View Full Version : Johnnie's
Bill Robertson 01-30-2024, 12:06 PM I've been listening to live spots from the Yukon Johnnie's Restaurant and Bar which opens tomorrow. It's a little different than what I had heard before. It will have to regular Johnnie's menu, much of the Pauline's menu plus bar food like nachos, steak fingers, queso, fried pickles, etc. And a number of beers on tap. And pool tables. Sounds worth trying.
Martin 04-05-2024, 09:10 AM i just saw it out of the corner of my eye this past monday, so i don't have a ton of details... but the johnnie's at i-240 and walker seems to be re-opening with a new concept. they have a "now hiring" sign out front.
edit:
looks like they have a facebook page up:

Looks like it's closed. It's no longer listed on their website.
Yes. There was a social media post several days ago. I think it was in the restaurant closings thread.
Wishbone 04-11-2024, 06:14 AM I went to the soft opening yesterday at the I240 and Walker location. It was very good. Have some of Paulines menu items like fried chicken, meat loaf, and catfish on it. They have a huge bar with plenty of tv's and a pool table. Opens to the public today.

Johnnie’s Kitchen & Bar Concept Expands to South I-240, Bringing Retro Sports Bar Vibes to Oklahoma City
Community-driven Rebranding Leads to New Family-Friendly Venue with Enhanced Dining Experience
Oklahoma City, OK (April 18, 2024) – In celebration of its 40-year legacy at the South I-240 location, Johnnie’s Kitchen & Bar proudly announces the grand reopening of its Oklahoma City site. This milestone marks a renewed commitment to the community, introducing a refreshed, family-friendly sports bar environment that merges nostalgic charm with modern dining innovations.
Johnnie’s Charcoal Broiler, a name synonymous with quality and community spirit in Oklahoma, has revitalized its OKC site located at 421 W I-240 Service Road. Closed for over a year, the newly reopened restaurant now features a substantial bar, extensive seating, and family-friendly gaming areas, including pool tables and darts. The decision to renovate and reopen comes in direct response to significant customer demand for Johnnie’s unique blend of casual dining and community-focused entertainment.
“The outpouring of support from our loyal customers was the key motivator behind this ambitious project,” said Jana Haynes, co-owner of Johnnie’s Kitchen & Bar. “Our patrons wanted a place that wasn’t just about great food, but also about spending quality time with family and friends. We’ve listened and delivered a venue that honors that tradition.”
The revamped location now features a vintage sports theme, adorned with memorabilia, some sourced from local museums, creating a nostalgic yet refreshing dining atmosphere. The menu offers the beloved Johnnie’s favorites, enhanced by new bar-centric additions perfect for happy hour gatherings or family dinners.
In addition to classic features, the venue introduces "The Locker Room," a new private space available for reservation, ideal for parties, gatherings, or watching sporting events in an exclusive setting. This area adds a layer of privacy and exclusivity, enhancing the customer experience.
"Reopening the South I-240 location represents a significant step in our commitment to serving the Oklahoma City community," added Haynes. "We've taken the successful elements from our Yukon location, doubled the bar size, and tailored the environment to ensure it caters to families and sports fans alike. We're excited to reintroduce this enhanced concept to our South OKC patrons."
Johnnie’s Kitchen & Bar opened its doors Thursday, April 11 quickly garnering five-star reviews and reaffirming its position as a community favorite for more than half a century.
Martin 04-18-2024, 10:06 AM can confirm that they're open... i happened to drive by on tuesday around noon and based on the parking lot they were fairly busy.
Bill Robertson 08-31-2024, 05:56 PM We were near Britton & May this afternoon. We decided a hamburger and a drink sounded good. So we went in The Lounge At Johnnie's. I was very surprised. We had to go past a group right outside the door smoking. Which I can't stand. Then inside the place is DARK. If the Addams Family owned a bar it would be like this. Very un Johnnie's like.

Some friends went last weekend and said never again. They were very disappointed in food and service.

I don't see Rick often and try not to talk about Johnnie's when I do. But I might have to ask him what he's thinking with the Lounge.
Dob Hooligan 09-01-2024, 09:29 AM We go to the Johnnie’s Lounge on Britton once a week, or so. Clearly, we like it. Food is Johnnie’s. It is what it is. It isn’t Sports Bar loud and bright. But it isn’t a dungeon. I think it is a low key lounge for the Village and NH crowd. I see Rick there regularly.
I never smoked, but I know it is legal, and second hand smoke is so much less than 30 years ago. If they stand outside and fire one up, I have zero problem with that.
Having typed all that….Southside Johnnie’s it ain’t. I actually prefer the Southside menu, with the Pauline’s items added. I do not prefer the Southside bar area, I prefer the Northside Lounge atmosphere

And there might have been one or two lights on over the bar. And dimmed at that. I've seen the FB pictures that show it well lit and nice looking. It was nothing like that at 4:30ish on Saturday.

Went to the Southside Johnnie’s for the first time last week. While I liked the extra food options relative to the the Britton location, I did not like the noise from the bar or the fact that there is table service rather than ordering at the counter.
ManAboutTown 09-05-2024, 11:14 AM I love the Johnnie's Lounge on Britton. The drinks are cheap and the food is usually good, depending on how quickly it gets delivered to the bar area. They sometimes have live music and it may get a little loud, but that's fine with me. A couple of the regulars there are a little weird, but that's okay too.
bamarsha 09-05-2024, 11:48 AM Can't say I have been to any Johnnie's since they closed the location on NW Expressway and Rockwell (or so)... despite them reopening next door.
Wife got a chicken sandwich there and the chicken was raw... that was a wrap for Johnnie's.

they do seem to be decelerating quite a bit.
they're not doing much to win the younger demographic.
Dustin 11-13-2024, 05:35 PM The original location on Britton is still knocking it out of the park. I go probably twice a month. That johnnies sauce plus the charbroiled patties is a lethal combo. So good!

I agree the food is still really good quality, unfortunatley they do nothing that brings in the younger crowd. Closing locations is never good when you've been around that long.
Ginkasa 11-14-2024, 01:48 PM I love Johnnie's but it does seem like when the family and I go in we tend to be the youngest group there.

Agreed, but I also frequent the to-go because of the free stuff on the app!
