shane453 02-10-2011, 05:33 PM Didn't this happen over the summer? Or did it recently resell?
metro 02-10-2011, 05:46 PM It was shown as January

UnFrSaKn 02-10-2011, 05:55 PM I used to clean French's dental office a long time ago in Midwest City. Seemed like an interesting character.

So Steve, it appears to be new owners since the August sale.
Spartan 02-11-2011, 02:14 AM Why is there a quote from Jane Jenkins in every downtown real estate article? Obviously a really important lady behind the scenes... (sarcasm)
metro 02-11-2011, 08:24 AM I wonder what she has accomplished in the almost last 2 years.
BoulderSooner 02-11-2011, 08:31 AM I wonder what she has accomplished in the almost last 2 years.
her #1 job since she was hired has now just been accomplished .. it was getting the BID expanded and approved .. and with all of the businesses and different interests i'm sure that was no easy task
Spartan 02-11-2011, 08:49 AM I wonder what she has accomplished in the almost last 2 years.
Well, I don't mean to dog her, because she has a hard job. She worked miracles in Boulder and now she's come up against all the negative forces of a big city. She's done well compared to what can be realistically expected of her, here--I just think it puts her in a precarious position, or at the very least looks awkward, when she gets quoted in every article. Steve, is there someone at the Oke telling you this is a good idea? That sounds like an editor thing to me (who typically don't know squat, but like titles).
metro 02-11-2011, 12:06 PM No to mention Steve needs to stay on good terms with key DT players for stories.
Steve 02-11-2011, 02:50 PM Oh yeah, because I don't do anything to annoy folks. You clearly don't know me. Jane Jenkins is not quoted in every downtown real estate story, and she is one of many who has, at one point or another, been very upset with some of my coverage. But Jane is experienced in downtown development, and is a good person to get insight from, time to time.
metro 02-11-2011, 09:58 PM I know you better than most of the people on this forum, and have known you for many years. Maybe not as good as our mutual friend Doug, but come on, don't say you dont make good with DT players for stories, and yes I know you piss people off too, we all do, myself and Spartan included. I never said you didn't annoy or antagonize story subjects. But lets be honest, its clear you've been honest you don't exactly embrace new media or anonymity, despite the traditional press using anonymity for years.
Spartan 02-12-2011, 04:09 AM Haha, it's a lot of fun watching Steve do his thing, asking questions, ticking people off, just speakin the truth..
I think it can be said that Steve is pro-people, anti-establishment, in how he does his coverage of downtown. I'm not sure he'd agree with that though!
Steve 02-12-2011, 07:37 AM Metro, you definitely DON'T know me and you don't know how I do my job. I DO KNOW you are scraping very old data in creating these newest threads. Kingman: old. Salvation Army: old. FEMA: old. Now let's just call it a day. I get it - you don't respect me or like the work I do. That's cool. I think I'll be able to survive this crushing moment and still enjoy my weekend.
The sky is blue Metro. Moving on.
Patrick 02-12-2011, 07:42 AM Guys, guys, the latest news is in. Penn Square Mall just sold to Simon Property Group. This is a huge boost for the mall. Wait a minute. That happened 9 years ago. lol!

This could go on, but it's calling the kettle black with us. As far as old news, it may be, I just went through OKC Businesses January 2011 records, that as my source. And often, but not always, they beat the Oklahoman to the punch.
Steve 02-12-2011, 12:57 PM Metro, I'm convinced you rarely if ever read The Oklahoman. And I'm pretty much through with this discussion.

Steve, he definitely reads the Oak. He used to copy your stories verbatim, and post them here.

