavior, so I've learned to alter my actions. I will love on her, pet her or brush her, but I will not pick her up unless I scoop her up in a towel.
Cats do not learn lessons. Cat-loving humans adapt.
We have 13 - 9 feral. If anyone knows of a no-kill shelter that accepts feral cats from Midwest City, please send me a message!
I've got to do something with these cats, as 5 are tiny kittens (6 weeks old, max) with no mother - she was killed this morning. They can eat food, but they need to be somewhere else!
TaoMaas 09-16-2008, 05:32 PM 13 cats! Okay...now I don't feel so bad. lol We have two cats of our own, a Himalaya named Miss and a tabby named Mister. We've also inherited my mother-in-law's cat. He's a one-eyed black and white cat named Joe. We only have one dog. She's a Red Heeler named Hoochie Girl. For what it's worth, I didn't name any of these pets. With the exception of Joe, these were all my wife's pets before we got married.
PennyQuilts 09-16-2008, 05:56 PM I've posted about my girls, before, but I've got two samoyeds, Jezebel and Evelyn. Jezebel has melanoma, a very deadly cancer. She is currently in the fight of her life but doesn't know she is sick, thank goodness. She has had surgery, radiation therapy (her muzzle hair fell out) and is taking a new vaccine that has had good results for some dogs. A couple of years ago, the median time of survival from diagnosis was 5 months. With the vaccine, for the dogs it helps, it is up to 1.5 years. We don't know if she is one of the lucky ones or not, yet. So far so good.

I respectfully disagree. Levi knows what "no", "up", "down", "out", "dinner", "play" and "nht...nht" (clicking sound made with tongue, sorry I didn't know how to spell it) mean. Along with several other words. He knows if hes bad he has to go out to the garage, he knows if he stops in front of me he'll probably get tripped over, and he knows hes not supposed to bring me a roll of shredded toilet paper as an offering in the middle of the night. (which he still does) I think cats just have alot of independence and choose to either learn what suits them the best or amuse themselves watching me try to get them to do what I want. And yes cat loving humans adapt, like I have.... I now know not to approach him when hes excited.... that just means my cats are training me.

Sorry to hear about the mother cat, now I'm bummed. The only shelter I've dealt with is in Yukon nav.jpg (http://www.petsandpeople.com/) Thats where we got Indy. Its a great orginization and I'm sure its a no-kill shelter. Sorry I can't take in one of the kittens, but I'd probably need a shelter if I did. I'll ask around if anyone needs a pet. ...... Thanks Lauri and good luck

FYI, westsidesooner: feral cats are not pets. There may be hope for the kittens if they're able to be caught in a reasonable amount of time, but overall those cats will never be suitable for a home.
Lauri101 09-17-2008, 03:21 PM I respectfully disagree. ..SNIP.. Thanks Lauri and good luck
I should have used an emoticon with my "cats do not learn lessons..." comment.
My cats are all very intelligent and have learned a lot of lessons. When they want to, they understand simple word commands - all of the ones you named plus "treat" and "door". The most important lesson they've learned, of course, is how to manipulate us because we are suckers for the little fur balls!
I'm going to try and catch the babies on Friday. The MWC animal shelter said they could find a home for the tiny ones and they should be easier to domesticate. They look so lost without mom - she was still nursing. If I ever find out who killed Bitsy, I'm going to kick them in the stomach.:fighting3
westsidesooner 09-17-2008, 03:45 PM sweetdaisy they aren't mine, I was quoting someone else. My bad though becuse I didn't make that very clear in my post. I went back an edited it since you posted, and apologize for not reviewing my post. And your right, adult Feral cats, would never make a good pet. Theres a whole colony of them at Lake Overholser where we ride the bike trails. We call it Gato Island. Its really sad to see so many homelless and wild cats. Surprising that they form a colony too, being such independent animals.
There have been many little ones pass through my house since I last posted on this thread, and I ended up keeping a puppy from the last litter of Labradors, a black female I named Violet:

Also had a litter of two ruddy Abyssinian kittens -- a boy and a girl -- that ended up going to the same home about 2 months ago:

Thunder 09-17-2008, 10:11 PM They are so cute, Pete! I'm surprised you didn't keep them all.
Karried 09-17-2008, 10:27 PM I just can't handle these pictures.... the yellow flower???? omg.
I'm ready to go get another baby right this second! .. ahhgg.. they are sooo cute!!!
If you keep them all, you can't keep having them! :)
Seriously, I'm lucky in that all my pups and kittens are in high demand so I'm very picky about their new homes. These families treat all the babies like their own children for the most part and I always go to visit them in their new homes.
I just bred my yellow Lab so hopefully I'll have another beautiful litter of pups in early November.
Fortunately, I don't have room for any more critters so I can't even let myself think about keeping another one.
Lauri101 09-18-2008, 03:28 AM Pete - you are lucky - they are all so adorable!
jstanthrnme 09-18-2008, 02:59 PM those are beautiful animals Pete.
I have two cats.
An all black shorthair named Guiness (after the beer).
An all white longhaired named Dobby (after the Harry Potter character).
And I have a dalmation named Morgan (after Captain Morgan, she has a black patch over her right eye).
tburn 09-19-2008, 03:49 PM We adopted a stray/neglected girl from the streets last summer - black lab/pit mix with white toes & chest. named her Bonneville -- we call her bonne, or bon bon or brat.
She is 55 lbs and a bundle of muscle! She has really recharged our lives! We take her walking/running every single day (or he does when I go to the gym) to try and wear her out so she is more docile and manageable.
We completely agree that most of the trouble that dogs get into is because they are not exercized enough! The Premier EZ Walk Harness from Petsmart is a real life (ARM) saver when I am holding the leash!
We adopted my husbands elderly mothers cat a few years ago - Annie. she is white and grey tabby mix and is used to being the only cat so she is not very happy in our house, but she just needs to get over it.
I had to put down my 14 year old siamese mix cat last month - his name was Whitey. He was diabetic, on insulin shots 2x per day for the past 8 years.

Sorry I misread what you were saying. I realize now you were referring to the kittens (from Lauri's post), not the adults.

I find feral cat colonies fascinating...it's amazing how well they get along and how accepting they are of newcomers (strays, babies, etc.). And while it's kind of sad they have no "home" per se, those cats at Overholser are well taken care of (it's a managed feral colony, so people feed and observe their health & well-being) and they are generally content animals.
sweetdaisy 09-21-2008, 02:24 PM Seriously Pete, I'm not sure those puppies and kittens could be any cuter! Thank you so much for posting their pictures.
Violet is a darling!