Actually, M, it's in the February 2011 issue of OKCBiz magazine. The article was a "best of 2010" story, in which the building was originally reported (in the magazine) last year.
Spartan 02-14-2011, 10:54 AM I just want the record to show that metro and I didn't even attack each other once in this thread..
CaseyCornett 02-14-2011, 11:06 AM Spartan: noted.
Steve 02-14-2011, 12:26 PM I just got a call from my friend at OKC Business. She's quite amused by all of this.
CaseyCornett 02-14-2011, 02:32 PM Tell her I said hi.
Steve 02-14-2011, 02:36 PM She will, of course, argue that a person on this board is absolutely correct in his observation that she routinely kicks my butt in getting downtown news.
Steve 02-14-2011, 02:51 PM Another correction my friend would like to point out (notice she's too much of a coward to create an OKC Talk account like Bailey and I have): the magazine's name is OKCBiz, no longer OKC Business. Sadly, it probably will never be as good as it was when it was Duroucher's OKC Business. (This last line is a dig intended to get my friend to man up and start an account)

You have been called to the yard, Pamela.
Steve 02-14-2011, 07:53 PM Nope. Not Pamela I'm taking a cheap shot at. It's Heidi. So far, she's not taking the bait, though she's reading this and is alternately amused and peeved at me. We've been friends for a long time ... she'll survive.
jbrown84 02-16-2011, 04:07 PM Good lord.
Steve 02-16-2011, 05:45 PM jbrown, all of this discussion regarding The Oklahoman, Journal Record and OKCBiz was just joking among friends and making light of comments made earlier in this thread by a frequent poster. Sorry if I offended.
Yucatan Taco Stand Tequila Bar and Grill going to this building.
Application before the Bricktown Design Review Committee to add patio and signs, I'm assuming on the canal.

catch22 08-03-2012, 12:06 PM Is this to replace Bourbon Street (which I have heard is not doing so well financially)? Or will this be just east of Bourbon Street in the same building?
Since the application is for a new patio, I believe it's in addition to Bourbon Street, not in place of.
BoulderSooner 08-03-2012, 12:09 PM this is on the main level the old othellos space .. this has been in the works for well over a year
HangryHippo 08-03-2012, 01:18 PM Always nice to see new business coming to the area!

On the corner? Where Banana Joe's used to be?
Urbanized 08-03-2012, 06:00 PM The space has been - among other things - Lotus, J. Frank's/Daddy Hinkle's, Othello's, and years ago Banana Joe's. It is directly ABOVE Bourbon Street and across from Peachwave. I saw them moving out old kitchen equipment last week in preparation for the new construction.
Spartan 08-03-2012, 09:39 PM There are 7 words in the name of this new eatery. Siete.

Geez, Bricktown lost its appeal to me long ago. That many since Banana Joe's? lol.
soonerguru 08-05-2012, 10:17 PM This place looks like fun. Hopefully the food is good.
$200,000 building permit today to renovate the office space in this building.
Anyone know what this is about?
Lazio85 09-11-2013, 02:22 PM It could be Black Oak Investments, especially if they didn't find a new tenant after Johnson & Associates (civil engineering firm) and Advanced Academics (education prep) moved out in 2010. I am referring to the article, "Kingman Building in Bricktown sells for $6.4 million | News OK (http://newsok.com/kingman-building-in-bricktown-sells-for-6.4-million/article/3481864)" by Steve Lackmeyer.
OKCisOK4me 09-12-2013, 01:49 AM Can't wait to hear stories about the ghosts not wanting renovations to be completed!

I have a friend on Facebook that just posted pictures of his new living quarters (inside this building). Pretty nice setup!
Following suit of several other Bricktown buildings, the Kingman is going to get some clean, fresh signage:

Mr. Cotter 12-05-2017, 04:06 PM Boo! Save the "old paint."
Boo! Save the "old paint."
Yeah, will be interesting to see what the design committee says about this.
Martin 12-05-2017, 05:14 PM is yucatan taco stand gone or are they just removing the sign? wouldn't surprise me given the close proximity to fuzzy's.
The new signage received unanimous approval from Bricktown design review.
KingOfTheNorth 12-16-2017, 01:09 PM Very happy with some sprucing up on this building. Personally I like some of the worn looks on the buildings in Bricktown, but most of these new designs have been pretty good at not overdoing their updates. I'm assuming that Yacatan is still there, right? I've always enjoyed watching Thunder games there.
